The third installment of the Guardians somehow managed to pack A LOT of action in just 217 pages. This book was weird. I had trouble getting motivated to pick this up to read, but once I started, I couldn’t put it down.

To be honest, it was a great read, and I can’t put my finger on what made it hard to finish. This book manages to go all over west coast, see different fallout shelters and communities m, a lot of bad guys, a lot of good guys, and plenty of action.

However; and perhaps this is where the motivation died out. There was a lot of explaining of characters, situations and organizations, that tended to drag on. In fact, they didn’t drag on that much, but you would come out of an action scene, only to be tasked with the assignment of learning something new.

This book dialed WAY back on the over descriptions and made the book a lot less confusing than the first two installments. Still, the author gets carried away from time to time in descriptions, and you start getting confused on what’s happening.

The ending of the book is great! I won’t spoil anything but, the last location was very fun to read and it’s a-shame it only lasted two short chapters. Be warned, you will want to read book 2 before moving onto book 3 thanks to a surprise ending.

With that said, I had to go back to book 2 to refresh myself on the surprise ending (vague for spoilers). Overall I know it seems like I didn’t enjoy this one, but it was easily my favorite of the series so far! I still hold my opinion, that book 5 will be the best one so far, due to the cover art. It seems like book 5 is when the author goes completely over the top! On to book 4! 5/5 stars.
