Jake Lucknow is just like any other fourteen—year—old boy, except for one thing — he is sick with cancer and is not expected to live through the summer. While spending time at the family cabin, Jake has a chance encounter with the area's most notorious resident and learns the secret to an old family mystery. Jake can't resist one last adventure at the lake. But he soon realizes that his quest is much more terrifying and dangerous than he had thought. . . and time is running out.
This book is special because the author’s daughter was the one who told me to read it. We were talking about reading and how much I read, and she told me I should read this book. So here I am.
The Gem Lakes was a delight to read. Reading the summary, I figured I was in for a lot of tears, but what I got instead was a lot of adventure, beautiful settings, and interesting geographical phenomenon. You could tell that at the beginning, Jake was a boy frustrated with the cards he had been dealt, and through his adventure, he found life again.
I’m excited to read the next book Rob wrote, and dive back into this world. I wish this book had been longer!
