Never judge a book by its cover. . . Xavier Preston is tall, dark, and handsome, and the problem is that he knows it. He's a bestselling author who is accustomed to adoring female fans, both young and old, flirting with him, throwing themselves shamelessly at him, and trying to get between more than the covers of his novels. He has always been more than willing to accommodate their needs and desires; however, his womanizing days have finally ended. He's engaged to a beautiful woman, Kendall, and he's decided to walk the straight and narrow. Or has he?
From outside appearances, the very stunning Pilar has it all: a great career, a beautiful home, and a trust fund that keeps her financially secure; however, looks can be deceiving. All that glitters isn't necessarily gold. Pilar is searching for her perfect soulmate, and she thinks she has found him in Xavier. She believes in going after what she wants with a vengeance . . . and she wants Xavier. That is not negotiable. She will have him, even if it kills him.
When Xavier meets his fanatical fan, Pilar, he gets much more than he bargained for. What starts out as an erotic one-night stand quickly spirals out of control into a dangerous game of obsession and pain with both parties playing to win.
Think you know what goes on behind the literary scene? Think again.
WOW. Pilar should not be roaming the streets of America without being escorted by a psychiatrist or a police officer! This book was a definite page turner. I couldn't put the book down, besides the fact that I had to go to work. I came across The Stalker Chronicles and upon reading the review I realized that its was a sequel to this book so I checked this one out at the local library. I'm not sure how I missed this book or having heard of it but I'm glad we crossed paths. Looking forward to the next chapter. I hope Xavier is able to gain control of his self and get Pilar in some locked down institution.
This book is basically urban fiction. Basically if you like Eric Jerome Dickey, Zane, and/or Noire, then you'll like this book. While I do like Zane to some extent, this book fell flat in places for me. I don't know if it's because I'm not a big fan of the urban fiction genre so a lot of what the characters thought or believed was hard for me to a) agree with or b) relate to. I don't know. I do love a good suspense/thriller, and this honestly did have its fast paced moments. However, I just can't rave about it. I can't rant about it either. It was a good read to some extent but not something I'd downright encourage someone to read unless they loved the urban fiction genre. Anyway, there were some parts of it honestly that I felt the author over did it, as in over dramatize it, or may have portrayed it either too simplistically or too on the surface of things. That is not to disregard or dismiss abuse in any kind of manner mind you. Let that be known. However, I did feel some of it was either kind of not explained the right way or just felt off to me, if that makes any kind of sense. In any case, no matter what it was, the believability went down for me. But other than that, it was an okay book I guess.
This was a random pick-up from the library. it sounded interesting. then i started reading it this morning on the way to work. i'm sorry to say, but the writing is like reading something a school kid would have written. It's just bad. It bothered me right away, I don't like the style or structure at all. I kept reading, since i wasn't at work yet, and it just went from bad writing to just raunchy. I don't mind swearing, sex, whatever in books, but this seemed to be in there just for effect. I didn't even get to the actual sex, but this book is what porn would be, written down. Not because of graphic sex but just because of the plot and the "acting", which in this case, is the choppy bad writing. I can't read the rest, so I'm just going to return it. Oh, and the storyline is an obsessed fan starts stalking a hot author, who does not want to date her. Might have been interesting if the writing had had any flow to it. Skip this one.
I just finish this book and all I could say was WOW! I didn't know how to feel through most off the book, I did think Damn Brandy from "A Thin Line Between Love and Hate" didn't have nothing on this chick. I call her Cookey, but when you find out why she is the way that she is your heart goes out to her. Now Mr. X need his a$$ kicked and that is what he get a little, cause he had a good woman and he was wrong as two left shoes to do her like that. Just cause he wasn't happy in the bedroom with her, I'm sure after that got married she could have became is nasty girl lol. In all the book was crazy, sexy, and off the damn hook. I'm a little off myself and oh girl had me lookin around outside, sorry I have issues lol. I am too nosey so I will be reading the sequle as well.
Title: Diary of a Stalker Author: Electa Rome Parks Rating: 5 Headline: A New Kind of Stalker
We have all heard of women that stalk athletes, musicians, and actors, but authors??? Electa Rome Parks has written a very disturbing yet entertaining piece of fiction in Diary of Stalker in which the main character, Pilar stalks a well-known author, Xavier Preston. After reading his latest novel, Pilar decides that no matter what she is going to meet Xavier. Pilar is a sexy woman so, true to form, Xavier sleeps with her.
From this moment on, Pilar believes that they are soul mates despite the fact that Xavier is engaged. Pilar begins to show up at all of his literary events, constantly emails him, and even relocates to his city. And, just when Xavier believes that he has gotten through to Pilar to leave him alone, she seems to vanish into the thin air. But, we all know the story can not end there.
Parks has written a fresh spin and perspective on stalkers as we can find a way to justify Pilar’s behavior. This was a quick and very entertaining read (one of my personal favorites of 2012 so far). The sequel, The Stalker Chronicles, is much anticipated.
I thought this might be an interesting read for my research on stalking. My goodness, I was wrong!
The first couple of pages were good and promised much but sad to say it ended there. I'd describe this book as porn. I'm not a prude and have no objection to well-written sex scenes and language that serves a purpose but this fiction contains neither. The sex is gratuitous, borderline violent and demeaning to the character of the fiancee. If I wanted to read that kind of stuff I'd pick a "Grey" book. The language is trashy and stereotypical African American and, even though I fit into neither category, frankly, it's quite insulting. The author gave me no sympathy for either the stalker or the stalkee and I felt that they completely deserved each other. Needless to say, I didn't give a damn about the outcome.
On a positive note, it's been useful research and an exercise on how not to write a novel about stalking but sadly, it's going straight into the recycle bin.
Ok...first...let me say, that I absolutely, positively can't STAND Xavier! Electa did an awesome job of making me dislike him. He's the kind of man that would ignore a girl like me until he found out I could do something for him, then he'd try to charm his way into me doing whatever for him. But, for a moment, I actually felt sorry for him. No one deserves to have a Pilar in their lives. Poor misguided souls! I didn't know who to side with at one point. Part of me was cheering for her (with her umm...crazy self!) but then I realized that was probably the wrong reaction! This book was a page turner to say the least. I read it in only a few hours. I can not wait to see what happens in the next book. The last page leaves you with your mouth hanging open.
Diary of a Stalker is about, well a stalker. Pilar is Xavier Preston’s number one fan. Xavier is a writer. After they hook up after a book signing, Pilar becomes obsessed. The book is told from Pilar and Xavier’s point of views. I really liked that and felt it brought more to the story. The writing was decent, there were parts in the story that were hard to follow. When Pilar and Xavier were emailing back and forth for instance, it was hard to tell one some emails who was from who. There were a few conversations that were like that also. Overall I enjoyed the book and plan to read the second one.
I picked this up thinking this sounds like a good book for my pick at our book club. Well I had to change my mind because it is to racy for the club but I enjoyed it.
This book is filled with graphic sex, violence, and some serious stalker issues. I was glad it wasn't a long book because I really wanted to see what was going to happen but I don't think I could have handled anymore "psycho" behavior. I would definitely recommend this book to those who can handle the subject manner and who don't get offended easily.
Wow. Pilar, Pilar, Pilar! She was as disturbed as they come. This tale is the modern day Fatal Attraction. Xavier just knew he was running things when he first met her but he slowly discovered that wasn't the case.
Lots of people ignore the signs of instability for a variety of reasons; in this case it was because Pilar's freak flag flew high and Xavier needed to conquer it.
I had figured out who Leeda was before it was revealed. Great read. No slow spots. Electa does not disappoint.
I read this book for my monthly book club, and was only mildly impressed. The book starts out slow, and it's not really well written. But, once you get a few chapters in, you want to know what this crazy chick will do next.
There is a sequel, which one of my friends said has a better plot and more charcter background. I'm going to get around to reading that, but it's not at the top of my list.
I read this book in one day. I couldn't put it down. Pilar was one crazy woman. I know I should hate Xavier but I don't. I felt sorry for the guy. Even though he was a dog and he admitted that, she was just too much. But I enjoyed the book and I would recommend it.
This book contains the word literally too many times for me to rate it any higher than one star. Bad writing, bad editing, and a horrifying scene I wish I could delete from my brain forever. Yikes.
One of the best books I have read in a good minute. Pilar is definitely bonofide crazy, not to be played with not even a little bit lol. But Xavier got exactly what a man that already has a girlfriend deserves and more men should be taught the very same lesson until they stop playing games thinking they got shit on lock, chasing booty like it’s a game and disposing of women like old trash until they run into a Pilar. A beautiful black successful woman with a shape that demands attention but in no way will she be discarded. Xavier thought shit was sweet, his game wasn’t tight enough, messing with a true psycho player like Pilar lol. To the ladies -stop giving theses men so much of yourselves that don’t deserve you, stop selling yourself short, playing yourselves, thinking your butts can get any man, cause some men will just have the cake and eat it. leaving you thirsty, Ladies Low self esteem leaves you weak and wide open for players like Xavier. Get your shit together, start loving yourselves more, stop exposing yourselves, Well written book Now I’m a fan, Xavier whens the next book signing lol
This book is amazing!! From beginning to end, the entire thing had me hooked. Let me just say.. PILAR IS MOST DEFINITELY CRAZY! Was feeling Xavier from the beginning. He's not perfect by any means but boy did his life take a turn for the worse the first time he ever hooked up with Pilar. Love how they incorporate him writing about his experience into a book, also by this same books name. This book definitely deserves all 5 stars. Definitely interested in reading more by Electa Rome Parks in the future. Worth the read!
Wow, purely intriguing, exceedingly dramatic, and violently phemonal writing techniques, styles, and concepts!!!!
Both Xavier and Pilar were created with numerous aspects of complexity and shocking discovery into their perspective personality. Each character life contributes to such an extraordinary, challenging, and shockingly twisted, unpredictable story. I was so unbelievably nervous and quite captivatined about the physical well-being and mental health of both individuals.
Let me just say DAMN I mean Pilar is a crazy bitch who LITERALLY did everything possible to destroy Xavier reputation and Xaver is a total ass and I was sooooooooooooo happy that his fiancee left him cause even tho the ass is married and he hates Pilar HE KEEPS COMING BACK TO HER LIKE, IF U DONT WANT HER IN UR LIFE STOP FUCKING HER 🙄
But anyway I loved this story and criticizing them is a proof cause if I love a story, I will live the story as if I was with them all along
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Plot is ok, all of the characters are annoying in their own way and the writing is lacking to say the least, in my opinion, redundant and dumbed down. I thought the characters over explained obvious statements within their conversation. It had me rolling my eyes so much and not only because of what was going on in the story, but because of how it was written.
When Xavier meets his fanatical fan, Pilar, he gets much more than he bargained for. What starts out as a one night stand quickly turns into dangerous games - (from back cover)
what is their to say except wow, the author diff captured the behavior of one down to a T i was expecting a different ending then i saw book their was a second book.
