Charles Ray authored a number of books about Spurgeon, including The Life of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1903), Mrs C. H. Spurgeon (1903) and A Marvellous Minstry: The Story of C. H. Spurgeon s Sermons 1855-1905 (1905). His biography of Mrs Spurgeon is included, with her collection of morning devotions A Carillon of Bells , in the Trust s publication Susannah Spurgeon: Free Grace and Dying Love.
Mrs, C. H. Spurgeon was an exemplary example of a woman that didn’t just talk about her faith in the LORD JESUS CHRIST, but lived it out every day. She was a remarkable woman with a husband constantly in the public eye and was such a helpmate to him. On several occasions he stated that she provided support through prayers and encouragement to him. I highly recommend this book to all Christians and especially to the wives of those called in the ministry.
As with C.S. Lewis, I am never surprised to read about the remarkable wives of distinguished men. Susannah Spurgeon is one such woman. Her devotion to the Lord, to her husband and children, and to the causes about which she was so passionate, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Her relationship with her husband is enchanting and all the more beautiful because it was completely rooted in their mutual desire to serve the Lord in every way they could. Though I am thoroughly content to serve the Lord unto death as a single woman, I could only hope that were I to be married, it would be of such a nature as theirs. It is such a testament to the grace of God what the Gospel can do to the hearts of men and women, and even more so when the two become one with themselves while also striving for such a unity with the Lord (#relationshipgoals). Anyway, Susannah brought many a thing to the table, and, dare I say, I do not think Charles Spurgeon would be half the man he became without her. Though God could have made it so, I believe her husband would agree with me about that. What a woman!
A short and sweet book on the life and accomplishments of Susannah Spurgeon… her exemplary faith and joy in the Lord as well as her devotion and respect to her husband was convicting. A friend gave me this book to read as my husband has recently entered a role of preaching and I’m appreciative of her thoughtfulness and of this books nuggets of encouragement and wisdom to ponder.
A really neat book to read. It was interesting to get a different point of view on CH Spurgeon (what a sweet pair of love birds!) along with his wife. Very inspiring and encouraging to read about the different ministries Mrs. Spurgeon herself was involved in.
A bio of the wife of famous 19th century British preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon and her part/involvement in the ministry of the Metropolitan Tabernacle. Great inspirational reading for the ladies.
