Stubborn, lethal, and from Jersey…what more could a Viking warrior want from his woman?

Neecy Lawrence, winged warrior for a Viking goddess and second-in-command of the fierce Crows, doesn’t know what to do with a nice guy. As it is, making up for a past she’d sooner forget leaves her barely polite most days. But Raven leader and loyal Odin warrior, Will Yager, isn’t just nice. He’s gorgeous, hot, and a distraction she simply can’t afford.

Yager has wanted Neecy in his life—and in his bed—for a long time. Not just for a night, but forever. And, like any self-respecting Viking, he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants. So what if she’s the most difficult, complex, never-gives-him-a-break woman he’s ever known? She’s more than worth the effort. In fact, she’s worth everything.

And if it turns out that twenty-four hours of non-stop, any-way-she-wants-it sex doesn’t work with Neecy? Then it looks like he’ll just have to get a little more creative…

This was not a good book for me from this followed author. It was a slow start, the first 50% dragged. The second half picked up and was a lit more lively but I just couldn't connect with the characters or with was happening. The pairing of this couple, a Raven and Crow, I never got it, why did he want her so ? Yeh the author told me why but I never felt it. That lose of connection with the characters just left it flat and meh for me. I am moving on with the series beacuse i know this author and adore her stories, usually. :D

Can't help it, each time I read this I like it more. 5 stars

June, 2nd:
I have to adjust my rating a little bit ... I was looking for a comfort read the day before yesterday and look what I got: I read Hunting season again ... so, when a book is good enough for a comfort read it has to be a keeper, right?!
(and I really loved the wings :-) )

so, instead of 3,5 stars it gets 4 stars from me .. and here my original review:

I started this book because the description sounded really interesting and I love mythology. there is a lot of hot scenes in there and normally I really like that but this was a lot. I wished for the plot to go on and somehow the action did not start .... at least till past the first half.

I was also slightly annoyed with the many different point of views which were thrown in there ... I think this was meant to get the reader interested in the other characters so that you want to read the next book (which didn't come out till now) but nevertheless it was a bit too much.

I likede Neece who was a strong but scarred character but I had some troubles with Yager. Yes, he is really hot and dedicated and it was clear that Neece really meant a lot to him but for me his dedication seemed a bit like whining.

Nevertheless it was a nice read and there were some scenes in there where I really had to laugh out loud - so for the first half only 3 stars and for the end (even if I would have liked the action to be a bit more prominent) 4 stars. I am waiting for the next book, which hopefully will come out and hope it is about Tye and Janelle, because I really liked those two

The last of my super February Laurenston marathon.

This book was something of a departure from her other paranormals. It still has the unmistakable Laurenston dual stamps of outrageous humor and sexiness. But instead of focusing on shifters this one borrows from a different mythology altogether.

Using Norse mythology as the background, the main characters are the Ravens of the God Odin and the Crows of the goddess Skuld. By day they look and act like regular people, who hold down regular jobs. But as needed, become winged avengers for their God. The Ravens are always male and usually plucked in childhood from their homes to serve as Odin's warriors. The Crows are altogether different. They are women who die and upon their death are offered a second chance at life as the winged warrior women of the Goddess Skuld.

Each set work together often to enact swift justice and/or punishment to transgressors against their Gods.

Neecy Lawrence is a crow. Her first life was a harrowing one. Found as a child in an alley in Harlem, she moved from a succession of foster homes until she finally hooked up a gang and became a gangbanger and drug dealer. She was shot to death after trying to leave her earlier life of crime to do something better. After accepting Skuld's offer of a second life, Neecy is the fiercest of the crows.

Wilhelm Yaeger is one of Odin's Ravens. He has long had a thing for Neecy and is finally making his move. However she is proving to be a bit difficult. She is always all business and really doesn't want to get involved.

However, there is a hunt in progress. An unknown group of assassins who are sent purposely to hunt down and decimate the crows. Neecy is determined to find out who the hunters are and eradicate them. Wilhelm is determined to make sure nothing happens to Neecy.

While the love story between Neecy and Yaeger was both sweet and hot, I must say what I really liked the best about this story was backdrop and the world building. It is nice to get something a bit different from the vamps and werewolves. It was interesting to read about the different warrior sects, how they were organized etc. I also like how she dealt with the issue of the wings for the Crows and the Ravens. When they weren't necessary, they retracted into the skin under a ridge of scar-like tissue. There were other nice touches that harken back to traditional Norse mythology with lots of references to the Valkyries and Valhalla.

Like her Pack & Pride series, Laurenston liberally populates her books with all ethnicities. There is a running joke that while Odin only plucks his Ravens from the Whitest of Nordic stock, Skuld's Crows look like a 'damned crayon box'.

Great book. Feels like the first in a series. I hope so.

This books is vulgar and fun!

Neecy Lawrence is a Crow. Crows are women who are murdered and given a second chance by being brought back to life by the Viking goddess Skuld. They are called The Gathering. The Crows chase, capture, (and usually) kill people who commit crimes against the Viking gods and goddesses (steal magical runes, etc).

Will Yager is a Raven. Ravens are descendants from the original protectors and warriors of the Viking god Odin.

Usually the Crows and the Ravens don’t mix and mingle but Will has only one thing on his mind, Neecy Lawrence.

I loved this book because it’s fun and silly and it doesn’t take itself too seriously. But that’s not to say the writing is bad or the plot is not well formed. This is a well written book with a good plot and well fleshed out characters. I enjoyed the relationship between Neecy and Will. One of the other things I really enjoyed about this book is that the book is an interracial romance but the author didn’t make a big deal out of it. The characters were who the characters were. The issues that the characters had in their relationship (one of Neecy’s hang ups was because she was an orphan and had become a small time hood prior to her death) was based on real things that had happened in their past or their present – it was never about the color of their skin or how much money they had.

This is book 1 of a series so I’m letting it slide that there are a few plot threads that were not tied up.

Four Stars!

**Note** The author has no intention of completing this series at this time. To the breaking of my heart. The idea of this series has been re-booted with a new storyline, new characters and major revisions to the worldbuilding. The new series is named Call of Crows and starts with The Unleashing.

I loved this book, it had the perfect combination of humour, romance, sex, violence and bitchy female frienships that I adore. If you are a fan of SL other works then you will definately enjoy this and if you have never read anything by her, then this is a good place to start! I am really hoping that she writes more in this series soon as I absoloutley love it!

Here are some quotes that I really loved from this book to try and induce others to read it!

He looked at Mike Molinski, who had somehow become the baby brother he never had…and started to realize, he never wanted.

Lowering the bottle of water, she slowly licked her lips.
“Uh…Lawrence? My eyes are up here.”
“So?”
Yager laughed. “God, I love your honesty.”
Well, why bother lying? When a man sports a cock that big and it was all yours for the next twenty-three hours, why waste time with bullshit?

“Aren’t you hungry, baby?”
“This is another one of those trick questions, isn’t it?”
He grinned as he fought with her to pull the covers back. He always knew he’d enjoy tusslin’ with Neecy Lawrence. “Don’t be ridiculous.” He snatched the covers out of her hands. “Besides, what else could I mean when I say, ‘So, do you like protein in your diet?’”
“I thought you were talking about that diet where you only eat meat.”
Laughing, he slipped his arms under her neck and legs, easily lifting her off the bed. “In a way…I was.”

“I’m not finicky about food.” She snagged a piece of barbeque pork and popped it into her mouth. “Especially when I’m actually allowed to eat.”
“Don’t give me that look. I gave you time for lunch.”
“Letting me eat soup while you lick me out is not really conducive to getting in a full meal.”
“But it was chicken noodle. It had everything necessary to get back to sex.”

“Every time you take down some scumbag. Every time you try to make Arri feel welcome and stop Janelle and Mike from fighting. Or when you go out of your way not to show Tye when he’s completely freaked you out. And every time you smile. Every time, Neecy Lawrence, you bring me joy.”

With her tucked into his big arms, Yager moved easily to the enormous bathroom. Carefully he lowered her onto the toilet. Then he stood back and stared at her.
“Well…go on,” he pushed.
Her mouth dropped open in shock, but she quickly recovered. “Have you lost your mind? Get out.”
“Come on, Neecy. Aren’t we past this?”
The last of her control snapped. “Out!”
Chuckling, “Okay. Okay. I’m going.” He stepped to the doorway. “And, you know, you can do whatever you need to in here. You don’t have to keep it to peeing.”
“Yager!”
He laughed a little louder and walked out, closing the door behind him.

“One night, me, Tye, and Mike got really drunk and named our cocks.”
Neecy studied him before asking, “Excuse me?”
“We named them. We were really drunk.”
He saw a smile tug at the corner of her lips. “And what, exactly, did you name them?”
Well, this was awkward. “Mike’s was Mr. Lovespussy.”
“Of course.”
“Tye’s was Dangerous Dan.”
“I’m not even going to ask why. And yours?”
He scratched the back of his head. “Remember. We were really drunk.”
“Cough it up, Yager.”
With a shrug, “Master and Commander.”
When the laughing got so bad she started wheezing, the birds flew back out the window they came in.

And there are many more in the book : )

I read half the book and stopped. I couldn’t get interested.

WHAT IT’S ABOUT:
Crows: When women die the Viking goddess Skuld brings them back to life. She gives them wings and fighting skills. Ravens: Males are born not made. At puberty wings appear. They do things for the Viking god Odin. Every once in a while Hunters come along who want runes or magic things that the Crows have. I don’t know why the Crows have runes. In one scene Hunters open a door to hell that the Crows need to close. It’s done with a quick spell.

Yager is a hunky Raven who has always been drawn to Neecy (a Crow). She has sex with him but does not want a relationship.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
The sex scenes were ok but not enough to make me want to read the rest. Not enough world building. Mediocre plot.

There’s no emotional development. It is current day characters fighting bad guys – not how they grow, change, or get skills. Something like the following was not done but could have made it better. Show a woman dying, the process of becoming a Crow, her feelings and words during the process, and then her feelings and what happens as she discovers her abilities. Show how her motivations change from being a drug dealer to a loyal warrior for a god. Add conversations with the gods and goddesses. Show the gods’ motivations. Instead, someone says Skuld wants us to do this. The Crows fly on patrols looking for bad guys to fight. Who are these bad guys? What are their stories? Why no cops involved?

DATA:
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Story length: 259 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 6 in the first half. Setting: current day New Jersey and New York. Copyright: 2009. Genre: erotic paranormal romance.

I have to say that at times I wanted to slap Neecy in the face, but when she came around I loved her lol. I would recommend this book to anyone who has read a Shelly Laurenston book. You would not be disappointed!!!! And I have a feeling Arri and Mike are going to be together, well I hope they are!!!

Yager made this book for me. I loved how smitten he was of Neecy, and that he never gave up his pursuit of her. This is exactly what I love to find in a hero.

The reason I got to see him be this way, was also the reason I struggled with Neecy. She resisted way too much for way too long. Sadly it’s my only complaint but it was bigger than what I could ignore. I actually really liked her despite that.

This also had some really great side characters that brought a lot of humor to the book. It’s silly h7mor and sometimes juvenile humor, but I liked it. I will definitely be reading more in this series. I just really hope the resistance is tad bit less.

9/10 - I'm going into this with a little bit of trepidation as, if you have been following my trials and tribulations with Laurenston's Pride series you'll understand when I say, I'm a little nervous of not being able to connect with the characters or feel their connection with each other. To be continued...

13/10 - I would put this at pretty good, reasonable, and above average, a solid 3.5. Better than a number of her Pride series books. I was able to connect with both characters better than I have with many of the characters from her previous books, and I felt the love connection, at least from Yager's POV.

Hunting Season was set in the same world as both her shifter series and so there was plenty of the expected craziness, name calling and truly horrible behaviour (especially between the women), and highly erotic sex scenes. A few shifters even made a cameo, but I didn't recognise any of the names (I haven't read all of either shifter series, so my lack of recognition doesn't mean some of those characters haven't made an appearance in the world before, just that I haven't read their book, yet).

There were clear openings for other books in the series. Janelle and Tye, and Arri and Mike seemed obvious couples who will get their own books. At the moment I would definitely continue reading this series, over her Pride series in fact, and I was surprised, considering when this was written, that there have been no sequels yet.

Laurentson is my new favorite author. This book was definitely not like others I've read. It's about the Crows (women sworn to the Viking goddess Skuld) and the Ravens (men sworn to the Viking god Odin).

They uphold the will of the gods and do their best to rid the world of evil, yadda yadda.

Second in command of the Crows is Neecy. She's a bad ass chick who is doing her best to stay away from the leader of the Raven's Will. Too bad he wants nothing more than to stay in her path.

As those two are fighting it out amongst eachother, another god has decided to declare open hunting season on the crows, and there is one in particular that this new god wants. The crows and ravens must work together to help defeat this new enemy.

I think what I like most about Laurenston's books is her strong female characters. This book was definitely full of strong females, although some things were bordering on annoying at points. Like the constant use of the words, "bitches" "c8nts" etc...

Also, the heroine was a little annoying with all her protesting of the relationship. Other than those two minor details I would have given this book a 5. I thought it was an intriguing story line, I like the characters, and there was enough clues about the next books thrown in, that I can't wait to see what happens next.

I really had to think about how to rate this book. I liked the characters, but the story was so over riddled with sex that there was no plot movement. Now don't get me wrong I love reading a good sex scene. Especially when the sex is used to further the plot or reveal a characters real nature, because inhibitions are down during sex --but this sex was just page filling irrelevant. I had hope it was getting better in the last third (during healing) but unfortunately it digressed back into only sex again. First book by this author I haven't enjoyed

I had a great time reading this. Must admit, the hot cover was the main reason I picked this one up in the first place since I am not a shifter fan (this is my fourth shifter-related book). And I was very relieved that SL didn't elaborate too much details on the shifting parts.

Yager and Neecy were very scorching HOT together and very much were not for the faint heart. I loved them and all their 'bird' family especially the crazy Mike. Hoping (and wishing) for book #2 next.

A story of Ravens and Crows; Neecy and Yeager; as the story unfolds we learn that Crows are a group of women who are offered a new life as champions of the goddess Skuld; Ravens are Nordic heirs and champions of the God Odin. Both fight for their Gods, both are strong and intelligent, both are trying to keep the world safe from the magic's of the other side.

The good: Great beginning familiar themes and plot from a favored author.

The bad: Not as good as any of her other works. I actually found it a little confusing, slow and the ending was beyond rushed. After a two hundred pages of build-up the bad guy was dispatched in two lines, ugh.

I'm just sayin: Compared to her other series, I was very disappointed with this book; I didn't care about any of the characters or their stories. The background seemed to be rushed; I was introduced to more and more crows until I got them confused with one another. There were werewolves for no reason; why can I read their inner dialogue?

The only thing that I'm certain of is that Neecy (heroine) was annoyingly stubborn and defensive in the face of an open, honest, good man, Yeager. I hate how books drag this sort of thing out; we have all been hurt, but most sensible women (even us tough ones) know a good thing when we see it and will open up a bit. Neecy was in denial for two-hundred and thirty five pages and okay for like fifty.

Overall: pass on this book and read one of this authors other gems instead

Another great book by Shelly Laurenston. In the characteristic Laurenston writing, this book is full of humor, a very different, creative world, intriguing and likeable characters. Neecy was a strong, smart, very stubborn woman, who dedicated her whole existence to her goddess Skuld, and Yager was the "nice" guy, so in love with her he would do anything to have her. This book also sets up the series for a few follow up books which I'd be looking forward to (Janelle & Tye, Arric & Mike). Excellent, fun, sexy read.

Valkyries, Norse myth and wings instead of claws and fur

Even though I loved the wings, and I loved the Norse mythological elements, and I normally really really really like Laurenston - I think her 'crass and sass' humor is a hoot - Hunting Season just did not end up being my favorite Laurenston book. So it may be that since I am not an e-reader, trying to read this on my PC spoiled my enjoyment (It took me a really long time to finish Hunting Season, so maybe I should have waited for the print release). Or perhaps the reason this story didn't quite do it for me, is that since Hunting Season is a reissue and an older work Laurenston was still finding her 'voice' as an author. The potential is certainly there but not enough 'sass' to balance out the 'crass' for me, and not enough of the crazy side characters - the wacky friends and family are also what really 'make' Laurenston's books for me.

Even though this ended up more on the okay side than my usual love it, I read somewhere that Laurenston does plan for more Crows and Ravens (if she can find the time), and there were definitely some promising future pairs, so I certainly will be keeping an eye out for future books in the series - I'd love to see what Laurenston can do with the Crows and the Ravens now.

I'm not sure what it is about this book - I know a lot of fans do not like this one - but I absolutely love it. Not quite as funny as a lot of SL's books - a bit darker, perhaps, but I find myself rereading this at least twice a year and enjoying it every time. I think I'm in love w/Yeager and Neecy both! It kills me that SL does not plan to continue the series - if nothing else, at least tell Mike and Arri's story as well as Janelle and Tye's! Maybe one day - but then again, the last couple of shifter books have been not that great (dragons continue well but are getting more and more convoluted - I'll cry if she screws up Eibhear's the Blue's book!) - I'd rather her not go back to the Crows and Ravens if she's not going to write them well (but if she did...awesome!). The sexystuff in this book is really hot too - that's something else that has disappeared from both her shifter and dragon books the last couple of years...sigh.

Wilhelm Yager, leader of the Ravens knows one thing, Neecy Lawrence is going to be his. Neecy is part of the New Jersey Crows and although they both are fighting for their own clan, he has a plan to get Neecy in his bed, apartment, and wherever else he can take her. Neecy is not interested though, she doesn't want to be anywhere near Yager. Will makes her a proposition though, 24 hours in his bed. Neecy agrees however she doesn't realize that Yager has some loopholes of his own.

Very fun read. Neecy is a handful, but Will does not back down. He is half crazy and I loved the geek factor, citing Russ Meyers was a hoot. Completely different type of book for Shelly Laurenston, has a little bit of mythology twists into the story.

Series: The Gathering #1
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

Neecy Lawrence is second-in-command of the Crows, the followers of Skuld. While dealing with a group of hunters after their wings she keeps finding herself in the arms of the Raven leader Will Yager. Yager is determined to out stubborn Neecy and make her his.

Like most of Laurenston’s books, this was a humorous romance with an ass-kicking heroine. I really enjoyed Neecy and Will’s story. Neecy is dangerous, smart, protective, and very very stubborn. She is determined to use Will for his body and not let him into her heart but that doesn't work out as she planned.

Will is a protective alpha male who is determined to win over Neecy. I loved that he never gave up on her and was sneaky about getting her to admit her feelings. He really was a great hero, even when he was being overprotective of Neecy.

Overall, this was a great romance filled with Norse mythology, bird shifters, and a lot of humor. I don’t know if she will continue with this series since she has a different series with Ravens and Crows now but I would love it if she did. Her characters are always so fun and dangerous that I can’t help but love every couple!

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

Hunting Season has been on my TBR list for a long time. Needless to say that books that aren’t on audio tend to take me longer to get to. I have so much more time to listen than read. So, when I saw that this was coming out on audio, I jumped at the chance to review it. This book was written in 2009 and there doesn’t appear to be any more book in this series coming. In my opinion, it is because she chose to take this world to Call of the Crows. Now, the author says this is not the case, you can check out her FAQ to read more.

This book is full of Norse mythology. It has a group of humans, who’ve died and been resurrected by Skuld. They become crows, and though they don’t completely shapeshift, they do have wings that they can use at will. All crows are women that Skuld deem worthy. Then there’s the ravens. They are all male. They are born ravens and are loyal to Odin. The crows are quite the party animals. The ravens being much more tame. They also look down on the crows because of their human side. Ravens also have their own wings that they can use when needed.

Neecy Lawrence is the second-in-command of the crows. She had a pretty hard life as a human. She grew up in foster homes, then she join a gang. Needless to say, she did some things she really isn’t proud of while in the gang. She was killed when she tried to leave and that is when Skuld came to her and offered her to be reborn of sorts as a crow. Neecy lives for being a crow. She is trying so hard to make up for past wrongs. She’s also a history professor with a PhD in history. Neecy also has the ability to call crows to her. That does have some funny moments.

Two more crows dived at Mike, freaking the poor kid out.
Then six more.
“Then what the…”
Tye sipped his coffee as Mike did his best to keep the birds away from him. “It’s not Neecy,” he offered casually. “It’s that meat and bird seed I put in his pockets.”
Delia covered her mouth in surprise, but she couldn’t stifle the laughter. Yager shook his head.
“Why?”
They watched as Mike ran to the doors, trying to get in. But, apparently, Tye locked them and seemed in no rush to unlock them.
“He knows why.”
Mike slammed his fist against the thick glass and pointed at Tye while the growing number of birds steadily attacked his coat and therefore him.
“You motherfucker!”
“See?” Tye took another sip of his coffee. “Told you he knows why.”

Wilhelm Yager is the leader of the New York-New Jersey Ravens. He’s also a computer geek (definitely can’t fault him for that. I love a computer geek.). He’s had a thing for Neecy for a while, but she doesn’t give him the time of day. That is until he convinces her to spend 24 hours with him.

While, I really enjoyed the characters in this book, I wasn’t a huge fan of the plot. I liked the crows and ravens. I wasn’t real big on the “hunting season” where a pack of wolf-shifters try to kill all the crows. It just wasn’t the best plot. They weren’t a good villain.

Trying to write the review for this book is difficult for me. Part of me is wanted to just compare it to the Call of the Crows books, but I know not everyone has read them. There is also part of me who is very disappointed in this book. I’ll admit that I went into this book without having read the blurb. I do that frequently with favorite authors. I like to go into books blind. I find that I enjoy them more most of the time because I’m surprised about everything. That was not the case here. I was very disappointed with this story being so similar to a series I’ve already two book in. It was a good book, just not up the standards that I’m used to by Shelly Laurenston (or her other pen name, G.A. Aiken).

Narration
I didn’t think I had listened to anything by Alexandra Shawnee before I started this book. It didn’t take 2 minutes in and I knew that I head listened to a book by her, just under a different name. She is a narrator that I’ve really enjoyed with those other books that I listened to. That being said, I don’t think she was the best choice for this book. She doesn’t bring out the humor that Shelly Laurenston has in her books. I just don’t think she brought out that snark that Laurenston is known for. I will say she does a great job with male and female voices. Not to mention the sex and fight scenes were wonderfully done. If you happen across something by her, I would recommend it.

**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Shelly Laurenston can do no wrong.

Loved the humor, the characters, the story.

Funny quotes:

1-“I’d like this dress more if I wasn’t forced into it.”
“Forced?”
“Yeah.  Janelle held me down while the rest of ‘em put it on me.” Yager stood up straight, his eyes looking off blindly.
“My God, woman.  The visual.  Was there porn music in the background?”

2- “Hey, Chuck.  Do me a favor and stop at the drug store before we get to Dr. Lawrence’s apartment.” “You got it.” He looked over at Neecy and found her with her face in her hands.  “What’s wrong?” “Are you trying to embarrass the hell out of me?” on, Neecy.  We’re all adults.  Besides, would you prefer he thought I was going in bareback?”

3- With her tucked into his big arms, Yager moved easily to the enormous bathroom.  Carefully he lowered her onto the toilet.  Then he stood back and stared at her. “Well…go on.” Her mouth dropped open in shock, but she quickly recovered.  “Have you lost your mind?  Get out.” “Come on, Neecy.  Aren’t we past this?” The last of her control snapped.  “Out!” Chuckling, “Okay.  Okay.  I’m going.”  He stepped to the doorway “And, you know, you can do whatever you need to in here.  You don’t have to keep it to peeing.” “Yager!” He laughed a little louder and walked out, closing the door behind him.

4- “They cloned it, you idiots!” “Shut up!”  Janelle screamed it so loudly, her voice even dropping a few octaves, Arri was ready to bolt out of the room.  But when she turned back around Janelle had the prettiest grin on her face.  “They must have cloned it, Dee.”
Delia grinned right back, both of them thoroughly enjoying torturing Molinski.  “You’re right, Janelle.  You’re so smart.” “Bitches,” Molinski muttered from the couch.

5- Two more crows dived at Mike, freaking the poor kid out.  Then six more. “Then what the…”
Tye sipped his coffee as Mike did his best to keep the birds away from him.  “It’s not Neecy,” he offered casually.  “It’s that meat and bird seed I put in his pockets.” Delia covered her mouth in surprise, but she couldn’t stifle the laughter. Yager shook his head.  “Why?” They watched as Mike ran to the doors, trying to get in.  But, apparently, Tye locked them and seemed in no rush to unlock them. “He knows why.” Mike slammed his fist against the thick glass and pointed at Tye while the growing number of birds steadily attacked his coat and therefore him. “You motherfucker!” “See?”  Tye took another sip of his coffee.  “Told you he knows why.”

With Ms. Laurenston it's a hit or miss for me. Although i must admit it's more of a miss considering i wasn't able to finish any of her previous books. I stumbled across Hunting Season and got interested in the description and got all fired up, but got a tad deflated when i saw who the author was. But still boredom prevailed and i got a pleasant surprise.

A fast paced erotica full of paranormal beings derived from two different Norse deities. The dynamic between the characters reminded me of immortals after dark series and all that in a good away. But to my complete enjoyment it came in a way more steamier bundle.

One more massive plus for this book comes in a fact that not one of the characters spent any time wallowing in insecurities about their body. The whole: "OMG!!! He's so hawt and I'm so fugly!" routine is getting a little old. Finally a chick who doesn't give a fuck what anybody thinks and is not allowing herself to be defined by whomever is doing her at the moment. Laurenston- atta girl!

5 stars. This is my first Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aiken book and I think, we like each other just fine. This was the first installment of The Gathering Series. If you like Dark-Hunter, LOTU, Alien Huntress with erotica flavor mixed in, you will like this book. It was an easy read and a page turner. I finished it in a couple of sittings.

The plot was good. It mainly prepped readers for what’s to come. I love the H/H. They complemented each other well. Tho, at times, I wanted to stranger Neecy for fighting the attraction she had for the 6’7” Viking warrior, Will. But she gave in, finally.

I like all of the characters, introduced so far. I think they were fun bunches. Each has his/her own individuality that were interesting and likable. I’m definitely looking forward to the second book.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than Shelly Laurenston. This was a lot like Mane Squeeze, geeky tough guy meets brazen Jersey girl who kicks ass and causes pain. This formula will never get old for me.

This is my first shifter series involving crows and ravens (Vikings), who knew birds could be so funny?

4.5 stars! Another really great read from Laurenston. I liked that she integrated her shifter world world with this mythological-based one. I hope that she continues the series (it would be great to get Tye/Janelle's and Mike/Ari's stories!)....

3 Underwhelmed Stars

This book is the story of Raven Yeager and Crow Neecy. As the story unfolds, we learn that the Crows are a group of women who were offered a new life (referred to as their second life) as champions of the goddess Skuld, whilst Ravens are Nordic heirs and champions of the God Odin. Both fight for their Gods, and are fierce, strong and intelligent beings, who try to keep the world safe. Sounds good right, but the normal Laurenston magic just wasn’t there for me.

It feels like sacrilege saying this, since I’m a big Laurenston fan, but this book is one of my least favourites of any of her books. The plot in certain places really dragged and whilst the second half of the book did pick up some, I never found myself absorbed, nor did I laugh! There were some small moments that had me smiling, but not as potently as the authors other books.

I liked the characters but they didn’t bounce of the page for me, plus the sex scenes between them felt like page fillers.

I've read Call of Crows before this one. I actually accidentally came across this and I was like whoa where did this come from? Anywho, I borrowed on KU since I'm doing a free trial for it. Have to say I am a bit glad I didnt purchase it. Its not bad because I LOVE SL/GA...just love her stories because of the humor and awesome characters. This felt a little bit different. The love story just really dragged on and although I liked Neecy just fine her denial of having a "relationship" got old. I mean it dragged on through most of the book. The plot wasnt lined out quite right either. The big confrontation for her "trial" at the end? That was kinda disappointing. I was expecting it to be a bigger deal and it sorta fell flat. I was like...Is that it?! I loved Will Yager. I mean loved him! He kept me reading it to be honest. Couldnt wait to read more about him. I am very curious about the other characters in the book too. I would totally read more of this series even if it wasnt up to par like her others.

This was a cool shift into a new world. Loved the Crows - they were bad to the bone bitches who had each others backs. Like the layers of Neecey, she was intriguing, and funny. Will was all things sigh inducing. He has his sights set on Neecey and goes about winning her over through perseverance and because he actually gets to know her - what makes her tick.
Excellent bad guy stuff going on in the back ground to bring the story together.
