I didn't like the sexist vibe I was getting from this. I get gender archetypes and binaries are popular in books like these sometimes but I didn't like it. Call me newly enlightened, but as a queer woman the archaic assumption that the male/female pairing is essential to belief systems like this also irritates me a lot more than it used to. I didn’t see how women who weren’t straight fit into this at all. I didn’t feel empowered while reading this. Caitlin Matthews is a fine author and far superior to this one. This book in some ways reminded me of the dogma found in Christian books.

Parts of it were interesting, some not so much. Depending maybe how much one knows already...

I probably won't read this again, but it had a few takeaways that I enjoyed.

Kinda reminded me of a Celtic version of the Jean Shinoda Bolen EveryWoman/EveryMan Greek Gods/esses book. It actually started out pretty well, with little quizzes to give you an idea as to wear you fell, i.e. Warrior Woman, Queen, Lover, Sorceress, which was rather interesting. The author also gave some alternate interpretations of some of the women's myths in the Celtic stories, which helped make it more palatable. Overall, a decent read.

It gave me a better understanding of Welsh mythology regarding some of the stories around the Welsh Goddesses.

It's a good book for if you want to learn about this subject. Saddly I no longer own it. The book has been passed to someone who needed it more than I did.
