Jonas Hunter is a high-class body for hire with a small, exclusive, mostly male clientèle who pay big bucks for his undivided time and attention. Discretion is Jonas's middle name—he can play his role to the hilt for the client's benefit and at the same time disappear seamlessly into a crowd, safely anonymous.

He's persuaded to take on a new client who is everything he despises in a man: the effeminate, tantrum-throwing, attention-seeking bad boy of Paris haute couture named Nicky Bryant. Nicky's shows are outrageous and always good for a front cover, and his appearance never fails to turn heads. But Jonas soon learns Nicky is a carefully maintained façade himself.

As a fiery attraction grows, Jonas and Nicky have to find a way to walk the tightrope between their public and private personas. They'll need to learn to love and trust each other around the other people in their lives if they're going to share their hearts.

For the first 80 pages or so of this book, I was excited and interested. Unfortunately when the book skidded to a screeching halt with a jarring ménage (m/f/m) out of nowhere, it never could recover and took a turn for the worst. What starts as an intriguing and engaging story with fun, hot characters turns into a porn filled sex fest where casual sex rules the day and bisexual characters are seen as sex fiends. I not only wouldn’t recommend this book, I’d suggest you stay far away from it entirely. It only gets the score it does due to the start, which I rather liked, and the really appropriate and neat cover, not based on the book as a whole.

The story is loosely about Jonas, a male escort, and Nicky, a fashion designer, as they unexpectedly fall in love and navigate the potential pitfalls of a relationship where physical fidelity is impossible. Adding to this is the odd, ambiguous relationship of Nicky to Tanna and Jonas’ close relationships to his various clients.

Unfortunately there is very little plot. In between the numerous sex scenes that littered the book to the point I wanted to skip whole sections, there is very little purpose to the story. The men meet, have sex, eventually fall in love, then there are a few scenes about fashion, more sex, more fantasy and a happy ending with a big orgy. Considering this book comes in at almost 230 pages, it reads very much like one long sex filled fantasy after another with a few fashion asides offering nothing to the story or the characters. This is incredibly disappointing since the story is rife with possibility from the May/December age difference (Jonas is in his 40s versus Nicky in his early 20s), Jonas’ occupation, the fashion world, and their rocky romance but none of those issues are even included beyond a surface mention. There is no further discussion about Jonas’ job, his motivations, his desires and choices other than a vigorous sex drive. Jonas is very wooden and one-dimensional beyond his inexplicable love for Nicky and his desire to have sex with many different people.

The problem with Jonas is part of a larger issue with the characterizations in the novel. The bisexual woman, Tanna who is supposedly some unexplained partner of Nicky’s is described as sexually insatiable and willing to cheat on her girlfriend because bisexual women just “need some cock sometimes.” Tanna is willing to have sex with whomever as long as she gets at least her one orgasm a day. Not to mention this similar theme is used for the bisexual men in the book as well where Scott is unwilling to give up men sexually even as he wants to marry a woman. Bisexuality is apparently equated with the popular but ridiculous and frankly insulting theme of promiscuity - as if being bisexual means incapable of fidelity. This is repeated several times with various characters in between the rampant and unnecessary sex scenes. Other than determining the non-stop sexual appetites of all involved, there is very little depth and development to any of the characters. Beyond their desire to have sex often and with numerous people, these characters offer very little interest or engaging quality to their addition. None experience jealousy over the sex with multiple partners and almost everyone takes it for granted that sex with other people happens and is healthy, normal, and accepted without drama. Talk about your accepting husbands and wives.

Nicky starts as an interesting and engaging character with the idea of his façade of a flamboyant, outrageous designer hiding a scared, insecure, immature young man. Nicky is exposed to love and sex through Jonas and learns to ask and take what he wants and needs. Through this sex, Jonas and Nicky supposedly fall in love and work out a way to accept Jonas’ lifestyle as a sexual partner for hire. Although Nicky starts off with a bang and a lot of interest, he soon falls flat with inconsistent actions and no reason for his personality change. Nicky changes from a spoiled, over the top designer to an accepting, accommodating, and adoring partner solely through good sex with Jonas. This is handled very clumsily in attempting to show the facade versus the person underneath but the awkward transition and lack of characterization has this falling very flat. There is almost no depth to their relationship, which is again based entirely on frequent sex, and why either man would fall in love is an unsolved mystery. Additionally the age difference between the men that must play some role is never taken into consideration either thus begging the question of why the age difference is involved in the first place.

There are also several questionable sex scenes that may turn readers off and there should be a warning of some sort, as this book is very misleading. For starters there are several voyeurs scenes where the voyeurs are both men and women. Additionally there is a graphic ménage (m/f/m) scene and there is no indication anywhere – either the blurb or the excerpt – that this is included. Now this is not a “eww girl cooties” comment but there should be a warning and throwing in surprise ménage is not going to make a reader happy. When Jonas wakes up one morning to find Nicky fingering Tanna and thus leading to happy m/f/m ménage, readers should know this going in otherwise they will be disappointed. This should serve as a warning to those readers who dislike women in any sexual form in their m/m romance because this particular book is definitely not for the pure m/m reader. Imagine reading m/f romance and the hero suddenly has gay sex one morning with his best friend out of nowhere. But beyond these there are way too many gratuitous sex scenes that in no way further the meager plot or relationship. There is sex scene after sex scene between Jonas and Nicky, establishing they have a lot of sex. Then there are sex scenes of Jonas with his clients and sometimes with Nicky as a threesome. There is so much casual sex in this book, the concept of fidelity is almost a bad word. Additionally while attempting to show loving and happy relationships can co-exist alongside free spirited and profuse sex, the lack of depth and purpose is startling.

This book highlights the basic difference between erotic romance and porn. Here the sex scenes did not further the plot, the relationship, or the enjoyment of the book. The marked lack of connection and emotion between the various partners has this reading much more like porn and romance fans will ultimately be disappointed. I especially was disappointed and let down due to the interesting and engaging start which had me excited about the potential of the book. Unfortunately that potential not only wasn’t fulfilled but ruined and I am sorry I read this. I doubt I’d take a chance on the author again.

No matter how often they refuse, DSP still pisses me off when they refuse to disclose in the blurbs the sexual content of the story. Yeah so what, some people like to read about sex with women. NOT ME. That's not discrimination, adding labels to their books, it's just smart business practice. I've actually stopped buying some books because they seem like they might have m/m/f content. They could actually be making more money, plus, on books like this one, they wouldn't have several angry reviews about people feeling as if they were blindsided.

I was really looking forward to reading this, but not anymore. And yeah, they got my money for it, but it makes me even more displeased with them when something like this happens. Just doesn't seem smart for them in the long run.

Originally, I chose this book because I liked the cover. I read the blurb and thought it sounded good. Then I started reading.

The first 80 pages or so were promising. Jonas is essentially an aging "escort" (or so he calls himself), and Nicky is a young fashion designer. There is a lot of potential for a great romance story. But that's not what we got.

About halfway through the book there is a threesome, the kind with girl cooties. Now, I'm not opposed to m/f/m menage, but I like to know I'm going to be reading about it. When I pick up a m/m book, that's what I want to read. Not to mention this threesome sort of comes out of the blue, it feels a little weird and creepy and the book never recovers from there. After the threesome there is just a lot of sex with the main characters deciding that as long as they wear protection with everyone else they can bareback with each other.

There is so much unbelievable and contradictory crap happening that I could hardly stand it. Plus these two men are clearly incapable of really compromising to be together, neither one of them really makes a change during this book. No character growth, not even a nice journey of discovery. Jonas is a really flat character and we unfortunately see the whole book from his POV. Nicky is over the top but underdeveloped. The cover was great though.

This is the second book by this author I've read and I still don't like the writing. Don't know if I'll try another book.

Got two-thirds to three-quarters of the way through the book, and totally lost the thread of emotional investment I had in either one of the lead characters. I guess I should have known it would get wonky with a professional escort not willing to give up his clients, and a fashion designer who's _married_ to a bisexual nympho and not willing to give her up either.

I understand that relationships are rarely "cut and dry" and that life is, in reality, full of emotional entanglements and attachments. But the socio-cultural belief is so strongly ingrained, that when you find someone you can't NOT spend the rest of your life with, you're supposed to be willing to set aside your other attachments and entanglements to put them first. Isn't that the way it should be?
Oh well. Guess this one just wasn't what I was in the mood for.

I really can't rate this book as I stopped about 80 pages in. I stopped for several reasons - the main one being the completely unexpected introduction of a woman into the sex... No thank you - keep the girly parts out of my MM please!

Other than that the book had started annoying me a while back anyway. I was really intriuged by Nicky to start off. But he went from "don't turn on the light, just fuck me hard and leave" to this incredibly outgoing sex fiend, and I never understood how that change came about? Was Jonas' dick magic? Because I saw nothing else that could have explained this sudden spurt of character growth...

Also, I never found Jonas' emotional attraction believable either. He "cares too much" already from the very beginning, and that did just not make ANY sense to me. I didn't see it at all. But I was told it was so, and I hate that...

So no. I probably will not ever finish this. Because the moment the girl was introduced I lost the last tiny bit of interest in the story...

Eh... I remember this being better. But it was mostly odd and disappointing (and just smut). How about some actual emotional connection, hmmm?

I really like the "Pro and the young 'un" story line so I looked forward to reading this story, and in the beginning I was invested in Jonas and Nicky finding their HEA.

There are so many things that could've been done right here, this story was rife for high emotional drama. Anything to keep me hooked and on the edge of my seat, along with the sex. 'Cause lord knows I love me my sex scenes. But, and that's a huge, BUT, there needs to be a reason for it. Allow to me to count the ways in which this story was irrevocably FUBARRED.

It appears there's no way in hell body-for-hire Jonas can be friends with someone and not have sex with them. All righty. For some reason he's hopping into bed with everyone and their Momma, and not getting paid for it. Sure, if it's strictly for the Benjies I'm all with ya. We'd make that work. Many times Jonas reverted to acting like Nicky, the younger less-seasoned man: Jonas ex shows up and wants him back, so as soon as Nicky gives Jonas the cold shoulder he runs to the ex and does the do. Why? "My feelings were hurt."

Okay. That's cool.

There's absolutely no distance between Jonas the "Pro" and Jonas the man.

I'm one of those that don't want any fish in my m/nm reads and that m/f/m scene with Tanna threw me the hell off. Lost me. I mean no one bats an eye at this mess. It's just a freaky free-for-all up in there?

We get nothing about Jonas and his back-story, how did he end up being a "Pro?" Why? Any family? What about Nicky, is there no rational behind why he's such a spoiled man-child? 'Cause he's an artist/designer so it's expected? Why hire Jonas in the first place? What brought that decision on? What happened to both men in their pasts to make them the men they are? And why is it that Jonas can continue to sleep with other men even as he confesses his feelings for Nicky? He needs his own money and apparently despite the Villa here and apartment there, he hasn't siphoned any money off for a rainy day. Seems he intends to continue "working" until his death bed and not even love can change that.

I'm beyond disappointed that this story was reduced to what it was. Not much emotional range, no connection to the characters to speak of. All the un-warranted sex keeps me at a distance and unable to even feel anything for these people.

3.5 stars really.
I enjoyed it well enough, but it had nothing of the emotion or intimacy of Diplomacy
The blurb and even the first chapter led me to expect a good solid story about the development of the relationship and along the lines of Diplomacy I expected some insight into the fashion industry.
There was nothing in the blurb to indicate that there were going to be some menage scenes and voyeurism, and I think the suggestion of these was probably all that was really required for the plot line. I found myself skimming through a fair bit of the sex. Quelle horreur, perhaps I have had my lifetime quota. I hope not.
I could have come to like the protagonists I think, but I am left with the feeling that I have only had a look at a one dimensional perspective of them.

I like the setup from the blurb, sort of Beauty and the Beast set in the world of high fashion. But Nicky's transformation and Jonas's understanding of why Nicky behaves the way he does come way too soon, and after that the book switches gears to become a manifesto for nonconventional sex. I like that Jonas doesn't give up his job and that the two men adhere to their own principles for sexual morality - which aren't the same ones your mama taught you. It's important that all sexualities are represented in romance and erotica, and if Jonas and Nicky can make their style work for them, that's great. I'd just liked to have not gotten there quite so quickly, so that the facade for which the book is named had been peeled away more slowly, with a little more conflict and sexual tension along the way.

Well.....that was different! I think this was probably an early work, I hope it was because it wasn't brilliant.
The plot is weak to say the least, practically non-existent actually. Characters, whilst interesting, are the archetypical "Odd Couple"....I could not believe they fell for one another. The sex! OMG! The sex! The second half reads like an exercise in how to write kinky sex. This is one sex session after the other, and they go on and on and on and on and on and on and on......I was totally sexed out by the end of this novel!
So saying, I actually enjoyed the writing? Ms Owens writes beautifully but this story needed a plot and three dimensional characters....and a lot less sex.
Porn for the sake of porn, 2.5/3 stars.

Had to stop reading when it went from a m/m possible romance to a m/f/m sex scene with the female being married to one of the males. Not hot to me and it ruined the story for me. I had thought there was a chance for love for these two guys until that part came up. Now I don't care if they would have gotten together permanently or not.

I do have to say my disappointment with this book is because I bought it on sale at the publisher's site and didn't read the reviews for it here at goodreads first. If I had, I'd never had bought it. I'm not into m/f/m books, only m/m books or m/m/m books.

Read this the entire way through. The first half of the book was good, the second half not so much. It might be worth it to just read the book to the half way point and then stop. Surprise het, so be warned. I certainly wasn't. There is also polyamory that borders on infidelity, which I did not enjoy. All of this takes place in the second half (or so) of the book; as stated, any rereads I do will be limited to the first half of the book.

I'm intrigued by how many readers here were put off when the book moved from M/M to M/M/F. I can't say that phased me particularly, but the book did not bowl me over either. The writing felt a bit flat, the insistence on "the older man" and the tantrum wielding brilliant artist grew thin after a while. I can't say this is a genre I read often, and I did enjoy certain aspects, but I'm not sure I'd need to read more.

this was the best book I have read by Owens, much more intelligent than others. I found the characters relatable and charming. I especially love that the author gives just enough description of the MC's that the reader can imagine a mental picture, but she leaves out the specific physical characteristics of them and lets the reader's mind fill in the blanks.

There aren't many books which make me feel like the author is describing the way of life in a glamorous industry, in this case high fashion. And not just envying. This is one of those descriptive-not-envious books.

I'm glad I read into the synopsis of this story beforehand, I wasn't surprised they continued on a open relationship. Seems Jonas ain't that ready for monogamy and Nicky's not ready to open his heart fully no matter what or how Jonas thinks he's got an understanding lover in Nicky.

One of the worst!

This is a man-boy love story with a completely unbelievable plot (such as it is). Not worth the purchase price, and the provided story outline is misleading. Such stories come from a disturbed mind, IMO.

Неплохая книга, но как-то все лубочно. Хотя секс сцены неплохие, гл.герои в поведении особого идиотизма не проявляют. Неглубокое, но вполне развлекательное чтение на пару вечеров.
