Tales of Pixie Hollow #18

Lily in Full Bloom

Rate this book
This blooming good story is the 18th book in our popular Disney Fairies chapter book series, which features Tinker Bell's adventures in Never Land with her fairy friends.

Lily has always thought of herself as a garden-talent fairy first and foremost. But after Tink challenges the other talents to think up new ideas, Lily discovers she's pretty good at inventing things, too, like her new flowers, the panglories. They grow anywhere—in dirt, on wood, even on rocks! But then little gray spots pop up, first on the panglories, then on other flowers, until all the plants in Pixie Hollow start losing their colors. Can Lily invent a way out of this new fix?

In this Disney Fairy book, we get to circle back to one of our earliest characters, Lily, for an all-new adventure. The garden-talent focused books are always fun because the flowers are just so beautiful! But I really liked how this book showcased how what the garden talents do impact many of the other talents. This story really showcased the interdependence of the fairy community in a beautiful way.

Pixie Hollow is all aflutter in the wake of Tinker Bell's most recent invention. The beloved fairy inadvertently challenges the other talents to create their own inventions, and all the fairies and sparrow men are obsessed with this new game. On one hand, I kind of sympathized with Tink. Her talent was sort of reduced to "everyone/anyone can do what you do" in this story. Even by the end, Tink ends up admitting that the other talents have great ideas - which is great! Everyone does have great ideas, no matter their talent. But the literal structure of this world is that tinkers are problem solvers, inventors, fixers. So I could relate to how Tinker Bell felt less because of everyone insisting that they could do her whole identity better than her.

Other fairies did come up with cool ideas to help serve their talents, which is amazing. They know and understand their own talents uniquely and I love the idea of finding ways to specifically serve within your skillset and passion - definitely a great conversation starter for the kids! But I did think it would have been cool if things had fallen apart even just a little because fairies were neglecting their talents in the name of trying to invent something new.

Instead, we get a really fun mystery! Lily's heart is beautiful. She cares deeply for her garden, her flowers, and for all of Pixie Hollow. She shows remorse when her tinkering causes issues that impact others, and she also cares more about doing things well, good, and right than about the competition and prestige itself. (Again, great fodder for cool conversations with kids.) And in the end, there's a clever little twist to explain what's really going on.

This may be one of my favorites! Sweet characters, beautiful illustrations, and a heartwarming story!

A fun story with a little bit of mystery. The illustrations were particularly beautiful in this one :)

This book is probably the most weakest entry in the Disney Fairies series — deserving 2½ stars. Sure, this was written for children. But even the most simplest & legendary children’s books are more enthralling than this. The writing is too simplistic and the dialogue is crazy boring.

Without spoilers, let me give you the gist: The story begins with Lily wondering what would grow in her garden’s small patch of sandy soil. At breakfast, all the fairies marvel at TinkerBell’s newest invention. And with Tink being Tink, she declares that tinker talents (like herself) are the only ones who know how to invent creatively. This causes all of Pixie Hallow to prove her wrong.

One Star for making me wonder about the “mysterious little gray dots” — otherwise, I would have put this book down.

Another Star for the parts in the book that describe Lily’s work ethic and creativity in creating a new breed of flowers.

½ a star for the lame ending & making my eyes droop with sleepiness!

There are better Disney Fairies books out there that are better than this.
*I don’t have the heart to give this Goodreads rating a full 3 stars.

I had a rough time getting into this one, but it was loved just as much as the others by the end! Tink ends shoving a slipper in her mouth when she accidentally offends and challenges the other fairies to invent something from their talents that are as useful to every fairy as the things the Tinkers invent. This leads to Lily creating a brand new flower that will grow anywhere - all the fairies love it! But then, all the flowers in Pixie Hollow start developing gray spots and fading out, and it even spreads to the home tree!

It was from this book that I learned the importance of writing things down while experimenting.

Rosetta knew that Tink hadn’t meant to say it like that, in a way that disparaged other people’s talents
Tink is so me core
The fairies are so sweet. Friendship

There’s a sewing talent named Taylor that’s fantastic

Iris you haven’t watered the home tree in so long I took over your timeslot lol

Iris is an icon honestly love her
Problematic icon lol.

I don’t understand how adding a few spices from the kitchen makes flowers magically able to grow anywhere, but oh well.

I feel like I always talk about everything except the actual main plot of these books, lol.

As a gardener, the invention in this novel sounded like an invasive species that would soon become a problem. I like that they didn’t go that route and came up with something more imaginative. I’m also surprised I didn’t figure out what was happening until fairly late in the novel.

A fun book with good stakes.

This was an interesting tale for pixie hollow, the inventions that fairies came up with were brilliant and the problem was hilarious. Lilly found the perfect flower, but the accident was hilarious to see. This was a brilliant and fantastic read, very enjoyable.

Lily made some seeds - first you take some sunflower seeds and then you mix them in water. That's what you need to make panglories. Panglories are purple, red, yellow, and pink. Lily invented them. Soon she dropped a bottle of dusting cleaner in the well and all the plants and even Pixie Hollow, the fairy's Home Tree, turned grey. They all got sad because the artist fairies needed more paint which comes froms orange flowers. When they came to Lily inside her cabin with grey flowers all over it (who was thinking of her panglories and what happened - she was sad that her panglories turned grey - even the dazzling pinks turned into grey. She didn't like it, but it happened.), they asked her for some orange flowers and she said she was sorry but didn't have any.

She looked at all the rooms at Pixie Hollow. The bakers needed more flowers to make blue icing for their cupcakes, so then she looked at the artist fairies, they were still needing more colors, then she found a top branch of the tree and noticed that the tree was turning grey. Soon she realized the switch up and realized that the water fairies needed to clean out the well so the plant would turn back to color, mystery solved! The End.

I thought it was funny how they got the cleaning and flowers mixed up and so the flowers turned grey and the blankets that they cleaned got flowers on them!

Nothing special in the way of literature, but perfectly enjoyable and readable. Cast is entirely female and multicultural. I should look into getting this series for my students.
