A textbook on how to make your life extraordinary. Benji & Me instills the faith that everyone can make a difference in this world, not only for themselves but for others as well. This is the incredible, inspirational story of how Joe Camp, a small-time ad guy, turned wholesale Hollywood rejection into the worldwide phenomenon of Benji and became one of the most successful independent filmmakers in history... the hard way, with G-rated films and no help from the studios. If you have a dream, if you're ready to strike out against the odds, to adventure into uncharted waters and leave this world a better place for the effort, then Benji & Me is a must-read for you.

I love books about the rise to success despite the odds. I love books about dogs. I even, sometimes, love books about making movies. So, this book was a no-brainer, especially after enjoying Joe Camp's other book, The Soul of a Horse: Life Lessons from the Herd. Even so, I bought this over a year ago and it's been sitting on my shelf while I've been getting through my tbr pile.

I'm glad I finally read it. I like Joe Camp. I like his honesty and integrity and his approach to life. I liked reading about his early years and his doubts and insecurities and I loved how he stuck to his vision for Benji and how it turned out. During the reading of this book, I found all four Benji movies at the library and watched all of them so I could appreciate the book even more. They're all good fun and I especially liked watching Higgins in the original one - I'm so dog-focused that I would have been fascinated with him even if I hadn't read all about the making of the movie.

So, as much as I loved the story and the book, why only four stars? For some reason, the book dragged. I had to force myself to sit down and finish it. Still, I'm glad I finally read it.

As a child I saw all the Benji movies and of course being a dog lover I fell in love with Benji’s at first sight. Benji was owned and trained by Frank Inn. Joe Canp is the one who wrote the Benji movies. Joe abs Benji became great friends abs made Benji one of the highest grossing movies of all times. This book tells how Joe had a dream and how he met Frank inn & Benji. 🐶
