Rachel and Kirsty return on holiday to Rainspell Island. They are shocked by how much litter there is on the beach and enlist the help of the fairies to help clean up the environment and learn more about environmentally friendly practices. The Green Fairies are: Nicole the Beach Fairy, Isabella the Air Fairy, Edie the Garden Fairy, Coral the Reef Fairy, Lily the Rainforest Fairy, Milly the River Fairy and Carrie the Snow Cap Fairy.

The fairies must be in a dream,
If they think they can be called 'green'.
My goblin servants are definitely greenest,
And I, of course, am by far the meanest.
Seven fairies out to save the Earth?
This idea fills with full of mirth.
I'm sure the world, has had enough
Of fairy magic and all that stuff.
So I'm going to steal the fairies' wands,
And send them into human lands.
The fairies will think all is lost,
Defeated again, by me, Jack Frost!

Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Daisy Meadows and her fairies are my childhood. I collected so many in my youth, knowing all the fairies and their importance, and sticking with the two special girls who go to be a part of the magic.
Years ago I had to give my beautiful collection away, now still part of my childhood school where little girls are picking their favourite fairies and playing pretend. It's fun to hear stories from my old teachers telling me how over the years so many students have grabbed these books and fallen in love with the tales of two girls, Jack Frost and the fabulous glittering magic that is the fairies.
On Christmas last year, my sister surprised me with a boxset of these books, but cause you cannot collect these darlings as easily anymore. I was over the moon!
If anyone has a little one who needs a little magic in their life, wants to read and needs a big creation to be hooked on...it is Daisy Meadows!

Daisy Meadows writing is incredible. The way she describes the scene without over exaggeration and the structure in her books is always constant.Even though her writing is practically flawless, there are some flaws in the book like how you need to read the book before to know the backstory and how there is to much forshadowing so you know what happens next.Personally, I think in the middle of the book the suspense falls flat so you know what gonna happen but most of the suspense is created at the end.

It’s about two girls named Kirsty and Rachel helping Coral. Coral is a fairy who loves coral reefs but Jack Frost stole Coral’s wand! My favorite part of this book is when Coral gets her wand back because it was a very happy ending to me.

I’ve been reading these books with my 6 year old daughter - while I’m not the ideal reader for them, my daughter is and she LOVES them so much!

My daughter picked this up from the library and asked me to read it. It was a cute story. We realized it was the middle of the series though so we might try to find the first book.

Summary: "Coral The Reef Fairy”, one entry in the Rainbow Magic series, tells the story of Kirsty and Rachel as they help Coral protect the reef against the three goblins that have stolen her magic wand. As they search for the goblins, they learn about how climate change is affecting the oceans which in turn destroys the reefs, as well as how careless boaters and swimmers can harm the reef by not being careful. When they find the goblins, they are also being careless, accidentally kicking the reef as they swim and play. Before the girls can get the wand back, the goblins escape. Later the girls find them again, and this time trick them into thinking they are going to be harmed by magic jellyfish in order to make them drop the wand. Once Coral get her wand back, she is able to protect the reef once again. Kirsty and Rachel return to the beach and resolve to spread the word about saving the oceans.

Characteristics That Support the Genre: This book includes many aspects of fantasy fiction, including fairies and fairy dust, goblins, and many forms of magic that Coral and the girls use to help them get the best of the goblins.

Mentor Writing Traits: (1) Idea – The environmental topics reflected in this book, such as climate change and habitat destruction, are important for children to understand. (2) Conventions – The text reflects proper writing conventions and grammar for students to observe.

Classroom Integration: This would be a wonderful, lighthearted book to begin to delve into environmental topics with younger students, in order to have them write about ways to help the environment. Similarly, this book could be used to spark grand conversations about what the students like about nature and what they might do to protect it.

Other Suggestions: I would suggest this book as being appropriate for readers in approximately fourth grade. As an additional idea for integration in the classroom, this book could be used as a mentor text for proper writing conventions, especially related to appropriately written dialogue.
