Joa is an anomaly on the bullriding circuit. He's Brazilian, but he grew up in Texas, so he's not sure where he fits in. Champion Brazilian rider Balta knows just where he wants Joa to be. In his life and in his bed.
Shy and not sure of his feelings, Joa is reluctant to see Balta as anything but a hero. Balta is determined to show Joa that he's not a saint, and he sets out to get exactly what he wants. Set during the first season of the Roughstock series, Doce follows Balta's courtship of Joa, but will it end well for the Brazilian cowboys?
Texan to the bone and an unrepentant Daddy's Girl, BA Tortuga spends her days with her hounds and her beloved wife, texting her grandbabies, and eating Mexican food. When she's not doing that, she's writing. She spends her days off watching rodeo, knitting, and surfing Pinterest in the name of research. Following their own personal joys, BA and Julia heard the call of the high desert and they now live in the New Mexico mountains. BA's personal saviors include her wife, her best friends, and coffee. Lots of coffee. Really good coffee.
Having written everything from fist-fighting rednecks to cowboy daddies to werewolves, BA does her damnedest to tell the stories of her heart, which is committed to giving everyone their happily ever after. With books ranging from hard-hitting BDSM, to fiery passions, to the most traditional of love stories, BA refuses to be pigeon-holed by anyone but the voices in her head.
I had to look up about two dozen Portuguese words to get through this story. Balta and Joa (how do you say that name?) Joe-ah? Joe-uh? Joe? or is the J silent somehow? Well, in my head he was Joe-uh.
Anyway, Balta and Joa have been on the circuit for a long time. Balta is worshipped by the Brazilian contingent on the rodeo, including long time friend Joa. Balta is universally liked by the Americans too. Balta finally decides to seduce Joa since he realizes Joa will never take the first step. Joa is very inexperienced in man-lovin’ but Balta is happy to teach him...
Coke, Jonesy, Doc, Nate, AJ, Hank, Sam, Beau, Kynan, Bonner, Dillan, Chris, Packer, Troy, and some of the Brazilians, Eduardo and Raul make an appearance or are mentioned.
At times I really would like a chart. Because of the length of time between stories I have a hard time remembering who is with who. In this story it looks like Coke and Dillan are not speaking to each other but I don't remember if that is new info or if that came up in the last book(s). Frustrating.
Still a fun read but I felt less like I was catching up with old friends and more like I was falling behind on my daily soap. I need a refresher/recap story.
I didn't enjoy this story at all . I didn't like the MCs, particularly Balta. I found the narrative jerky, the interaction between MCs awkward, the chemistry scarce.
There're too many typos, Portuguese is butchered and the misuse of it confers an affected tone to Joa and Balta's voices that I find awful.
Abrigado or Obrigato instead of Obrigado? Sao Paolo instead of São Paulo? Too much.
A very entertaining series. Lots of sex and sexy cowboys. I saw BA Tortuga's youtube video on the Roughstock men and the visuals were a great addition!
This book features 2 important secondary characters, Joa and Balta in that they are the main characters in the next book - Amorzinhos where they become a menage - very hot!
Another nice story in the Roughstock series although it's been a while since I read the others and for the most part I was kind of lost as to who was who. Still, a sweet story overall.
