Although I appreciate what the author has done here, which is to provide behavioral strategies to maintain a reasonably clean home, I was left disappointed by some inaccurate information. For instance, the author recommends putting ice in a disposal "to sharpen the blades" (sorry, but this would dull them), olive oil for polishing (olive oil can go rancid on your wood!), and microfiber galore (scratches and removes finishes over time). A lot of information was repeated chapter to chapter too to the point I felt this whole book could have been distilled down to a large pamphlet. A less interesting, but more informative read on the topic is the Idiot's Guide to Green Cleaning.
Five star rating from me since I implemented her advice, and it worked very well and very quickly. This was back in January, and I only was doing 2 out of the 3 steps of her process. I'm looking forward to implementing all 3, since home care is my vocation now. I know the results will be amazing. But what's really amazing is how I never realized how much you can get done in so little time. It just takes some 100% focus over a small period of time (like 10-15 minutes). Another bonus of this book is that almost all the cleaning solutions are environment/animal friendly. The author's happiness (she is known as "The Happy Slob") come through in the writing, making this a pleasant read.
This book was okay. I wasn't a fan of constantly being referred to as a "happy slob". In all honesty, the only thing I took away from this book was homemade cleaning recipes and laundry stain removal alternatives.
Highly recommended for someone who has never been all that domestic, but wants to have a clean, welcoming, healthy home (and doesn't want to spend all his or her time making that happen).
