He's a fighter... And he never gives up. After giving the last sixteen years of his life to Uncle Sam, Lark Shelton finally puts down his gun and hangs up his uniform. Opening The Landing Strip bar with his two best friends and brothers at arms seems like the perfect escape from his past. One-night stands are all he will commit to, but when he encounters the feisty and sensual Paisley Black, Lark longs for something more--something deeper than his typical hook-ups. She's everything he never knew he wanted, and he's determined not to let her go.
Shelley was born and raised in Kentucky and doesn't see herself leaving the bluegrass state anytime soon. Shelley and her husband have been together for sixteen years, and they share three beautiful daughters and one handsome son. Although Grim Bastards is her first published novel, she has been a fan of romance reads for many, many years. Shelley loves all sorts of genres of romance but Contemporary, New Adult, and Romantic Comedy are her all-time favorites.
A reading ok and I must say I was a little disappointed. Unnecessary drama and without clear motives of evil woman. She was simply crazy. Friendly and likable heroes. But I read until the end which is a plus point.
I love the writing duo of Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield. They know how to write sexy Alpha males and sweet feisty women. Last Call this is no exception.
Lark and his best friends and brother's at arms decide to open a bar after devoting his life to Uncle Sam. These men aren't looking for the one. They are convinced that they only need or want one night with a women. That is until Lark sees Paisley.
Paisley is sweet, smart but a bit shy. She's not looking for the one but she can have a fun in the meantime. The pair have great chemistry and were a fun couple to read. With Lark's southern charm and her Italian roots, they put an interesting spin on their courtship.
The book had plenty of drama. Lark , Paisley along with his friends and her family have to deal with a lot of crazy. This couple learned to support each other and their friends through these times.
Being that this is the first in series we're introduced to a lot of characters. I'm hopeful we'll get their stories over the next few months.
I loved this story. I loved Paisley and Lark together. Their chemistry was awesome and I loved that the minute he saw her he was faithful to the end. Lots of awesome characters as well. This book has it all, love, chemistry, attraction, lust, and the sex scenes was awesome. But it also has some twists and turns and some OMG moments that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Definitely an awesome story and can't wait to read more of the other characters. Amazing job ladies
Okay I loved this book. I think this is going to make a great new series. A lot happened that I didn't expect or see coming. If you love a HEA and a romance with an actual storyline then check this one out. Can't wait to see who's book is next and get my hands on it!
Not often can you fall completely in love with every aspect of a book. After finishing "Last Call" I'll be the first one to admit I'm desperate to read Trip, Ripley, Sonia, and every single other character's story that was involved in this book. Aside from the main characters-Paisley and Lark, who are in a league of their own for my most favorite book couples, the authors have done quite an amazing job making sure that each character showed enough of their personalities to make me fall in love with them all. Trip, Ripley, and Lark were brothers while fighting overseas. They continue to be fixtures in each other's lives, as they all own a bar together- The Landing Strip. The three bachelors enjoy themselves-sometimes with the same girl. Lark and Trip's latest conquest, a bar fly that could very well be the downfall of them, sets the stage for an epic conflict. Lark is immediately drawn to a girl he first spots at the gym-Paisley Black. Paisley too, is interested, and the two begin a whirlwind romance. As they realize that two hearts so protected may be falling in love with each other, they too realize their pasts overlap. Secrets threaten to break Paisley and Lark a part-but what could really be their downfall is a crazy bar fly looking for attention. I loved Paisley and Lark. Lark was totally the quick witted, swoon worthy alpha that becomes weak at the knees when it comes to the girl of his dreams. Paisley isn't perfect-but she is to Lark. I loved Paisley's ability to joke, and take what she wants. I loved her Italian background, and how important family was to her. I hope we see some more books from her side of the family as well! (Trace!!!) not only were the characters amazing, but the writing kept he on the edge of my seat the whole time. It was the perfect mix of action, intimate moments between the two main characters, joking banter, and angst, that leaves me wanting to run and one click every book by these authors. A definite must read! I know you will fall hard for Lark and Paisley! - By Victoria
I haven't read a lot of books by Ms. Minton and Ms. Springfield but of the ones I've read this one is without a doubt my favorite one!! I was hooked from the very beginning. I fell asleep reading it last night and devoured it today! I absolutely couldn't put it down!!
Lark, he's dreamy, alpha, military, and a guy with a kind heart. Plus he has two amazing best friends Trip and Ripley. These three would do absolutely anything for each other and I love it! Enters Paisley one night at the gym and Lark is a goner from then on. Now Paisley, she's so sweet, a little shy, but has the kindest heart. She's been hurt but again she has a pretty awesome best friend in Sonia!
Paisley and Lark's love and story was amazing. It got me right in the heart and never let go. They will own a piece of my heart from here on out. I'm sad to have finished but when a love is as epic as there's is it ever really gone? I believe the answer to that is one big heck no!!! ❤️
Last Call by Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield. I have read every book by fabulous dynamic duo and I have loved every single one of them. Lark and Paisley’s book was no different. Lark owns a bar with his best friends / brothers in arms. The three of them share almost everything, a business and sometimes even an occasional woman. When Lark first sees Paisley, he knows immediately that she is different than all the others before her. And he wants her for himself. Paisley hasn't had the best of luck when it came to her past relationship. When she sees Lark, she knows that she wants to give him a chance but is scared to open her heart again. Agreeing to take their relationship slow, they get to know each other very well. Until something comes out that Lark failed to tell her. Will Paisley be able to forgive Lark, and will they be able to continue loving each other or is this going to be the end of them for good?
A perfect love at first sight story with a twist! Lark owns a bar, The Landing Strip, with his brothers. Closing the bar up one night turns a one night stand into a huge disaster. Burning off some steam at the gym, Lark meets Paisley and it's truly love at first sight. Paisley has been hurr in the past, making her cautious of a relationship with Lark. Giving in, she too falls hard and fast for Lark. But when Lark's one night stand is a person from Paisley's past, it has her questioning whether her heart or her mind is the one to follow. This had my heart dropping then stopping. I love Lark and Paisley but there is much more to this story and I'm hoping it comes soon. Ripley is a mystery, Tripp is just that, a trip, and Sonia is a wildcard. But this "family" is now growing and I can't wait for round 2!
This story pulled me in from the first page and kept me engrossed until the end. These two people meet, at the right time in life, and are perfect together. Add in their friends, her family, and it is an entertainingly good read. I loved these two characters! They were just so cute together. The sex scenes are quite hot between these two. They have to work out an issue or two to be together, but they figure it out and get their HEA. I enjoyed this world and its characters. I cannot wait to see who the other friends end up with.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book given to me by the authors in exchange for an honest review.
I just loved Last Call! An awesome story to start out a new series for this duo. Paisley and Lark have good chemistry and I just enjoyed their story for the get go. There are some twists and turns that I didn't expect, and it just gave me all the feels! I can't wait to read Trip and Ripely (Larks friends and co owners of the Landing Strip)
This ex-military turned bar owner would really make you look for your own Lark! He's such a swoon-worthy hero, and I'm pretty sure you'll agree with me there! And the story will reall keep you glued to your book, as soon as you opened it, it's just that good!
I want to read more of these brothers in arms, and I'm pretty sure their story will be as amazing as this one!
I really thought this would be a 5 or 4 star read when I first started it. I mean we have a hot alpha ex-military guy who owns a bar with his two best friends from the military. We have a decent girl who is still getting over being cheated on by her ex-fiance. Our H is loving, attentive, cooks her meals but comes across with enough strength to make you feel ok. They didn't fall in bed immediately. But the book went way off course with the crazy other woman,. Lark and his two buddies are man-ho's, but that's ok, they're all single, unattached and have women jumping all over them. But for some reason, we never find out exactly why, the ow decides that Lark is the father of her unborn child and begins to stalk him. It causes way too many problems and was totally distracting. The OTT drama with the supposed OW is so unbelievable it made the story just wilt. I mean, really, this mean, evil, woman actually had sex with over 5 men that were related to the h and caused so many break-ups, etc. The whole thing just became an unbelievable story. It had the potential to be a much better story. I'm truly being gracious by giving it 3 stars.
Here's another must read from Emily and Shelley. Last Call is the first of what I'm hoping the start of another addicting series by this duo.
Remy Shelton AKA Lark to the people closest to him has spent the last sixteen years in the military. He's out now and ready to start the next chapter of his life. Him and his two best friends Trip and Ripley are his brothers in arms and the only family he has they decide where to settle and open a bar called Last Call .
Lark doesn't do relationships. He's more of a get in and get out type of guy. He's never met a woman that was worth giving his heart or himself too. But, then he saw Paisley and everything changed and instantly. After one conversation with her he knew she wasn't just any girl. She was his and would do whatever he had too in order for her to realize it too. His main problem was there was somebody hell bent on that not happening.
Paisley Black has a great family. She'd been in love once and planned on marrying him. Until she found him in bed with one of her friends. That was three years ago and she has no plans on giving love a try again. That was until Lark showed up. He wouldn't take no for an answer. For the first time in her life he's made her feel something that she didn't know existed.
Paisley can't help but fall for Lark. She's very cautious with her heart since it was broken once. But, Lark is different then any man she's ever met before. Just as Paisley starts to give too much of heart away theres a blast from her past. Except its back in her present. Paisley would give anything to just run the opposite direction. But, thats not where Lark is and where Lark is, is the place Paisley wants to be.
Lark was somebody I thought I was gunna hate in the prologue. But, once I got started reading it was the total opposite. Lark is a real man. He's so loyal to those closest to him. So loyal he'd willingly stand in the ring of fire so his brother wouldn't have too. He's got the patience of a saint. His love for Paisley was clear and genuine from the start.
Paisley I loved from the start. She'd been hurt by those closest to her. I get why she guarded her heart and I'm not sure I could've waited that long to give love a chance. Paisley is smart, feisty, says whats on her mind and doesn't back down to nobody.
There was suspense in this romance. I was glad that it wasn't the typical instant-love read. Emily and Shelley wrote this with the perfect amount of suspense, romance and humor. There were times I questioned if I was Paisley would I stay with all the craziness that was being thrown her way and my answer was if Lark was my prize at the end I'd stay as long as I needed too. I'm looking forward to more of the guys from The Landing Strip.
The Last Call by Shelly Springfield and Emily Minton is the first in their new series, The Landing Strip. This series tells the story of three brothers in arms who have left the military and opened a bar together. First up is the story of Remy Shelton, Lark to his friends, and the woman that turns his life upside down.
After sixteen years of service, Lark and his two friends and brothers in arms, Trip and Ripley open a bar, Last Call. This is a new start for them and they are ready to move forward. Lark is not into relationships. He is more the one and done kind of guy. But when he meets Paisley, everything changes. He is determined to have her and something about her makes him want more than he ever wanted before.
Paisley Black believed in love and happily ever after, once, but after being hurt and betrayed, she is not ready to open her heart again. That is until she meets the very determined and strong-willed Lark. I liked Paisley. She was scared to get hurt, but she was also smart and lively.
I loved seeing Lark go after Paisley. His determination was so strong, he knew she was his. Paisley was more guarded, but she also knew Lark made her feel things she never did before. Could they find a way to move forward together or will they be pulled apart before they even have a chance to be together?
This was a sweet romance with a touch of suspense and humor to pull you right in. I loved the characters and the story flowed well. It kept me drawn in from beginning to end. I cannot wait to get Trip and Ripley’s stories!

*Carla's Five Star Review
Come one, come all, it's time to read Last Call!!
Being from the south, I am a sucker for a small town country boy, and, man oh man, did Lark Shelton ever fit that bill to a "T". He is the perfect combination of sexy alpha male and sweet southern gentleman. While he has the reputation of being a man whore, that all changes the moment he first sets eyes on Paisley Black He knows that she is the "one" for him but convincing her might not be so easy. Add to that the outside forces who are determined to keep them apart, and it becomes obvious that poor Lark has an uphill battle to fight. Can love really conquer all?
I freakin' loved this book! The story progresses at the perfect pace, and there is the perfect amount of angst. And the characters? They were awesome! Lark and Paisley were perfect for one another, and the chemistry they shared was off the charts! Then there are Lark's buddies, Trip and Ripley. They are hot as sin, and I can't wait to read more about them!
Awesome introduction to what I am sure is going to be another amazing series by my two favorite girls! Shelley and Emily, you girls rock!
WOW....LAST CALL....WHAT AN AMZING READ. I LOVED READING IT AND GETTING PULLED INTO THE STORY. I KEPT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. EACH CHAPTER HAD ME GUESSING WHAT WOULD BE NEXT. LARK ISNT NORMALLY A GUY WHO DOES RELATIONSHIPS, HES MORE ABOUT THE RELEASE!!! THAT IS UNTIL HE SEES PAISLEY AT THE GYM, AND THINGS CHANGE, QUICKLY. PAISLEY IS INTERESTED, BUT SOMETHING FROM HER PAST RELATIONSHIP HAS HER STANDOFFISH AT FIRST. POOR LARK HAS A SECRET HES KEEPING FROM PAISLEY, ONE HE SHOULD HAVE FESSED UP TO SOONER. WHEN IT ALL COMES TO A HEAD THEY WILL HAVE ALOT TO WORK THROUGH.
WHAT I LIKED WAS WE GOT TO MEET THE FRIENDS OF THE MAIN CHARACTERS, TO HELP SET UP THE REST OF THE BOOKS FOR THE SERIES.
THE STORYLINE FLOWED PERFECTLY.
WHEN LARK AND PAISLEY DID GET TOGETHER, IT WAS HOT AND EXPLOSIVE!!! IF I COULD FIND A MAN AS HOT AS LARK, FIERCE AND STRONG AND DEDICATED, COULD COOK LIKE NO OTHER.....AND BLOW MY MIND IN THE BEDROOM....ID LOCK THE DOOR AND NEVER LET HIM ESCAPE!!!!
EMILY AND SHELLEY HAVE A WAY WITH TELLING STORIES....AND I GUARANTEE THE REST OF THIS SERIES IS GONNA BE AMAZING.
Last Call is one of those books that you pick up and don't want to put down until your finished. It's sweet and sexy read with awesome characters. Three friends open a bar after retiring from the service. This is one of their stories.
After sixteen years in the service , with no family to return to, Lark opens a bar with his two best buddies. Never getting serious with woman he basically hits and quits them. Until one woman catches his eye things are never the same from him.
Paisley hasn't been in a serious relationship in three years. Not since she caught her ex in bed with one of her best friends. Not even really open to dating until one persistent man came into her life.
These two have insanely hot chemistry and I absolutely loved their story. Not only is it sexy, also throw some crazy in there. The authors did a fantastic job telling this story and I am hoping we get more from The Landing Strip.
Last Call by Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield is the first book in The Landing Strip Series. Remy "Lark" Shelton , is a 34 year old bar co-owner. Back from the military after many years, he opens a bar. Together with his brothers in arms Trips and Riley. Lark only does ONS. Until she comes along, Paisley Black, feisty yoga instructor and PA. One look at her and Lark knows he wants her, bad. They have this crazy insta-chemistry and sparks fly. Everything could be sunshine and roses, but no, oh no. There is more, much more, put a crazy stalker woman, threats and a baby in the mix and now the fun begins. Last Call is beautifully thought out, beautifully written and beautifully told. I love the characters and I love the story. And I really, really can´t wait to read Trip´s and Riley´s stories. I give 5 stars and thanks, Shelley Springfield and Emily Minton!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my gosh how I devoured this book. To say that I love Lark is an understatment. Being from the south he is written perfectly for the southern boy he is. Sometimes I just cringe when a southern boy in a book is written to sound absolutely stupid when he talks. Lark is perfection. He could be a southern boy from my small town , he is written so well. I equally loved Pasily who has been hurt so badly in the pastshe is like us all and doesn't want to have her heart broken again. Especially by the hot southern bar owner that is Lark. Mixed with just enough angst and some pretry darn steamy moments Last call is the perfect southern charm read of the summer.
Once again Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield have written a book thst you do not want to miss.
Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield did a great job on this story. The book was well written. It had a great story plot and great characters. I couldn't put this book down. It's a sweet sexy read with a twist. Lark is a strong, smart, sexy, protective, possessive man. Paisley is a sassy, smart, feisty, strong woman. Lark never wanted to settled down, but once Lark lays his eyes on Paisley he knew without a doubt she was it for him. Lark and Paisley are perfect together. They made a great pair. The chemistry between Lark and Paisley is off the charts hot and sexy. I really enjoyed this book. It's a great story. I recommend reading it. 5 Stars! Thank you, Emily Minton and Shelley Springfield. Great work :) Looking forward to reading the next book.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, and heartbreak.
This is Paisley and Lark’s story. After spending 16 years in the military he is starting a new chapter in his life. He and a few brothers in arms are opening a bar. This should be a huge change of pace but also keep them together. He is not into long term with woman only one-night stands. But what happens when you run into a woman who you might never want to let go can you change your ways or will you just let her go? Will you be able to fight for what you want? Or be able to let it go?
I loved these characters and the side characters. I felt I could connect with the characters and the story was a great read.
Lark co-owns a bar called The Landing Stripe. He isn’t really looking for anything in particular until his eyes land on a beautiful brown haired girl. Paisley is a beautiful girl just getting through life. She’s been burned by a man before so she really isn’t looking to date. But there is something about Lark that makes her say yes to his invitation for a date.
What can I say about Last Call? This book is amazing!! It was sexy. It was sweet. It was dramatic. It had a little bit of everything all in one story. I loved the characters, Lark and Paisley. They’re relationship really shows strength when it really comes down to it. It was refreshing to read about a solid relationship. Yes, they have they’re ups and downs but who doesn’t? Awesome storyline, awesome characters!! Can’t wait to see if this turns into a series.
Lark sees paisley for the first time at the gym and is automatically drawn to her. He can't get her out of his mind and chases her till she says yes to a date. He's not the dating type but will do anything to get to spend some time with her. Paisley has been burned before and is not looking to get hurt again but something about Lark draws her in. I loved this book. I really didn't want to put it down. Lark is a super sweet alpha male. I really hope there is a book coming for Trip and Ripley. Great job ladies!!
Man am I glad I signed up to read and review this book. I couldn't put this thing down. I may have even moved Lark Shelton into one of my top book boyfriend spots. This is the type of man every little girl dreams about. The perfect Prince charming.
I enjoyed this book immensely and I particularly loved the plot. While disliked one character in particular (once you read this you'll know who I'm talking about) I was a bit sad to see how it ended. I hope these authors continue write together and we get to see Lark and Paisley again.
Love, Love, Love this book!!! Again another great read from these two. I enjoyed seeing Lark and Paisley story be told, I did not want it to end. This book was amazing and kept me turning pages. I highly recommend reading this book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I really enjoyed this duo’s Grim Bastards series so was excited to see they’d started a new series, based on three brothers (of the military kind) who had opened a bar called The Landing Strip after retiring from the service.
Now, while I liked the characters; Trip and Ripley were both quite intriguing, Sonia has some serious sass going on and I thought Lark and Paisley worked well together, I just didn’t really get invested in their story. It had drama, sexy times and some big issues popping up, but this one just wasn’t my thing. I give Last Call 3.5 stars.
Emily and Shelley have done it again with Last Call! Lark and Paisley are an amazing couple! I was hooked in from the start and couldn't put it down once I started reading. There were a few twists that definitely held some shock value. All I can say for sure is I need more from this world! Whether it's more Lark and Paisley, Trip's story or Ripley's story, I don't care but I need more! These characters are awesome and a close, tight-knit group that you can't help but want everyone's story to end happy.
Last Call is a romantic book involving former soldier who started a bar with his friends from Army. Lark seemed to me at first like a very serious guy, but I was quickly proven wrong. He grew on me fast! Lark didn’t have it easy in life and we could see that throughout the book as well.
Enter Paisley, great combination of sweet and sexy. She was, I believe, opened about how badly her previous relationship ended and made her scare of starting any new relationship with Lark.
Let’s just say that the book was set in a fast pace. I don’t usually mind, I even welcome it compared to the slow-moving stories. I have to be honest though, I didn’t like the time loops. From my point of view, the authors didn’t just jump in time, but in Lark’s and Paisley’s relationship as well without properly explaining to readers what was going on. At times, the book had me wondering whether I missed a page or something.
What I did like, is the change in POV. In my opinion, it fit this book well to have it written in both Lark’s and Paisley’s POV. Also, probably my favorite thing about this book was the relationship between Lark, Trip and Ripley. Talk about a bromance!
This book offered some interesting plot twists. I don’t want to spoil it for you, but drama waits ahead if you decide to read this book!
