This is a great quick read. I was able to read it twice. If you need motivation for your dreams but don’t have time to read about how the pros did it in their biographies, then I recommend this one. Mark the quotes that jump out at you for future references.
In some ways this is a quick read, filled with engaging and inspiring stories. Definitely a book to keep to hand when seeking a little uplift. In other ways it's a slow read ... Try reading it with a notebook and pencil alongside, pausing at each quote or example that resonates, and muse on the thoughts which come to mind. You may well find that each chapter can bring numerous pages of reflection, and open a door to a slew of limiting and unsupportive beliefs which, alone and in combination, have served as manacles on growth, as blocks to a richer experience of life.
Such a motivational little book! This is one I'm definitely keeping on my shelf to come back to when I'm lacking the inspiration and guts to follow my dreams :)
While the format was a bit repetitive and some of the content was dull, I found this to be quite encouraging and has left me with a few things to reflect on!
Maxwells purpose on writing this book is to inspire the reader, and as the title says, "dare to dream." This book had a valuable impact on the audience since it’s an inspiring book based on Maxwells experience and important quotes such as “Objectives are nothing without actions." Maxwells idea is to give an personal view of famous people and old sayings and explain why these make sense into out lives, making this book very well written. He does not only give you the initiative to think about your dreams, he also recommends you to create a compromise with your dream and stick with it. He quotes "what the mind can conceive and create, that it can do" making the reader understands that nothing is impossible. This book is a good one to have close by at all times, just to remind you never to give up, and that there are others who have dreamed before you, and achieved those dreams.
This book was thought provoking since it made you meditate on your daily life and what you're doing with it. Maxwell talks about Arnold Palmer and his story on not giving up on his dream of becoming golf professional. As well as showing that even the best out there make mistakes. No one is saved from making a wrong decision or saying something they weren’t supposed to, that’s the whole purpose of live, to learn from your mistakes. I feel like anyone out there could relate to this book, since no one is perfect. Nor the less, it’s always to try and do the best you can.
The greatest strength of this book is that Maxwell didn’t focus on himself and said "this is why I’m great," he gave numerous examples of people who just like me or the audience. we all have made decisions that have affected our future, but showing the light at the end of the tunnel, proving that there is a way out and if you put your head on your goal than you can do it. Maxwell tells a short story of a man who is in a stadium and its sitting on the last row, and noticed that one seat in the middle of the stadium which was empty, he walks to it and ask the man next to the seat if anyone was there and the man says it was his wife’s seat but she had passed away, therefore the man looking to sit there asks "was there anyone else from your family who could of accompanied you?" and the man sitting says "no, they are all in the funeral." Deep, isn’t it? This is exactly how the book is written. I would surely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for some daily inspiration.
Re-read before giving away. One of the best quotes: "Sacred cows make the best burgers." One of the worst Scriptural maulings: "Whatever things are true, whatever things are noble....That admonition applies to things about yourself as well as about the things of God." One of the best people quotes, from TS Eliot: "Half of the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They do not mean to do harm...they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves." On success: "The arrogance of success is to think that what you did yesterday will be sufficient for tomorrow."
The one shortcoming I had with this book is that it is short. But it was quick to read, and it had some very good quotes and info. The shortcoming I felt it had is an advantage when you need a jolt to keep pursuing a dream... in that this is a book you can easily read when most books we will leave on the bookshelf.
A short, simple rah-rah! It is full of quotes and cliched phrases making it very simple to read. While it is positive and makes you feel good, I found the book a little tedious at best. I feel like Maxwell gathered a bunch of quotes, some maxims, a few witty stories, and just threw them together between two covers so that he could call it a book and make some money selling it.
This book is a good one to have close by at all times, just to remind you never to give up, and that there are others who have dreamed before you, and achieved those dreams.
This book is a great reminder of beneficial ideas (nine, to be exact) that can instantly improve your life, IF put into practice! 👌 #TheWisdomOfJohnCMaxwell
