Lizbeth is having a rough time. After her captain and best-friend Acton is kidnapped from their ship, she is forced to serve under the disgusting hand of one of her least favorite people, Troy. But things have improved because she has located Acton. Now, she just needs to convince Troy to turn the ship around so they can go and get him. Living on earth with no idea that he is actually the captain of a major space vessel, Acton will have to rediscover his past quickly because the Instigator and all of it’s crew are under attack from an enemy that will do anything to protect what it values most above other things: the sanctity of earth. But as Acton and Lizbeth become reacquainted, they will need their new love to help them defeat the traitor who hunts them and wants only their deaths to satisfy his desires.
Five years ago Lizbeth had to deal with the sudden disappearance of her captain, and best friend, Acton. In the middle of space, surrounded by nothing but stars, he simply disappeared off the bridge. And that’s when she realized that she was in love with him. Now, finally, she’s located him. In the far reaches of an area they’re not supposed to breach due to alliances, Acton is on a little planet called Earth.
After convincing the acting-captain to let her go in to get Acton, Lizbeth finds herself directly in his path. He nearly runs her over, but doesn’t recognize her, or himself. In fact he thinks he’s a human lawyer named Charles. With no time to explain she transports them back up to their space vessel and hopes he remembers who he is.
Because they’ve got trouble. They’re somewhere forbidden and the dangers increase with every moment. As they reacquaint themselves with one another, and their shared passion they’ll have to outwit a traitor, who wants only their deaths.
Yes, Captain is a quick fun read that centers on a futuristic race from another planet who look and act much like humans. The characters are interesting and when I started reading I wanted to know more.
The plot is quick and keeps moving at a fast pace. Somewhat to the detriment of the story. Things are moving along so quickly that it’s, at times, hard to get to know the characters or understand their motivations. While it’s a fairly simply story and you don’t need a lot of explanation, I wanted more insight into the characters. They were appealing and had a ton of potential. Unfortunately I felt like some of the potential of Yes, Captain was lost due page count. I think it, easily, could have done with a longer format and more depth.
All in all, Yes, Captain is a quick read that’s enjoyable if you aren’t looking for too much world-building or depth.
It’s been five years since Acton, captain of the Instigator was kidnapped, but Lizbeth has never given up searching for him. Her persistence has paid off and she has finally located the man she has secretly loved. He’s living on a planet called Earth and all she has to do is convince the slimy acting captain of the Instigator to order Acton’s rescue.
Acton has no memory of his life as captain of the Instigator and no clue that he isn’t human. That doesn’t stop the instant attraction he feels towards the beauty claiming he is a space ship captain. Once aboard the Instigator, however, things start coming back to him, not the least of which are his feelings for Lizbeth. But before Acton and Lizbeth can give into their long-held passion for one another and seize their opportunity to find happiness, they have to uncover a traitor lurking amongst the Instigator’s crew.
I’m not, as a rule, that interested in science fiction, but something about Yes, Captain intrigued me enough to give the story a shot. I’m so glad I did. Rebecca Royce has penned a sensual, entertaining tale with two strong, intelligent protagonists you have to like. I very quickly came to care for both Lizbeth and Acton and wanted to see them make a move to end their years of longing for one another. When they did, it was both sweet and sexy – a true delight. All in all, I adored Yes, Captain and I’m looking forward to reading more of Ms. Royce’s work.
This is a sweet science fiction romance short story. Lizbeth and Acton's love for each other, although they've never confessed it, comes through clearly. After finally confessing their love, they are thrown into a situation demanding them to be separated for a century and must find a way to over turn this decision.
I enjoyed reading this story and believe it has potential to be expanded into a full-length novel.
