When an artist comes to Bear Country School, Brother and Sister learn to draw just about everything in sight! They also learn that drawing is a function of seeing and analyzing what you see, and that "talent" is where you find it. Every child can be an artist with this book's Do-It! section, which shows how to draw the Bears and other great stuff from Bear Country.
Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
If your child likes the Berenstain Bears and art, this book combines both in a way guaranteed to get them drawing. There's some nice principles here about drawing as Brother and Sister learn about art.
Okay, so I have feelings about this one. The illustrations are classic Berenstain Bears adorable — I love the cozy, familiar style, and the bears are as cute as ever. 🐻✨ The “draw along” idea is fun, especially for younger readers who want to get creative.
That said… as someone a little older, I found the story and activities a bit simple and repetitive. It’s definitely charming and wholesome, but it didn’t really grab me or make me laugh out loud like some of the other Berenstain Bears books I’ve read.
Three stars because it’s sweet, creative, and perfect for kids who love drawing and interactive stories, but not super exciting for older readers. Still a solid, cute read.
