Was there any warrior more handsome, more virile than the powerful young war chief bathing naked in the river? Meadow was certain she'd never forget the sight of his lean hips, his sinewed thighs and bronzed chest. He was all that a Sioux maiden could want in a mate. But though she'd been raised in the village, Meadow was not really one of the People. Her parents had been white, and her past would bring unexpected disaster upon her band of Oglala.
MEADOW
She was his to love, her flaxen hair shining like gold on the furs as he stroked her sweet body. But when she was ripped from his arms after a single night as his wife, Black Horse swore he would rescue her from the pony soldiers. Even if he lost his own freedom, his life, he would gaze one more time into the beautiful jade green eyes of the woman who possessed his soul.

This was my first Veronica Blake book....it wont be my last. I enjoyed this book from the very beginning to the end. I loved the sweetness of the h and the Hero from the very beginning.
Black Horse is a young Sioux Indian Chief. He comes back to the tribe after being away fighting different battles. Meadow (h) and her friend are spying on him while taking a bath. He realizes the two young girls are watching him.....so he lets them see "HIM". They are like ..."OH MY!" He just chuckles to himself. Later he sees Meadow and is struck by her beauty, even though she is a white girl with blond hair and green eyes. He Hates the White man!!
Meadow was brought to the Sioux tribe and adopted by an Indian couple when she was 2 yrs old after a raid killed her family. She knows no other parents but her adoptive ones. She only has her adopted father left who is the tribes medicine man. He decides to match up Black Horse and Meadow. They agree to be married the very same day she saw him at the river. They have a time of courtship and grow to love one another.
They are in the middle of their wedding when the Mounties come in and interupt it. One Mountie sees Meadow and can't believe how beautiful she is and how terrible it is she is forced to marry that savage Indian. He has no idea how much Meadow has grown to love Black Horse.
One thing leads to another and the wedding is stopped and it takes until the end of the story to ever get them back together.
I loved this story because it wasn't the canned Native American story. It has twist and turns in it and surprises too.
If you want a good Native American story about the Sioux and Sitting Bulls tribe.....read this book.
...but I'm sorry to say that the beginning was the best part. Afterwards, there just seems to be too much angst, too many problems, and wayyyyy too much time that the hero and heroine have to spend apart. I prefer my lovers in these stories to stick together, please and thank you, so....yup.
Enjoyed the love story between Black Horse and Meadow. Wished we could have spent more time reading about their love story than their plight to return to each other though. Then ending was too short and the middle too long if that makes any sense. Loved the ending though. From other reviews I was waiting for disappointment. No disappointment. Would I buy this book again? Yes. Will I read it again? Probably.
OMG. This book was awesome from beginning to end. Two people who lived very different lives. One was a true Sioux warrior. He was strong and man that any girl would love to make her husband. A girl that lost her family on a wagon train was attacked by other Sioux Indians. Was taken in by White Buffalo and his wife and they raised her like she was her own and she made a life decision to be faithful to her adoptive family. Black Horse & Meadow was on their way to wedded bliss when a soldier interrupted the wedding and said she was a white woman and should't be with the Indian warrior. But she wanted Black Horse with all her heart. Then they both was kidnapped Black Horse was in prison and Meadow got taken by Blackfoot Indians but she escaped. But again captured by the soldiers and they introduced her to her white brother and he was ready to take with them and make her a white woman and make her forget about the Indians forever. But she found out that Black Horse was still alive and she vowed to go back to the Sioux tribe and get some help to free him and keep them together forever. But when Black Horse saw her for the first time after his capture she was dressed as a white woman and didn't want nothing to do with her. When she comes back to free him with his blood brother things are strained between them. But will time heal all wounds or will Meadow never have the love of Black Horse again
If you’re looking for a quick, mindless read where you don’t think too much...then this is for you.
It’s weird how things move slowly and are rushed all at the same time in this story. Like it’s love at first sight for them. He hasn’t wanted to marry a woman in so long but at first sight this blonde, green eyed woman makes him change his mind like THAT? Yea right.
Another problem I have is that there are characters that the author introduces but doesn’t really explore. So it’s like, why introduce them? Example: A man from the Blackfoot tribe kidnaps the heroine. He has his own POV and bits and pieces of a backstory as to why he kidnaps her. Then as soon as the heroine leaves we never hear from him or the Blackfoot tribe again.
This story was soooo incredibly predictable. You knew exactly what was going to happen before it happened. You even know what romances are going to take place.
There are more things I would like to point out but this is sufficient so far.
The one thing that I CAN say that I liked about this book is the fact that for once the heroine rescued herself and the hero instead of the hero coming in to save the day.
In all, it wasn’t the worst thing I’ve read but definitely not for someone who is looking for a story that is more substantial. This is more like a “let me pass time at this doctor’s appt” read.
I love the story between the two main characters the warrior is very strong but loving to his new wife, but did not like the ending it was in a way (to me of course) keep up or get left behind. I know men don't like showing weakness in front of others but it was to cold for me. I also didn't like the fact he doubted his wife loyalty
I loved this book. Since I don't give very many 5 stars this got the best that I give.
Meadow a white girl living in a Sioux village falls in love with a War Chief. This story is about the trials and tribulations they incur while trying to get married.
Second time reading this book. Relatively good read. She was adopted by the Sioux as a young child when the wagon train she was with was ambushed. As she was only a toddler at the time she has no real recollection of her white heritage. On the day she is due to wed a young war chief Canadian Mounties came and one of them recognises her as a white so the wedding is stopped. A raid by their enemy the Blackfoot she is taken captive. Eventually she ends up with the Mounties at the Fort. He becomes angry and distraught over her loss and sets out to find her only to be wounded by soldiers and eventually captured. She soon meets her long lost brother and on route to his destination she plots her escape and also that of her beloved war chief. With the help of his friend they soon free him.
What a great read best native Indian book i read in along time there was so much hatred against the Indians but this has always been their land I glad to see meadow devotion to the people who raise her I felt sad sad for her brother because he could not see how happy she was and would probably kill her for it
Adopted by the Sioux as a young child, Meadow thinks of herself as one of the People, until a white visitor to their camp notices her pale coloring and begins to question her background. On the verge of consummating her vows with the virile young chief who’s captured her heart, she is torn from the life she loves while he must risk his freedom to rescue her.
This was a very good story about a very brave woman and a true love the story was not at all what I thought it was going to be it was much better it was a page Turner and tear jerker it's a must-read
I’m not really in the mood for a romance where the hero and heroine will be separated for the majority of the book which I feel like is what this will be. Also not even a little bit into love triangles which this book has hinted at.
Well written, gripping story. This book had hardly any mistakes in it, great stuff. Loved reading it! The storyline was interesting, and there was real action, not the ordinary'he said, she said'
Outstanding! This book keeps it going, not a dull-paced book. I really enjoyed the characters and the story. Meadow overcomes many things in her young life, yet her love for Black Horse never wavers. A second part would be nice, hint, hint. :D
This was a very good book. Meadow and Black Horse were made for one another. Both have lots of strength and courage, and face many challenges, but their love endures nevertheless.
