Attacked by a demon as she leaves work, Victoria is thrust into a world she doesn't understand. Demons are real and they want her. Salvation comes in the form of a half angel, half human. One of the nephilim. An immortal warrior who strives to keep demons from causing harm. Drawn to him right from the beginning, Victoria feels the connection between them but is unsure what it means.
Téo never thought he would find his mate, the one woman in the world meant for him. The one who could restore balance to him. Stumbling across her in the midst of a demon attack, he quickly realizes that she's his mate, but while protecting her they get separated. Now she's out there with demons searching for her. Can he find her again before the demons do? Can he keep her safe while convincing her to mate with him, to tie her life to his for all eternity?
Téo is the prequel to the Host series. It is set some thirty years before the first book and no previous knowledge of the series is required. There are no cliffhangers. Téo can be read at any point in the series. Please This is a novella, not a full-length book.
Adara Anderson has always wanted to be a writer but took quite some time to get around to it. She has a somewhat unhealthy fascination with things that go bump in the night. Not fear. More of an “ooh, I want my own werewolf” kind of thing. Well who wouldn't? It's like having a hot boyfriend AND a really self-reliant dog all rolled into one. She lives in Scotland where there appears to be a complete lack of vampires and werewolves. Bah.
Adara loves being creative. When not writing, she can often be found drawing, painting, and making figures out of clay. Unless she's reading. There is never enough time for all the books that need to be read. Adara also writes lighter, fluffier books with a dash of humour under the name Ariana McGregor.
I can't say that I really enjoyed this book. It wasn't horrible and many people will like it but it wasn't for me.
Teo is half-angel and half-human. I loved his character such as he was. He didn't have a lot of substance. He had a ton of potential, though. He lacked feeling and depth no matter what the words said. I couldn't get close to him.
Victoria is a lonely, friendless school teacher who is being hunted by demons. Her first encounter really creeped me out. Teo comes to her rescue and knows she is his mate. He hardly has to raise a finger to get her to accept this but that's beside the point. She didn't appeal to me because I thought she was a bit on the daft side and doing stupid things that required Teo to come to her rescue.
The plot is loose. The characters are underdeveloped and I didn't care about them. Nothing about the story packed a punch for me nor did it have the "wow factor".
I do think it could have been a really great read if the author had laid some groundwork at the beginning of the story, maybe explained why Victoria was being hunted by demons (there had to be more than that considering the BIG demons were out), maybe had someone other than Stephen miss her after she went with Teo. It had such great potential. It's a bummer that it missed the mark.
I am in love with his series already. Victoria and Teo are the perfect couple even when demons are after her. I love the protectiveness and loyalty that each one of these characters have. Excellent writing with a storyline that will make you fall in love.
Well, paranormal romance is not the sort of book I would usually read. But I gave it a try & I liked it. It was a bit short for my usual reading, but I would definitely like to read more in the following books in this series. The story line was good & it did keep my attention. I liked the characters & for someone who has not read this type of book before, I did not find it at all out of place. As this is, I believe, a first book by Adara, I can only say well done. I would have liked a bit more information on the host, as I usually like books that are over 500 pages, but I am sure that will come in the subsequent books. Though this is a stand alone book, with a definite finish, it does leave you wanting more. So if you enjoy paranormal romance give it a try, I am sure you won't be sorry.
Short prequel novella to the rest of the series, but can be read as a standalone sine the story does not have a cliffhanger ending. Although I suspect this ending may not be the final ending, and a certain character may continue to cause trouble in future books in the series. Interesting characters, but just didn’t “click” with me. The dialogue is somewhat stilted and just seemed forced to me. If the other books in the series ever go on sale, I might check them out. But as of now, I have lots of other $3.99 books that are more interesting.
