Ich verstehe ehrlich gesagt nicht, warum das Buch so schlecht bewertet ist. "Eine Leiche zum Valentinstag" mag keine hochtrabende Literatur sein, aber das Buch lässt sich schnell und flüssig lesen, es ist spannend und sehr sarkastisch.

Ich liebe es, wie sich die Protagonistin Val immer das Worst Case Szenario vorstellt und sich ausmalt, wie 'rosig' ihre Zukunft sein wird, wenn die jeweilige Situation die Überhand gewinnt. Das Buch ist mit seinen knapp 350 Seiten nicht dick, aber es wurden dementsprechend auch nur ausgewählte Charaktere vorgestellt und diese, wenn auch nicht so tief wie bei beispielsweise Stephen King, aber doch ausreichend ausgebaut. Es gibt einen gesunden Mix aus Protagonisten und Nebencharakteren, die sowohl vom Alter, als auch von den Persönlichkeiten total voneinander abweichen - das allein spricht, finde ich schon, für eine Autorin, die ja trotz allem immer noch einen lockeren Roman und keinen Thriller geschaffen hat.

Auf die Auflösung des Falles wird dem Titel zum Trotz eigentlich gar nicht so viel Wert gelegt. Die Geschichte plätschert eher vor sich hin und macht trotzdem viel Spaß. Interessant zu sehen war, wie sich am Ende der Kreis schließt und ich war tatsächlich ein wenig erstaunt, dass der Mörder jemand ganz anderes war, als ich die ganze Zeit vermutet hatte. Somit wurden alle Fragen geklärt, es wurde sich nicht mit sinnlosem Überstrapazieren und Ausdehnen der Geschichte aufgehalten und ich muss sagen, dass es mir unglaublich gut gefallen hat, mal wieder so einen leichten Roman zu lesen.

Following the break down of her relationship with her boyfriend, Val leaves the City and heads to the Irish 'sticks', arriving to find the 'Dead German' in the garden of the house she is due to be staying in.
Meeting Terry, the Solicitor; Dara, the Solicitor's handsome son; Rachel, the old friend; and rather unforgettably Val's mother - this book takes you on a rather rollercoaster route to a moderately surprising end.
Whilst this was an easy read, the type that you might pack in the suitcase to take on a holiday spent poolside, it was not the most thrilling, being rather depressing for large parts, very self-centred (the protagonist) and self pitying, and predictable in other parts. But if you are looking to have an easy read which doesn't require much thought, then this is a good one to go for.

Στα Ελληνικά κυκλοφορεί με τον τίτλο "Υγιεινές διαστροφές"
Αρκετά καλό, καλή ιστοριούλα με μια κοπέλα που χωρίζει με το φίλο της και μετακομίζει σε νέο μέρος. Είχε λίγο χιούμορ και γενικά η πλοκή ήταν καλή, ενδιαφέρουσα αν και απλή.
Νομίζω ότι σε κάποια σημεία η μετάφραση ήταν απόδοση κάποιων εκφράσεων αγγλικών που στη δική μας γλώσσα δεν έβγαζαν και πολύ νόημα, και υπήρχαν και κάποια λάθη που με κάνανε να κολλάω στην πρόταση προσπαθώντας να καταλάβω τι θέλει να πει ο συγγραφέας (πχ "Κανένα αργό σύρσιμο αλυσίδων καθώς ότι κι αν ήταν αυτό σερνόταν ανεβαίνοντας από το υπόγειο" ).
Γενικά ήταν αρκετά καλό, μια ευχάριστη παρέα και ένα εύκολο ανάγνωσμα.

Easy, light read and mildly entertaining.

I did get a little irritated with the author's habit of talking about "the elves" in the main character's head. The first time was quite interesting and clever, but by the end of the book it had just become boring and childish.

I good piece of feel good chic lit though.

If you've just broken up with a loved one and want to read something that makes you feel like you're not alone and someone understands what you are going through then perhaps this is the book for you. But otherwise,

it gets a big MEH rating.
