This book can be summed up as two clueless women, a healer and a warrior, being abducted by dark elves. This all male race of dark elves force them into various sexual situations until they are impregnated by their “true mates.” It is a nonstop sex romp with an elvin race that was especially made by the Goddess Rhea to be sexual consorts. Although they are the perfect sexual companion, they lack the ability to reproduce females. So they abduct women and use magic to turn them into dark elf females and impregnate these stolen women who then birth dark elf males.
The plot does not make it clear why they need to abduct unwilling women. As many women from Earth would go willingly if these elf men just learned how to advertise their services correctly…. Instead this elf society kidnaps anything with the correct female anatomy from a very specific part of the woods and decides that it is okay to forcefully mate with them, one man at a time, until the women becomes pregnant. The impregnating of the woman signifies that she is the true mate of that particular elf. If no man impregnates her then she is sent to the concubine halls and forced to pleasure any male elf that is not already true mated.
The main character, Diana resists this fate at every turn, while her friend Gala suffers from instant Stockholm syndrome. Gala is so hooked on the prospect of an elf mate that she shames Diana for resisting and thinks nothing of leaving her family for this new exciting life. She even admits that if they had not succumbed to these dark elves, a similar fate would have overtaken them sooner or later. To make things weirder, the dark elves swear that they are so good at sex that they know exactly what women like, so it is never rape because they make sure the women are sexually willing. Basically they are considered the best sexual thing next to sliced bread, so no woman can really resist them.
The whole forced pregnancy thing and being passed around to multiple men until it happens seems very odd. A lot of these destined mates book think that happily ever after relationships are solidified with great sex and a family unit. There is little though behind the fact that if there is no birth control, every women would be barefoot and pregnant the vast majority of their lives. No matter how good the sex is, who would welcome that reality? Especially when you think of what happens to the offspring of these dark elves. How can every abducted women not only willingly become a broodmare but also a wife and caring mother? Although the plot tried to make it clear that after the initial spell these women were not hypnotized in any way, I did not believe it. For their society to thrive, every abducted women would have to get with the program and not resist. Therefore, a spell would be the fastest way to ensure continued compliance.
The best part about this story is the multiple perspectives and the initial lore behind the elf race of the raedjour. The worst thing about the story is the lack of believable romance and the continuous sex scenes that replace much needed character development. If there is more plot in these books I would not mind reading another one, as the sex alone does not make for a good book and gets boring after awhile.
