Always Thaddeus

Rate this book
Hope is a cornerstone of human existence. Hope may even define what it means to be human. It is such a visceral emotion that it can be even more enduring than love. For when love fails, the hope for love can endure. Three individuals, eagerly pursuing their own version of hope, arrive on the idyllic island of Owl’s Nest. Believing they will find hope through the others, they soon learn that they must find it alone. Sitting alone on the funeral parlor’s porch, Beth Morgan slowly rocks herself back and forth and back again. Alone in her misery she sits and rocks while frantically searching her mind for hope. Though there is a tombstone with her son’s name on it, she believes that Thaddeus is still alive. All she must do is find him. A stiff sea breeze coming off the water caresses Sandy Smithson’s face and pulls at her hair. She is invigorated by the smell of sea salt and fish as they compete for her senses. Suddenly feeling hopeful, she wonders if Owl’s Nest is where she will find love again. Running from his past, Andrew Morgan searches for sanctuary from the scars of life. He finds it on Owl’s Nest. But waiting in the shadows and hidden in plain sight…evil lurks. It moves through the streets, into the cottages, and onto the unruly shores of this peaceful island bringing devastation and destruction. Owl’s Nest, Maine, the respite from his past, turns on Andrew in a moment, leaving him exposed.

Andrew, Sandy and Beth are the three characters in this beautifully written thriller, each of whom has had a tragic past, and are now searching for that elusive feeling. Hope.
Little do they know that their paths are heading towards a convergence, where evil waits at that single destination.
I didn’t pick the ending, not even close, and when that happens I know it’s the brilliant writing of the author, Marcee Corn, who cleverly conceals the final outcome.
Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for this wonderful tale of loss, tragedy, hope, deceit and betrayal. After a sneak peek of Book 2, I am looking forward to another classic thriller.

The second book by Marcee Corn, and her first foray into the world of thrillers. She pulls it off too, with this intriguing tale set on the remote island of Owl's Nest.

The characters are well developed and the story zips along, twisting its way to a confronting conclusion on the idyllic island. The story engaged me throughout and I found myself heavily invested in Andrew, Sandy and Beth. Each of their pasts impacting heavily on their thoughts and emotions.

This is most certainly a thriller, and the tension builds throughout. It's a really good read, and I'm very much looking forward to book two.

Author Marcee Corn brilliant thriller novel Always Thaddeus is a story about three people. Andrew, Beth, and Sandy each with their own tragic past and how the past influences their future. The bulk of the story takes place on an island off the coast of Maine named Owl’s Nest. A seasonal tourist attraction and a year-round fishing village. Author Corn's beautiful writing style is easy to read and comprehend. The story settings are written in such a way you will feel the cold water, taste the salt air, and hear the waves crashing against the rocks. As the story unfolds, you will feel the highs and lows of each character. The reader will root for their favorite character as they overcome their tragic past. But as the story advances, not all is as it seems and concludes in a shocking end you didn’t see coming!

This romance thriller is a clean read and pleasing to all. A 5 Star read and I would highly recommend it.

An extraordinarily, crisp, clean, detailed story that will have you turning pages and wondering what next? There is a certain flow to this engaging read and, absolutely fantastic look and journey into the lives of three characters whose individual tragic losses and circumstances will pull at your heartstrings as they are tragic, broken beings, who have experienced loss, deprivation, neglect, abandonment, and traveled through and run the gambit of the broken spirit. Andrew, who continues to mourn the loss of his Thaddeus and, has chosen a life of seclusion in Owl’s Nest, Maine-his wife (Beth-drifting farther from his thoughts):Sandy, healing after the loss of her husband, Jim, and still plagued by her sister, Mary’s death-believing that she,as well, as her mom, especially, held her responsible-now,reconnecting with her dearest friend (and true love-as she will discover), Andrew, who takes her breath away with his musical composition and profession of his long standing love:and then, there’s Beth (the most tragic figure I had yet to encounter,in my opinion)-abandoned to an orphanage by her mother, who chose pith and her husband’s desires and demands over her own:she’s an outcasts:never felt loved and, even more horrific than that, is her brutal rape as a teenager! ‘She does not know how to love because she has never been loved.” A well-woven tale of loss, betrayal, and the evil that is yet to come. A must read!

Marcee Corn's Always Thaddeus is a heart-throbbing thriller. Beautifully written with well developed characters, it is a page turner. Three characters, Andrew, Sandy, and Beth will have you rooting for them, hoping they will find the peace they deserve after their early heartbreaks. Beth, an orphan deserted by her unfeeling parents, is bitter, but at the same time, she is striving to find someone to love her. Someone to bring out the good in her. But fate is cruel to her, and slowly what hope is in her is being wrested away from her as she is dealt one devastating blow after another. Sandy and Andrew, too, have faced life's cruel fates, but they had friends and family to help support them through the heartaches they suffered. In her young years, Beth had no one, except perhaps a friend in the orphanage, but was that friend ever a real friend? Will Beth, Andrew, and Sandy at last find the love they need to retain their sanity?

A Turbulent and Twisted Thriller

The rugged coastline of Owl’s Nest, Maine flanked by the tempest-tossed sea, is a strong metaphor for the intertwined characters who wend their way East.

The author deftly weaves her tale in this thriller through lyrical descriptions of the setting, and through her methods of baring each main character's anguished soul. The reader becomes privy to their personal disclosures via diary, journal entry, conversations, and flashbacks. Ms. Corn leaves no stone unturned in preparation for the incoming tide.

“Always Thaddeus,” referenced in the title, is an integral part of this turbulent and twisted thriller which left me gasping for air at the last minute.

I highly recommended this book for its poetic language, intriguing plotline, fully-fleshed characters, and shocking outcome.

Marcee Corn's Always Thaddeus is delightful mainstream fiction with the mystery and finesse of an American classic and the stirring vibes of an Oprah's Book Club pick. Readers who enjoy elements of romance and suspense will find Always Thaddeus an engaging read with gorgeous prose.

Andrew Morgan and Sandy Smithson have a second chance at love, but when the tides of their pasts arrive, they threaten to tear them apart with the surging waves of change.

Sandy was Andrew's forbidden love.

"I knew it was wrong in my heart, but that one kiss on that Thanksgiving sent a little spark deep down inside of me. It penetrated my empty heart . . . Sandy, I have wanted to tell you that for so very long."

Though it feels right now, something gives Sandy a sense of foreboding.

"In her dream, Sandy sits down in the meadow, and begins to cry because she has lost Andrew forever."

Beth's life has threatened to drown her, but she keeps her head above water to find her son, Thaddeus--a search that will impact all their lives.

"They say on the day that Thad died, he went to heaven. Did he?"

"Always Thaddeus,
Always mine,
'Til the end of time."

Between the characters' search for a better future is woven a history of love and loss, despair and hope.

Located on the island of Owl's Nest, Maine, the setting becomes a welcome character.

"The sea is exhilarating to watch as it tumbles down onto the rocks. Sandy is mesmerized by its raw energy and beauty. Large boulders and smaller rocks, in different shades of gray litter the seashore. Time, wind and water have shaped them into perfection. Pine trees line the rocky shore. A lighthouse stands further down as if sentry guarding the Maine coast against the sea."

Owl's Nest is the catalyst for change and a shocking future.

The novel includes a sneak peek at Always Thaddeus Book 2. Like many readers, I await the second book like a vacation to see an old friend in coastal Maine.

A Beautiful and Profound Thriller
Beth mourns the death of her son to a degree where she denies it.
Sandy mourns the loss of a beloved husband – and blames her younger self for her sister’s death.
Andrew can’t forget his dead son and has withdrawn to a small island near the Maine coast.
The three main characters’ fates intertwine, and all converge in the Owl’s Nest, where Andrew has set up his abode.
The coastal landscape and weather play a large part in the ensuing tragedy.
There are deep insights into the ravaging influence of childhood abuse in the unfolding of the drama that centres around Beth. At the same time, Marcee Corn portrays the romance that blossoms between Sandy and Andrew, college friends that lose contact and meet again as mature adults.
This book unfolds in waves of troubled beauty.

A derange Thriller: A journey of tales of a diary of the past. The characters felt so real the emotional Roller Coaster is raw. Marcee Corn has written a remarkable story that had me turning the page for more. The story modifies a mind-blowing view of how things could spiral out of control.
Five stars highly recommend the captivating read.
