The last paragraph of the book says it all:
"..... I'd had a front row seat on national politics for forty years. It was exhilarating, exhausting, satisfying, tense, frustrating, and fun---my ticket to see, hear, and write about winners and losers, flaws, and failings, in the imperfect American way of nominating and electing presidents."
Mears had a seat very few of us will ever have, riding the bus, being in the room, speaking directly to candidates, both on and off mic. A great read for those interested in the nominating and election process in America.
