This devotional contains all 150 Psalms and 20 other songs in Scripture, divided into daily readings. The readings include helpful background information on the psalm, a related hymn stanza, and an application thought. Biweekly “Interludes” further aid understanding by explaining things such as acrostic psalms or Hebrew poetic style. Indexes included.

I liked this devotional. I could hardly wait to read the next day's entry. It was very inspirational. I especially liked when the Hebrew words were discussed, and I enjoyed the quotes.
4 stars - I've used this book for my daily devotional in 2017. I love the Psalms, and also think the NLT (which this book uses) does a good job of translating this ancient literature into a relevant, yet still accurate version for today. Each day there is a Psalm or a portion of a Psalm, followed by an account which relates to the idea in the Psalm and then a quotation relevant to the Psalm. I never felt like reading this book each day was a burden or obligation as i have with some devotional books. If you're looking for a good devotional book for 2018, i can recommend this book. It's available as an ebook from Kindle and iBooks, and of course in physical form from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
I was about to donate this without even opening it, because I love reading the psalms daily in my Book of Common Prayer, so why would I even need this? But I quickly decided that this would be my devotional for 2025. The daily readings are so much more than a Psalter, there are snippets of carols, hymns, poems, and inspirational quotes for each day. I have transferred many beautiful expressions into my journal in just the few short days I have been reading it.
The use of the NLT translation makes it easy to understand, but it doesn’t feel fluffy at all because the devotionals are deeply moving.
Some good days with contextual commentary, and some days with modern stories that left me wanting more. I did enjoy the quotations, hymn snippets, and cross references. And some of the "weekend interludes" were interesting, but I really preferred to keep reading the Psalms instead. I also wish there was an edition with a different Bible translation (I ended up reading in my own Bible, then looking at the entry for each day). Overall, not a bad choice for keeping a daily Bible reading habit, I just wanted something more or different than what it offered.
This is a daily devotional using various Psalms as a base. Psalms or portions of psalms are printed, then the writers comment on the reading. There is Bible commentary (explaining various parts or words or meanings), often there is historical placement, and there are often stories of famous people to which the psalm has special meaning. The book was a good way to start my day; not only spiritual but also with new information. All in all, an excellent daily reading.
My only complaint is that the version of the Bible they used often had some very different word choices used - enough to potentially change the meaning of scripture. We ended up using our ESV Bible to read the scripture part (and it was interesting - often times they would have a little note about various words that would end up pointing people to the meaning actually used in other Bible versions like the ESV).
I enjoyed this daily reading and study of the book of Psalms. Each morning I could explore a bit more of this book from the Bible, with information on what various verses mean and stories applying it to real life. Reading the daily installment was a great way to begin each day!
Devotional based on the Psalms. One of the better year-longs I’ve read. Every day has a Psalm, a story somehow relevant to it, a verse or verses of a related hymn, a networking connection to relevant other locations in scripture, and a quote from some notable.
I really enjoyed reading this book during the year 2021. I love reading the book of Psalms and the comments and history added by the author made reading this book even more enjoyable.
This was my devotional book for 2024, and I am very pleased with it. As well as the texts of the psalms, it included daily reflection s, suggestions for related Bible studies, and quotations. I recommend this devotional.
As a church musician, I especially appreciated the daily references to hymns. It was interesting to identify them, since most excerpts were not from first stanzas!
This is the third or fourth time I have read through this book of devotionals, and I like it more every time I use it. This time I did it in about 45 days, and it, as always, was a blessing (and I plan on doing it again next year, the last 6 months of the year - Lord willing). I had always struggled with the Psalms, because I am not particularly a fan of poetry; but, this book helped me change my perspective. It caused me to fall in love with the Psalms. If anyone is looking for a daily devotional guide, I would highly recommend this book.
This devotional is a fun and informational way to read through the Psalms in a year. Even if you get behind, it's easy to catch up. I've even found myself reading ahead.
I love the layout, the interesting historical facts, and quotes.
It would be incredible to have a book like this for each book of the Bible. Highly recommended for a personal devotional, as well as an inspirational gift for others.
If you are looking for a devotional I have to say this is one of my favorites! I love how it takes a Psalm a day and then also tells you a story that goes along with the daily devotional. It also gives you other bible verses you can read if you want. I truly have enjoyed this devotional and I am going to use it again this year along with a more in deepth bible study of the Psalms.
Good way to keep my head in Scripture daily by reading portions of the Psalms. They also included inspiration from personal stories of people's faith that push you closer to Jesus. Looking for a good replacement book as a daily devotional.
If you want to read through the book of Psalms, this is a great way to do it! It is filled with historical tidbits (and I love history) I found everything about this book interesting. It’s not only informational, but inspirational as well. This book is a perfect give for someone you care about.
Although not a Catholic version of the Psalms it is a good book giving a day by day guide for inspiration and reflection. The commentary on the Psalms is interesting and informative. I highly recommend this book for help in reflextion on your faith and living with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
A book of devotions for the Psalms over one year. The authors take a psalm or part of a psalm each day and write a devotional for it. There are also "catch-up" devotions explaining the structure and purpose of some of the psalms. A few other Scripture portions are woven in also.
Wonderful devotional book! Enjoyed each reading that includes Scripture, the words of a hymn, commentary and references to other Scriptures that reflect the Psalm for the day.
