Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he spent his youth traveling the world, and has worked as a commercial pilot, a racecar driver, and a lawyer specializing in commercial litigation. He published his first novel, the bayou thriller Voodoo Fury, in 1991. His greatest success came in 2005, when The Pegasus Secret introduced the world to lawyer Lang Reilly; Loomis charted that character’s globetrotting adventures through five more novels, including The Coptic Secret (2009) and The Cathar Secret (2011). With Gates of Hades (2007), Loomis began a new series centered on Jason Peters, an international operative working for NARCOM, a private corporation that does what the CIA cannot. Hot Ice (2013) is the second Jason Peters novel. Loomis now writes and practices law in Atlanta.

En dan blijkt dat de kist één van de grootste geheimen van het christendom bevat.
Meer dan zestig jaar later wordt de Amerikaanse schrijver Don Huff op gruwelijke wijze vermoord, kort voordat hij erin slaagt om de betekenis van de geheimzinnige inhoud van de kist te doorgronden. En om de moord op haar vader op te lossen, roept zijn dochter de hulp in van een oude vriend, Langdon Reilly.
Het spoor dat Langdon volgt voert hem op een race dwars door Europa, en brengt hem steeds dichter bij het geheim dat sinds de dagen van de eerste christenen verborgen is gebleven...
Een spannend boek met een bijzonder onverwachte draai aan het einde. Het is zo boek waar je elke keer denkt te weten wie het is of in welke richting je het moet zoeken, maar elke keer zit je weer fout. Het leest lekker snel je wil gewoon weten wie het heeft gedaan!

Julian Sırrı'nın kalibresi zaten belli ama yazdığınız kitabı Da Vinci Şifresi ile karşılaştırmak, sonra da bunu kitabın kapağına basmak çok üzücü birşey değil mi? Yazar olup kitabım satsın diye başka bir kitabın rüzgarını arkama almaya çalışsam epey üzülürdüm.
Genel yorumların aksine Pegasus Sırrı'nı beğenmiştim. Bu tarz kitaplardan hiçbirşey beklemediğiniz zaman hayal kırıklığına da uğramıyorsunuz. Yapı itibariyle akıcı olduğu için sabun köpüğü gibi bir çırpıda okunuyor. Hatta iki gün sonra sonunda ne olduğunu bile hatırlamıyorsunuz.
Bu bağlamda serinin ikinci kitabı olan Julian Sırrı inanılmaz amatörce yazılmış. Çevirisinin başarılı olmamasını geçiyorum, hikayenin özü de sağlam değil. Zaten kitabını karşılaştırdıkları çoksatarın ana karakterinin soyadı Langdon iken sen kendi az satarının ana karakterine Langford ismini koyar mısın? Hayır bu kadar mı isim kalmadı gezegende?
Gurt karakteri bu tarz Historical Fiction'ların olmazsa olmazı. Münzevi ancak yakışıklı tarihçi, yanında güzel ve becerikli bir kadın. Ancak en azından Robert Langdon tarihçi, sembol bilimci. Lang Reilly bir eski teşkilatçı, yeni avukat. Tarihi konularla ne işin var?
Yazar ülkeler ve insanlar üzerinden atıp tutmuş. Bu çok enteresan. İtalyanlar şöyledir, Amerikalılar böyledir (gereksiz bir patriotism sergileyerek). O kadar sallamış ki ucu İstanbul'daki havaalanlarına kadar değmiş. Hatta ana karakter (artık spoiler mpoiler demeden yazıyorum nasıl olsa kimse okumayacak) binlerce yıllık bir mezarda yüzlerce yıllık bir amfora buluyor, hunharca üzerindeki mühürü kırıyor, içindekilere birşey olur diye düşünmeden hepsini yere döküyor.
Özetle işte bu yüzden Dan Brown olunmak isteniyor, ama Gregg Loomis olunmak istenmiyor.
Serinin iki yeni kitabını daha buldum ama sanırım devam etmeyeceğim.

Langdon wordt gevraagd de moordenaar te vinden maar de harde schijf waarop het manuscript stond is verdwenen en al wat rest is een oude kaartenindex met verschillende namen erop en een disc met oude foto's. Wat heeft dit toch allemaal te betekenen?
Al snel worden ze achtervolgt en proberen ze zelfs hun te vermoorden.
Wat voor geheim stond er in dat manuscript dat ze er alles aan doen om te voorkomen dat de "waarheid"in een boek komt.
Wie schuilt achter de verschillende moordaanslagen?
Fijn geschreven thriller met vaart en actie. Personages hebben alleen niet veel diepgang. Dat vind ik in dit boek een min-puntje. Wat voor mij de 4 sterren maakt is dat ik tot aan de laatste pagina's niet wist wie er achter de moord en moordaanslagen zaten en vooral waarom.

Also returning is Gurt Fuchs, the gloriously blunt German intelligence contact who is Lang’s unofficial guardian angel, if your guardian angel carried a SIG Sauer and believed feelings were for civilians. Gurt is a one-woman backup team, equal parts dry wit, exasperation, and efficiency. She’s not here for your emotional arcs. She’s here to help Lang not die, again.
The MacGuffin:
This time around, the danger centers on a long-lost document tied to Julian the Apostate, the Roman emperor who famously tried to drag the Empire back to paganism — because apparently Zeus was trending again. Naturally, if this secret comes to light, it could trigger mass chaos, philosophical debates, and probably a History Channel special. It's juicy, heretical, and mysterious, just the way we like our MacGuffins.

When Lang’s journalist friend, former CIA agent Don Huff (because, of course, he has a friend who pokes around dangerous secrets), turns up dead, Lang gets pulled into yet another globe-hopping thriller that begins in Washington, spins through Europe, and dives headlong into ancient Roman philosophy. The trail leads him to Julian the Apostate, a Roman emperor, philosopher, and general buzzkill to early Christian expansion. A manuscript connected to Julian’s suppressed ideas is at the heart of the chaos, and as usual, it’s not just about history; it’s about power. These ideas could rock religious foundations and upset several powerful organizations that prefer their ancient truths well-buried.
Writing Style:
Gregg Loomis keeps it tight and fast, no fluff, no slowdowns. The prose is clean, the pacing brisk, and the action tight. He sprinkles just enough historical context to make you feel smart, without bogging you down in ten pages of Julian trivia (though honestly, you’ll want to look him up later because the guy was unique). The conversations between Lang and Gurt are especially enjoyable, like Holmes and Watson, if Watson was ex-German Intelligence and had no time for your nonsense.
Final Thoughts:
The Julian Secret is an engaging, globe-trotting thriller that keeps the tension high and the stakes higher. It builds on The Pegasus Secret with returning characters, deeper historical stakes, and a slightly darker tone. Gurt Fuchs is the MVP, providing tactical support and dry one-liners in equal measure. Loomis strikes a great balance between historical curiosity and action-fueled storytelling.

The Julian Secret by Gregg Loomis was another purchase made on a gift card I received for Christmas. I went nuts on the historical fiction category and this was one of many in the genre I purchased. If you have read a few of my reviews you know that it is probably my favorite casual read subject. While I thought the book was entertaining, it did not really stand out from the myriad of books that are of similar effort.
Apparently our protagonist, Lang Reilly, is an ongoing character in the works of Gregg Loomis. I think had I read any other books by him, I would have had more of a feel for The Julian Secret. As I have not, the bits and pieces that are referenced regarding the history of Lang had to be enough to clue me in as to what his story was. I felt I was missing something.
The book follows the path of Lang as he traces back a mystery that involves the Nazi's, the Vatican, and the murder of a close friend. Again we have another Dan Brown knock off that is less clever but using some of the same ideas. The writing is not bad but the story just never really came together for me.
I personally felt the book lacked authenticity and I never really felt interest in any of the characters. While I don't feel like the book was a total waste of time, it is not something I would readily recommend to someone either. However, if you are a historical fiction junkie and have exhausted your entire library already, maybe you would find it enjoyable.

At first, I thought that this this was another Indiana Jones in the making - this time uncovering secrets of the origins of Christianity. Yet the book really doesn't deliver on this aspect of the plot.
What was fascinating was that historically, there really was a Sturmbannfuhrer Otto Skorzeny, a military genius who rescued Mussolini and directed Operation Grief, impersonating Allied soldiers.
The protagonist, Lang Reilly, has more lives than a cat, as there are those bent on him not uncovering ancient secrets. I love the malapropisms that his partner, Gurt, uses as she tries to learn English. Yet when Gurt is supposedly killed in a cave bombing, Lang doesn't spend a lot of time looking for her. He just presumes that she is dead, only for her to somehow come back and save Lang's butt. When Gurt leaves him at the end, Lang doesn't put up too much of a fuss.
If the plot were more believable, this could have been a much better book.

this is the second book in the lang reilly series. this time a friend of his is murdered in Italy and he and his girlfriend go to find out why and how. in his search he finds that the Germans and Hitler and the church in the second world war were involved in the reason for the murder.

Een leuk boek, dat zonder meer. Toch niet de diepgang die ik verwachtte, wat ik altijd wel waardeer in een verhaal. Ik zou het desalniettemin nog steeds aanraden voor de liefhebbers van Dan Brown-achtige teksten, maar zou hem niet opnieuw lezen.

Slow at first
Loomis has a way of making you not want to put the book down. It takes a few chapters to get going but once it does it is a rapid pace turner.

Akta Julián je dalším příběhem odkrývající prastaré tajemství. Na hlavního protagonistu jsem si už zvykl a odkrývat další záhadu mě bavilo. Musím však uznat, že tento díl byl pro mě poněkud slabší než Případ Pegasus. Příběh se mi zdál v některých částech až příliš uspěchaný a dějová linie Gurt střižena jako z Mission: Impossible. Celkově však příjemná oddechovka.

Writing the second book in a series can be a difficult proposition. You have to acknowledge returning readers who have already been introduced to the recurring characters and situations, but give enough information to new readers so they are not lost.
I didn’t know that this book was part of a series, but writer Gregg Loomis quickly got us up to speed once the main characters appeared.
Lang Reilly, former CIA agent, works as a highly paid attorney for corporations and individuals. One day he receives a phone call from the daughter of a former colleague Don Huff, who has been murdered, and she feels the local Spanish authorities are not properly looking into the case. Reilly accompanied by his lover Gurt, also a former agent, begin looking into the matter and quickly become the targets of someone who will kill to keep a secret. It seems that they do not want the information that Huff had uncovered for a book he was researching to be revealed.
Something was hidden by a Roman Emperor in a graveyard, something that he thought of as a great joke against the Christians he hated. Centuries later it is unearthed under the Vatican by workers under the direction of Pope Pius XII. At the end of WWII an American army unit kills the crew of a train carrying stolen treasure, while an American officer secretly meets with his German counterpart. Both this former Nazi and the Roman Catholic Church have something to hide. It eventually becomes to clear to Lang & Gurt that the two things may be connected.
Loomis throws in information on church history, theology and other such stuff to keep readers who loved the Da Vinci Code more than happy. He also gives Lang and other characters great dialogue, a sense of humor (especially if you love French bashing) and more than enough skills to stay at least a half step ahead of those trying to stop them. Together and separately, Lang & Gurt are a great pair of characters and I’m looking forward to seeing what Loomis may have in store for them next time out. I’m also tempted to look for “The Pegasus Secret”, the book that introduces Lang & Gurt.
I didn’t know that this book was part of a series, but writer Gregg Loomis quickly got us up to speed once the main characters appeared.
Lang Reilly, former CIA agent, works as a highly paid attorney for corporations and individuals. One day he receives a phone call from the daughter of a former colleague Don Huff, who has been murdered, and she feels the local Spanish authorities are not properly looking into the case. Reilly accompanied by his lover Gurt, also a former agent, begin looking into the matter and quickly become the targets of someone who will kill to keep a secret. It seems that they do not want the information that Huff had uncovered for a book he was researching to be revealed.
Something was hidden by a Roman Emperor in a graveyard, something that he thought of as a great joke against the Christians he hated. Centuries later it is unearthed under the Vatican by workers under the direction of Pope Pius XII. At the end of WWII an American army unit kills the crew of a train carrying stolen treasure, while an American officer secretly meets with his German counterpart. Both this former Nazi and the Roman Catholic Church have something to hide. It eventually becomes to clear to Lang & Gurt that the two things may be connected.

The second book in the Lang Reilly series. Lang helps a friend solve a murder mystery. Weak, but entertaining.

A book, which I thought will read in my free time, here at the Platform. I have been always addition to trillers and fictions. This is a thriller, about Lang Reilly who is going after a killer of his friends and cousin. He had a belief that it has something to do with some information he was exposed about the basic foundation of Catholic church.

What I like about these type of books is that I can grab a map or hit up google Earth and follow along as the action happens. In this adventure, Land and Gurt are off to find out who wants to kill him (this time). A decent book to have on the reader or in your pocket when you've got some time to kill.

I didn't get why the Agency hadn't simply killed Straight back in the day like they killed his mother, they obviously had no qualms killing innocents and Straight was more trouble than he was worth for years. And the fact that the Julian thing was a red herring and of no significance to the story at all... Eh.

So far it is a little slow. There are far too many scene shifts and multiple locations. Has taken a while to get things straight and organized in my head. The action is just starting to heat up, and I am about 120 pages into it.

As I said for "The Pegasus Secret", I'm sure I read these first two in this series at the same time? I think I may have read or started "Gates of Hades". I am on my iPad and do't have access to my books data base right now. I will have to check and update this with som positives.

Lang Reilly is on another dangerous adventure. This time Lang is joined by an "ex"-girlfriend, Gurt. The Julian Secret blends events of the Nazis in WWII and the catacombs under the Vatican. Searching for answers is often extremely dangerous.
