About the author

Jane Ludlow Drake Abbott (1879-1962) was an American author who began her career writing for adolescent girls, and went on to write adult romance. Born in Buffalo, New York, to a family involved in the shipbuilding industry of the Great Lakes region, she was educated at Cornell University, and married Buffalo attorney Frank A. Abbott. Most of her twenty juvenile titles were published under the name Jane D. Abbott, although a few were released under the name Jane Abbott. Her adult titles were all released under the name Jane Abbott.

Free Kindle download. A nice little story of a 12-yr-old girl who faces life-changing decisions. In 1915, Keineth must decide to live with a rich, stuffy aunt, or live with strangers who have 4 children, as her father goes off on a secret mission for the president.
She chooses the strangers and experiences new friendships, sports and a loving family life.
The story follows her awakening to this new life and new self-confidence. Eventually, her father returns and he now faces a big decision: a quiet life with Keineth or a position in the Cabinet.

Charming.

Pleasant reading. YA girl's fiction from the WW1 era. In the same vein as Little Women or Pollyanna but more determinedly wholesome with a "message" to get across. I liked Abbott's Happy House and Red Robin better.
