Yazawa's stories focus on young, often rebellious women and their relationships. The characters are always very stylish, and Yazawa herself is known for her sense of fashion. (She even attended a fashion school for some time after high school.)

5⭐️. Tenshi nanka janai (There's no such thing as an angel) is an early work of Ai Yazawa, the creator of the manga hits Nana and Paradise Kiss. Tenshi nanka janai is a funny and romantic high school drama which takes a more emotional turn in the third volume.
Love is not easy for our three couples: Midori and Akira, Harada and Shūichi (with Yuko having feelings for Shūichi) and teacher Hiroko and her boyfriend Masashi in Paris (with Akira having had love feelings for Hiroko and still deeply cares for her happiness).
At School Harada brags about the fact that Shūichi has given her a ring that Harada wears as an engagement ring. While Akira works at a karaoke bar, he sees that Harada leaves the bar with some older men that Akira does not recognize. Finally, Harada finds out that Shūichi went camping with the student council, teacher Hiroko and her boyfriend during the summer break. Harada and Shūichi have a talk, in which Shūichi says that Harada would have told Shūichi to not go. Shūichi says that the two of them need to have a break. The need of control and jealousy of Harada seem to have been too much for Shūichi.
One night during the camping, Midori overhears a conversation between Akira and Hiroko's boyfriend Masashi. Masashi had been at Paris for a year. However, Akira and Hiroko feared that the Masashi would never return to Japan. Akira asks the Masashi to make some kind of commitment to Hiroko, to make her happy. Akira also admits that he used to love Hiroko. Midori starts to cry. The relationship between Akira and teacher Hiroko had been more than a friendship as Akira had told Midori during their date at the amusement park. Akira had loved Hiroko but she did not return his feelings.

Later on, Midori and Akira finds out that Hiroko's boyfriend Masashi has left Japan again. He had left a note, saying that he did indeed have no intention of returning to Japan. He was worried about Akira and seeing that Akira seems to do well now Masashi decides to go back to Paris. Akira went straight to the airport while Midori meet up Hiroko to apologize that she did not notice that Masashi was on the leave. Hiroko tells Midori that she knew and that Masashi asked Hiroko to join him to Paris. However, Hiroko could not do that. She has her teacher dream and family in Japan and she could not leave them behind. Midori and Hiroko find Akira at the airport. Quickly Midori starts to feel like a third wheel in the situation, observes herself how Akira reacts in a caring way towards Hiroko.
On Midori's birthday she cached up with her friends from junior high school. One of these friends, Ken, sends two tickets to a gig his band is doing to Midori. Midori invites Akira to join her but he tells her that he cannot because he has some work that he cannot get out of. Midori is very understanding and invites Yuki to join her instead. However, on the concert day Midori sees Akira with teacher Hiroko, realizing that Akira had lied to her!

Oh my... sensei ini benar2 punya fashion sense yg bagusss... XD aku selalu suka dengan outfit para tokohnya, sejak pertama kali baca karya sensei yg lain yg judulnya
Gokinjo Monogatari
dan
Paradise Kiss
(sequel Gokinjo) yg temanya fashion world, baju2 mereka sangat fashionable, inspirasional dan cuteeeee sekali! Selalu bikin aku mupeng liatnya, lol.
Bahkan guru2nya (di Tenshi Nanka ja Nai) juga semuanya fashionable sekali, tua dan muda, wanita dan pria. Biasanya kan kalo di komik lain tuh formulanya : kaos x kemeja x rok x celana polos tok. Jarang2 loh ada mangaka yg rajin gambar outfit tokoh2nya secara terkadang butuh banyak tone buat motif baju mereka. Tapi, ga semua baju yg fashionable itu butuh tone kok. ;)
Anyway, di sini ceritanya Akira naga2nya sudah mau putus dari Midori krn berbohong pada Midori, bilangnya sibuk kerja, eh ga taunya kepergok Midori lagi jalan bareng Hiroko (cinta pertamanya Akira). Oh man, aku ga terlalu keki sih liat Akira x Hiroko jalan bareng, putus sajalah Akira x Midori ini, kayanya berat sebelah gitu cintanya.... Lagian sekarang setelah Ken muncul, kurasa Midori x Ken saja deh, krn chemistry antara Midori x Akira gitu2 saja setelah pacaran, berasa cuma Midori yg lagi di surga ketujuh sendirian, padahal Akira adem ayem gitu... Aku sih sebenarnya lebih enjoy kisah Mamirin x Takigawa x Shino, lebih seru, haha.

-A review for the whole series-
Miss Yazawa has done it again. I've praised her works so many times that it's getting repetitive. There's so much to love about this series and the characters. Ai Yazawa does a splendid job in capturing human nature and our tendencies as human beings. I feel that this series ranks up in my top two of Yazawa's series (Paradise Kiss being the first). The feelings and emotions of the characters are raw, and just so real that you can't help but want to jump into the pages and be with them.
Yazawa is a true master storyteller and artist. Although it's an early work (1990s I'm guessing), her prominent, funky, and unique style begins to take hold in her drawings. Always the fashion fanatic, the character designs are wonderful. I wonder what else she has up her sleeve. Time can only tell bit for now, I wish for Ai Yazawa recover soon!
