Proofing this book before giving to my nephews for Christmas. The battles are told with the factual details, even if those details are gory, but without the writing lingering in a gruesome manner that would be inappropriate for the target age-range.
Content Note: Quotes from soldiers are kept entirely accurate, including any language. D*** and h*** are the most common. No S*** or f-bombs. If you are uncomfortable with your younger boys reading that kind of language, you may wish to proof with a black market on hand.
this series is the best history book ever! my favorite is this one the civil war. It has a chapter for all the big or important battles. This book also has some really good pictures or paintings of different generals or battles
Great resource to go with Civil War units. It reviewed all of the major battles and prime players of the war. It was not too gruesome, but definitely had hard parts to read. Ages 9-14.
Read this book with my nephew this summer as he is getting into the Civil War. Great summary of all the battles in the conflict, but I loved how each chapter included a section of "Who fought here" where it went in depth with certain soldiers and personalities. The greatest comment from my nephew was, can we read another book together!
This book is an excellent primer to the battles, warfare, and personalities of the Civil War as the title suggest. An excellent resource for those in education or a fun read for those interested in the Civil War. The only complaint is that the author at some points romanticizes the South and its cause as states rights not chattel slavery, but I would not let those things keep you from reading this excellent resource.
This is very detailed and very informative. I didn't know some of the stuff about the Civil War. Like the fact the Civil War was the bloodiest war for America. I didn't even know about most of the sea battles.
Good overview of Civil War for kids. It doesn’t get into too much detail. I am disappointed in the small maps in the book. They are very hard to see. My son loved reading this book. Definitely a good read for a young historian.
I liked this book because their were really good parts. those were the only parts that I liked. Me personally, why I gave the book 3 stars is because their are a lot of hard and big words. And their were very exciting parts to. like where the people were and how people survived back then.
We are reading through this series in our homeschool. My son and daughter both love listening to these books. The amount of knowledge they get from me reading to them, surprises me. You ask either of them about the Civil War and they could give a good synopsis thanks to this book!
