When the Dubois investigation turns up an unexpected connection to the Russian mob, Luna finds herself heading down a terrifying path of no return. Soon she is held captive by the very evil she hunts―one that reaches far across the borders of Nocturne City to the seedy brothels of Europe and beyond. Now, with street smarts, seduction, and a sixth-sense for danger as her only weapons, Luna will enlist the help of her former lover Dmitri―who has his own reasons for bringing down this crime ring―and risk it all in the ultimate showdown.
Caitlin started writing novels at age 13. Her first was a Star Wars tie-in. Fortunately, she branched out from there and after a few years trying to be a screenwriter, a comic book writer and the author of copious amounts of fanfiction, she tried to write a novel again. Her epic dark fantasy (thankfully) never saw the light of day but while she was struggling with elves and sorcerers she got the idea of writing a story about a werewolf who fought crime.
Two years and many, many drafts later, she pitched Night Life to a bevy of agents and one of them, Rachel Vater, sold the series to St. Martin’s.
Caitlin collects comic books, print books, vintage clothes, and bad habits. She loves tea, loud music, the color black (especially mixed with the color pink) and ghost stories. She can drive a stick shift, play the violin and knows more English curses than American ones.

The Review:
This book was much darker than the first few books, and half the time I was worried that she finally stuck her foot in her mouth one to many times, and that she wasn't going to make it out there alive.. But then again we are talking about Luna here. For this beiing rumoured to be the last book in the Nocturne City series it sure as hell went out with a bang.
I couldn't have hoped for more non stop action that kept you on your toes as she fought her way in and out of some of the most desperate situations that I've seen her come out of. Come on crazy pack leaders, even crazier witches, Wendigos, and crazy Thelemites. Ya this, this couldn't keep her down if none of the rest couldn't..
Loved the book, Love the Author.. If there are more in the series I will be one of those out there waiting for it to be written.
I did not even notice until finished that the book blurb for this book was actually the back cover blurb for Witchcraft, that is one of the things I learned. (Means am not very observant I guess)
Luna Wilder has outdone herself in this story, she manages to somehow come out alive again despite all the odds against her! I truly believe at this point that if it were up to me, I think she would be a goner in the first few pages. I have somehow lost most of my earlier empathy for the character, read the other day where someone else had put her on their heroine list of females TSTL and think maybe am starting to agree with that theory at times !!!
The story was a thrill ride, but did not have the same punch in the gut for me as the first 4 so it leaves me with mixed feelings. I was however kept guessing all the way to the end on the villian, the byplay between Luna and Will Fagin was just not as dynamic as that between her and Dimitri in past encounters and there was a slightly choppy feel at times that somewhat took away from the momentum. I did enjoy the way all the loose ends tied up, even the fact that in researching the series it appears we are now at an end. If so than so be it, if not cannot wait to see what kind of hair raising escapades are written for Luna by Caitlin Kittredge in the next book if there are any more!!
First, the good news: I was into the story throughout the whole book and was never bored or lost. Now for the other stuff. I normally don't have the time to get very specific in my reviews and just share my general impressions, but there were a few things I just couldn't let go. First, Luna starts off really unlikeable and doesn't get a whole lot better (even though it's easy to root for her kicking bad guy ass. They are really bad guys.) Within the first 7 pages she has stiffed a guy on a tip and 'sized' a new woman up with her first distinction being that she was 'carrying about 20 over her ideal weight.' She was then rude to said woman for no reason other than Luna was upset with someone else over her being there. Not too long after this she forces a fellow cop who is supposed to be a friend to pay an informant- knowing she makes a lot more money than he does and thinks to herself how she pleased with herself about this. Also, there was a little bit of 'purple prose' that kind of bothered me. The worst offender: "What kind of world do we live in when this can happen to a sweet little girl?" Nate asked me. "No kind of world," I said. "But it's the only one we've got." Ugh. I wonder whether this was planned to be the last book or it just happened that way. If it was planned- then boo. It ends on a total cliffhanger. But fortunately or unfortunately, I just don't care enough about how it ended to wish there was a 6th book. This sounds like a 1 star review. Obviously it's not or I would have given it 1 star. It really was a good read. Just not great. I suppose sometimes it's easier to point out the little things that bother you about something than describe your overall feelings about what you like.
Daemon's Mark takes you on another wild ride with Insoli Luna, Lieutenant in charge of the Supernatural Crime Squad for the Nocturne City Police Dept. As always, Luna is determined to "get her man" after she is brought in on the homicide of Lily Dubois, a young were. She always has a tendency to act first, think later. But, she's always had her team and those that care about her to help her out of any situations she gets herself into. This time, charging in takes her to a place where only one person can help her. Someone she wasn't expecting to see again.
I was happy to see Will Fagin, ATF agent, play a bigger part in this book and in Luna's life. She needs someone to love her and help her deal with her fear of "keep{ing} the were inside".
This continues to be one of my favorite series. I will definitely be reading Book #6!
Having lived in Eastern Europe for a while, I can sadly say that the story discussed in this book is a real, on-going tragedy. People are taken from all over the world and sold into slavery and/or forced prostitution.
More than 2,000 people are trafficked all over the world everyday...
So I'm only a few pages in but a were girl is dead and missing her heart, so she asks what someone would want with a "human" heart...except this isn't a human heart so why is that specifically what she is asking? This is by far the stupidest main character ever written. She escapes from the brothel in Kiev, but rather than getting it shut down she runs off after Masha, Dmitri's daughter. Even if they needed to keep things quiet until she got the girl, there is NO reason they couldn't have called in the troops, gotten a faster way to where Masha was and were you really surprised that Belikov knew where you were headed and got there first? I wasn't. What about when he zapped Dmitri then you let him get close enough to touch you...yeah that is a stupid idea, but Luna isn't that intelligent anyway. Oh and then instead of turning over the evidence in the Ukraine, she waits until she gets home and has a nice bubble bath. What a horrible selfish piece of crap Luna turns out to be! I'm sorry do you think that maybe your first priority should be the poor women being raped and killed...maybe? Perhaps you can stop whining for a minute and get them free before your first class ticket home. And um dare I ask what happened to the poor girl who she left with Dmitri? This is where I stop reading about this stupid woman who is sanctimonious and stupid without helping anyone and instead getting people killed. Don't bother reading this book it's garbage just like Luna.

Caitlin Kittredge does such an excellent job creating this mysterious, dark world with weres and witches. And she creates characters that you absolutely love and some you love to hate. This time around, she had me staying up late to find out what was going to happen next. I was on the edge of my seat, I laughed, I cried, and I was so tense from the thrilling adventure we were taken on that it took me hours to calm down. I love this series, and they just keep getting better. The smart and gutsy Luna Wilder is such a kick. I highly recommend this series if you like a strong female heroine with a smart mouth and the skills to back it up. Great read.
So I hear this is the last book in the series. I'm a little sad that now that Luna has FINALLY grown up, we won't get to read anymore about her. I think it works pretty well as an ending, all in all. It's left open though, so she could revisit the series later if she wanted. I'm glad I stuck with it, but also glad it's done. These books wore me out!
Only regret , not reading the first 4 , first ;) . Interesting story, read in 1 day, didnt want to wait till 2mrw to finish it, love the drama, the story line, the charaters.the romance ( not alot but just enough) the friendships . Reallllly good book.
The story is needlessly convoluted and broke suspension of disbelief too often for me to work. The fact that the backside blurb was written for a different part of the series, leasving me running blind into a story about sextrafficking, didn't help much either.
Main character Luna Wilder reminds a lot of Laurel K. Hamilton's Anita Blake with her open dislike of other women and comically overdrawn strengths, however what usually works as a fun nod to the equally exaggerated lone wolf characters of crime literature, because tedious to read when in the second half Luna engages in match with the main villain of who can stupid out the other as neither one's actions make a smitten of logical sense.
Small bright side is as usual Luna's cousin Sunny, who I would have liked to read more of.
Hello Caitlin my name is Shirley I'm new at reading your books. I've read one's about detective Luna and Dmitri they kept my attention very well. When I read Daemon's Mark and read how you killed Dimitri off I lost interest in the book. They are both weres and they should be together. Dmitri gave up everything to be with her She's the reason he ended up with the Daemon blood. Luna and Will don't fit, I hope in the near future you some how bring them back together with a love that even death couldn't destroy. That is why I rated this book a three star.
3.5 stars. First one of Kittredge's books I've read that sucked me in and kept me interested. Read in a single day. This book seemed far more polished than the previous books. The writing style was much better, more modern, rather than the outdated style of most of the other books. There were still a few things that I had issues with, and the writing wasn't nearly as polished as other writers in the genre. But there's a lot of potential. This is more like the first books from some of my favorite authors. You can see the potential, it just doesn't quite reach the level it could have.
After more than six weeks, I'm calling it: DNF. I stopped reading because Luna had finally gotten to a mostly-good place in her life and I could see the storm coming. She would make a couple of bad decisions and one or two catastrophic ones, and I just couldn't stand to go through that. She spent four full books growing as a person and she was going to fall back on old habits and life is too short to torture myself, so I'm giving up on this one.
I was sorry there weren't more books in this series to read, but kudos to the author leaving her readers wanting more. I really enjoyed every title, & back then I wasn't reading werewolf fiction, so I think that speaks to how good I thought they were.
I'd say, this is the best book in the series. However, please, if the protagonist is a police officer, please consider better tactical desions. Have an ak? Why drop the magazine? The sig gets away, you pull the .38, but then you have the sig... Still, the plot was pretty good.

When Luna Wilder is called to investigate a homicide at the docks she never expects to see a murdered 15 year old. Especially not a murdered teenage were with her heart missing. As Luna and the "freak Squad" dig deeper they find the Russian mob, human trafficking, and fight clubs. But if Luna thinks that bad...then she's in for a big surprise.
In Catlin Kittredge's edgy PNR series-Nocturne City-Luna Wilder is back with plenty of thrills and chills in Daemon's Mark. After the war in Witch Craft, Luna has been slowly rebuilding her home and her life. A life that now includes the hot and sexy ATF agent- Will Fagin. When Luna and her unit discover a murdered teenage were, Luna not only has to solve the crime, but also has to deal with the murdered were's parents. Who just happen to be Alphas in the Were community and are not happy an Insoli is in charge. As Luna digs deeper she discovers that this murder is just the tip of the iceberg. The case crosses international lines and Luna gets a visit from an old "friend" in need of her help. So in true Luna fashion, she jumps in an worries about the consequences later.
Kittredge's Nocturne City series is a dark suspense investigative PNR that keeps you on your toes following Luna and the "freak squad" through their supernatural investigations. Currently, there are only five books planned for this series, although according to her website that could change. The world building is fascinating; continuing to intrigue with the merging of the were and human community. Luna is an interesting protagonist. She is rude, obnoxious, and hell bent on her own destruction. But at her center is a heart of gold and everything she does is for the victim. I like Will with Luna because he is her grounding rod and she needs that. He doesn't take her crap.
The dialog is solid and flows like water. No abrupt starts and ending. Scenes play out well and with lots of action and suspense. All our favorite characters are back; each having their moment in the sun. Kittredge lobs a few surprises at us that answer questions but leave you reeling a little. The end wraps us nicely though I do hope this is not the end.
The only problem I have is Luna's attitude. What makes her an interesting character wears on you after a while. She welds her attitude like a sharp knife, drawing blood with each sentence. I would have liked to see a little more maturity. I would have also liked to have seen a little more Were. With each book she acts more and more human and we rarely see her shift anymore. Other then that the book is still the exciting Nocturne City we have grown to love.
Daemon's Mark is the fifth (and final) installment in the Nocturne City novels. This book can be summed up into one word for Nocturne City fans, "WOW". I've been a fan of this series since page one of Night Life. Luna is a kick-ass, smart mouthed, troubled character, who will always try to do right for someone, even if it means hurting herself in the process. Dimirti, her ex-boyfriend/fellow were, and Luna had a falling in book 3(Second Skin, and we didn't get to see any of him in Witch Craft(book 4). She moved on with Will(her current, human cursed boyfriend), and was just starting to forget Dimitri.
Dimitri was a favorite of mine. Sure, he has a lot of problems, but so does Luna. In the ends, that's mostly their problem, they are too much alike. The other major problem would be Asmodeus(Daemon), that is now a part of Dimirti.
Will on the other hand, is a perfect match for Luna. He's not a were, but he is a (cursed & VERY? old) and is witty enough back enough to put up with her smart remarks. Silly even. He loves Luna for everything she is, and doesn't want her to change. He's there for her when she needs him. But will she want him to be?
This time around, Luna gets into the worst trouble she has ever been into. With the Death of a teenage were name lily's as her next case. Her Family is crushed and acting out. She now has the pressure of the case, plus the teenagers fathers threats of finding the one who did it on her shoulders. She searches for answers, in places they don't want to be found and get's dragged into a world no one would want to even hear about. She ends up getting kidnapped and sent to Kiev, Russia for sex-trafficking. And that's only the half of it!
Daemon's Mark has many surprises. Especially concerning Dimitri. The story is well thought out, and the characters are as good as ever. You have your small, long time liked characters, such as Mac, Sunny, Bryson & Dr. Kronen. Sunny doesn't have as big of a part as she usually does, but she does make an appearance. And Asmodeus also makes and unwanted appearance. If there is another book ahead, he will be showing himself again, for sure. I say IF because, it's said that it's the last of the series. And my may very well be, but I REALLY hope it's not. It ended where it could go either way, but it still has so much potential... I want to see more of Luna.
If your a fan of Urban Fantasy, Supernatural beings, Menace and thrilling action, this is the story for you. This whole series is addicting. Everything Kittredge does, is addictive. She knows her stuff and writes pure gold. If you haven't read a Kittredge novel, I'd say you better put it as your next book to read. You won't be sorry.

60 points/100 (3 ¼ stars) Warning: human trafficking, attempted rape
Luna Wilder is a homicide detective, and when an investigation leads her to a connection with the Russian Mob, Luna knows she has to handle things carefully. Taken from Nocturne City, and even the country, Luna has to fight to survive in a situation led by evil.
Daemon's Mark was definitely the best book in the entire series. Too bad it is a little too little, too late. And it was also the only one I remembered with any degree of familiarity from my first read over nine years ago. It was the only one that had anything unique about it at all. There are a lot of trigger warnings for the story.
This is actually a much darker story than what we have previously seen. Bad things happen. Lots and lots of bad things happen. It is a complete tone shift. It really improves the story a lot. It still isn't completely coherent, but at least it is better. I wouldn't say I liked it, but it wasn't a chore to read anymore.
The best change between Daemon's Mark and the rest of the series is that Luna has a boyfriend that isn't a horrible person, and who she doesn't fight with all the time. I don't hate him to the core of my being. He is honestly a good person to have around. And they support each other. This is what a relationship is actually supposed to be. Though, of course Dmitri shows up in the story to fight with one last time. Because that is what I needed.
Daemon's Mark has a very, very soft ending. I suspect Caitlin Kittredge wanted this to serve as a turning point in the series, and actually had plans to continue on with the series. She just never got the chance, as happens occasionally. The story is more or less over though, as good as it can get. Most things are tied off, I think the author just wanted to do more.
I have been a fan of this series since the start. I really LOVED the last book; I liked the growth and maturity in the character Luna. She went from being self-involved and obnoxious to being a very likeable character.
I hate doing bad reviews; I have friends who are authors and my daughter is an author. That said, let's talk about this book...
This story was flawed from the start. It begins with a victim that you could care less about. Next, you add the parents of the victim, who you are completely unable to relate to and who are overly obnoixious. By this point, you are begining to trudge through, hoping this story picks up somewhere. Then, you add a perfectly nice new detective....that Luna verbally abuses not-stop! To me, this completely erases all the progress made in the last two books as far as Lunas growth and maturity. She has completely reverted back to being unlikable.
This is when you are asking yourself, "why am I reading this book?" But I trudged onward, and I reached the middle of the book. This is the point where, for me, it goes from a 2 1/2 - 3 star book to being a complete trainwreck. I wont bore you with spoilers here, other than to say Kittredge takes the story to new levels of low. I seriously had completely given up on this book by this point. Without saying who, I will say she sacrificed a perfectly good character for no good reason (other than shock value, I guess). By the time it was over, I was very disappointed!
In all honesty, I would rate this book about 1/4 of a star. Since they don't have that option, I will give it a 1. As far as recommending this book: my advice to fans of this series is to skip this book and pretend the last one was the end of the series.
Book five in the Nocturne City series by Kittredge, Daemon's Mark, was a page turner. I read it one sitting. Luna’s life has really changed from when we first met her. Luna is now a Lieutenant in charge of her own squad dealing with crimes involving supernaturals. She has also been dating ATF Agent Will Fagin for six months solid, a real milestone for Luna, who hasn't had a lot of luck with boyfriends in the past. Then in the middle of a date, Luna gets called down to the docks where the body of a young female were named Lily is found floating in the water missing her heart. Before she can say “Hex me,” Luna is neck deep in missing female witches and weres, the Russian mob, and threats from the dead girl’s pack. Haunted by Lily’s ghost, Luna is driven to get to the bottom of her murder no matter what it costs her. Will Luna’s mouth finally get her into more trouble than she can handle?
This book was action packed. Literally haunted by the death of a young girl, Luna finds herself battling not only with the bad guys but her own inner monster. As she finds it harder to hold back her were-side, she finds herself making mistakes and pushing herself and her investigation to the limit. Then, she is taken totally out of her comfort zone, and must fight for survival without her team, or Will, to back her up.
A real thrill ride from start to finish, I thoroughly enjoyed this book even when I was shaking my head at some of the stupid things Luna does. My only complaint is that this seems to be the last book in the series, and all I have to say is WTF??? This book certainly did not feel like the end and Kittredge has left some really big questions unanswered, not to mention that the end felt like a set up for the next book.
I came upon this book by chance and would have dismissed it except for a favorable blurb on the cover by Jim Butcher. Now while I don't think it's anywhere near Butcher's work or fit for my keeper shelf, I did enjoy it a lot and will look for the rest of the series. Luna Wilder is the lieutenant in charge of Nocturne City's Supernatural Crime Squad. When a young were girl's corpse is found floating by the pier, the case falls to her and immediately causes her trouble when the girl's parents, prominent members of a different pack from hers, try to bully her into letting them pursue pack justice instead of following the law. Things only get worse when she uncovers links to a human trafficking scheme. The book is packed with action and interesting characters, but I found Luna herself a little erratic and her penchant for letting her temper get her into trouble a bit overblown. Also, in the second half of the story (in Kiev), I thought the (sometimes bonehead) decisions she made were rather contrived, designed to get her into bad situations simply for the excitement factor and to lead her to the next revelation in the story, and the way she is able to survive encounters with enemies far stronger than her physically, as well as her ability to bounce back from said encounters, a bit hard to swallow. Despite these eye-roll-inducing portions, the action was brisk, the story fast-paced, and the characters well-developed. I was a little confused by references to previous books (this is unfortunately #5 and the latest in the series) but that did not cause a problem following the story. Now I will have to find the previous books to get it all straight, and I'm looking forward to that.

I read this is going to be the last book of Nocturne City, at least for awhile. Since this is what Ms. Kittredge wrote in her blog ("At this time, there’s no more plans for more Nocturne City novels") If that is the case, then I'm pretty satisfied with the development in Luna's life.
There are some parts I like and dislike. The one I like the most will be:
1) Luna finally makes a further step in her relationship with Will (he's really good for her, I know)
2) Goodbye, Dmitri, (thank God!), and
3) The case that brings Luna from Nocturne City to Kiev is pretty intense. Luna shows how bad-ass she can be while she is being kidnapped and sold to sex slaves. The part where is definitely hardcore.
The ones I don't like?
Take Luna away from her squad and Will, put her with Dmitri, and I really want to scream in frustration. Because I don't like Luna when she's with Dmitri. I just don't. He's bad for her and during those chapters when they're together, I want to stab Dmitri myself, not caring that he's in pain of having his daughter(!) kidnapped. I miss the whole squad (Bryson especially) as well as Sunny. As bad-ass as Luna is in Kiev but she's alone and I prefer her being in the realm of Nocturne City, because it's her home turf.
Luna, Luna, Luna! Luna finds herself in a mess...again. Luna is tasked with finding the murderer of a young female Were. If that wasn't enough stress on her, the girl belonged to a wealthy family and the girl's father is the Alpha male of the community. Luna finds herself abroad in this book, and not of her own free will. Luna uncovers a ring of nasty criminals that work throughout the states and the European nations. Just when she decides what to do with her love life she encounters her old boyfriend, Dimitri. Dimitri is a major player in this book. His new pack is missing members and he fears that they are victims of this crime ring. Luna will have to decide whether to put aside old feelings and help him or risk her life to complete her job. This book was ok. I've found the the other books in the Nocturne City series were far better than this one. Kittredge wraps up some unanswered questions but Luna is in for another shock when she finds that she is experiencing things she has never before. With that being said, I look forward to the next book. I love getting lost in Luna's world. I wish I had a Dimitri to run around with, a Will wouldn't be so bad either.
This series is one that I have luckily read in order. I'm not saying you would be totally lost if you read this one without the others first, but it would probably be harder. Anyways, this book revealed the "softer" side of Luna. She's still a rough around the edges cop and mostly a major, well you know. But in this book she seems more human.
Having Will in her life has been a good influence. She may not realize it but she is growing as a person. Even if she feels like the animal inside is trying to dig its way out. She also seems like she has gotten over Dimitri. There is no mooning over him, at least to start.
As usual Luna finds herself way over her head and potentially trapped in a dangerous situation. Forced to confront both her past and her monster Luna must fight tooth and claw to get home and reclaim her life.
If you liked the first four I think you will enjoy this one.
After the just ok last book, this series is back. Luna seems to have settled into her life and it has become almost normal, with the exception of turning into a were and dating an immortal man. And you know what happens when life becomes blah in a book, it means that all hell is ready to break open and sure enough it does right after Luna is called to a crime.
It is a seemingly normal murder, but one that puts Luna in grave danger by chasing one clue after another. Luna finds herself at the mercy of the Russian mob and trapped within them. It looks like she has finally gotten into a mess that she can't escape from and even has her second guessing things from her past. With her past firmly in her face Luna has to make some hard choices, ones that have a deep effect on her.
