With his alter ego, The Machine, believed to be dead, Ryne McIntyre finishes his classes at the Boston Police Academy to become a member of the Boston Police Department as the city of Boston prepares for an election. This election is forced to be moved up when two separate tragic events take the lives of the incumbent mayor and his replacement. Ryne convinces his best friend, Christopher Richman, to run in the election. A mysterious man calling himself The Magistrate, begins a write-in campaign and airs political commercials attacking the other candidates. When a couple candidates are found dead, Christopher is afraid for his life asking Ryne to bring The Machine back from the dead. Investigating the deaths of the candidates, Ryne discovers a team of female assassins called The B-Team might be the ones responsible. He must put his personal feelings aside when he discovers one of these assassins is a woman from his past. Facing a justice system that is not allowing him to perform a proper investigation, The Machine has to return and adjudicate a case the city of Boston isn't willing to do.
