I 'm very lucky to have the indulgence of time and space to enable me to write. I took a sabbatical from work to accompany my partner on his bucket list travels and adventures, and never went back. I really thought I would struggle with all the free time, so decided to write to keep myself occupied. Now writing has consumed my time and I am never sure where we will be or when, hence my novels could be classed 'international' as they may have been written across a few countries. We are still travelling, although we do pop back to the UK for a few months every now and again.

I love the fact that no matter what our age we can use new technology to connect to the rest of the world and enhance our lives. Back in the UK I have my friends and family and with emails, phones, skype or face-time, we are never out of touch for long. Even my mother at eighty-six uses face-time to catch up with me. I have the world at my fingertips and only twenty-four hours away from anywhere.

Being a 'mature aging gracefully' woman, I feel akin to the problems of aging and relationships. I spent many years on my own before finding my truly remarkable and very patient partner who I happily gave up my whole world for. My stories are about mature relationships with mature people. People who have character and humour, who have a history; people just like us.

I like to call it Hen Lit, not Chick Lit, but it is not just about falling in love. They are about real relationships.

I hope you enjoy my stories. Please check my web page or social media pages if you would like to contact me. I love emails and try to answer every one as soon as possible.

Allyson Abbott's new book is a must-have for writers who are considering self-publishing. It has so much fabulous information in it -- from writing and editing to formatting the book to creating a cover to step-by-step instructions of how to go through the self-publishing process. She presents the information in a light, easy-to-read style with a lot of humor injected that will hold your attention as she takes you through the entire process. And the biggest help may be the dozens and dozens of helpful websites that she includes every step of the way. Beginning authors will treasure this book!

Drat it all, after reading this book, I not only want to finish my story, I want to publish it!! I now have no excuse for letting it languish in the back of my closet. With How to Navigate the Path From Writing to Publishing, by Allyson R. Abbott, I not only know how to do it, but, I know that I can do it.
Ms. Abbott lays out the steps to publishing in a logical, clear and easy to follow way. I am very enthused by this book!!! It gives great insight and lots and lots of help in the form of links. So easy to follow!!! I think even I might be able to do it. I am so glad I took the time to read this book. There is so much information in it, I will have to take a second, third and even a fourth read through it and even then, I probably will not get it all. this book is really all you would ever need to publish a book. It points the way clearly and concisely and gives access to many, many options. It is written in sections, with each section clearly labeled.
I particularly liked that the author told us the platforms and sites she has used. But, she presented us with other options as well. In addition, she gave both the ups and downs of each platform and site so you can form a relatively unbiased opinion of each. I really felt that this was an exceptionally well written and concise book. I am an aspiring author and this book is just the inspiration I need to complete y first novel and publish it!!! Thank you Ms. Abbott.

If you are looking for advice on how to write, this book is the place to go. Allyson R. Abbott clearly and concisely describes her advice for writers, both amateurs and more experienced writers. Each section is informative yet brief. it was also presented well, with examples of pictures, pie charts and hyperlinks. With its friendly tone and helpful tips, this book is a must read for writers. The personal feel and first person narrator and experiences of editing and publishing help to engage the reader and also alleviates some of the patronising tones found in other books like this. It explains the detailed struggles of writing and editing and publishing in a personal but humorous way.
As a creative writing student at university myself, I found it extremely help for advice about tips with grammar, plot and also with title names which even fro short story writing, I have always struggled with. It also finally explained the process of indenting paragraphs to me (which I have never understood but several lecturers have commented I need to do). it also included many helpful links to other websites and books to have a look at. this was alongside several new types of software for editing (which I shall try) and for publishing which I had never heard of. Informative and engaging. The explanations of Microsoft word changes and editing software and how to work the websites were helpful and also explained easily even for someone like me who isn't so tech savvy. The additional definitions of different book genres were simple yet delightful which I enjoyed. the links to YouTube were a nice touch, making the advice accessible in video formats which is available for everyone. Easy to read. Instructions and advice that were clear easy to understand. I also liked the feel of the step by step guide with the bullet points and the division of the book into small sections. With these sections it felt more of a personal process than some of the other flat types of this kind of book which I preferred. This also helps when I was rereading it and looking for a specific section on editing, making things quick to find. I also loved the last section of where to find help online Overall, a delightful, instructive and informative read and I would give it five stars.

How To Navigate The Path from Writing to Publishing: A 'Go To' Handbook for Indie Authors (Calling all Authors 1)
By: Allyson R. Abbott
5 out of 5 stars

The book How To Navigate The Path from Writing to Publishing: A 'Go To' Handbook for Indie Authors (Calling all Authors 1) is a wonderfully written book that is a step-by-step guide to getting your book published. It is a book that makes the process easy to understand. The author starts out describing the writing process such as the different genres and then goes to the next steps after you have written “The End.” I never knew there was so much that went into getting a book published and I have a new appreciation for authors and what they go through to get a book into my hands. I can only describe their dedication to getting published as amazing. The author has put so much detail into her book and tells of her own experiences when writing so it gives the book a more personal feeling. There are also a lot of helpful links given and a helpful terminology glossary as well. It is also nice that so many different options are presented and it allows the writer to choose what would be best for them. If I ever decide to write and publish a book this is the book I would reference and use constantly. I have read several of the author's books. Some of them are works of fiction and one had wonderful advice on leaving book reviews. I enjoy her writing style and the characters that she creates as well as the knowledge she gives on both the subjects of book reviews and the journey that is taken to publish a book. I can’t wait to read the next book she writes.

Author Allyson R. Abbott’s book, How to Navigate the Path from Writing to Publishing, has a kindly voice that beckons much like a bygone relative that you will never get the chance to meet again; it has a sound that speaks of knowledge. The content within its pages is extensive and thorough, ranging from the steps it takes to publishing on specific formats, such as CreateSpace, Smashwords, and Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing, to name just a few, to platforms that writers may find to be integral when designing a cover. The content I’ve mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg.

How to Navigate the Path from Writing to Publishing by Allyson R. Abbott is another book that I felt grateful to get my hands on. There is so much information out there on the internet that it can be a bit paralyzing when you’re a new writer, or even an old pro, working out which information is helpful and which information perhaps isn’t as helpful. Everything you find in this book will be like finding a hidden gem, if you are not already familiar with some of the links she references or the processes that she goes into depth explaining. For new writers or seasoned professionals who are wanting to step into the pond of digitizing their books, it’s often difficult to decipher where you should go and what steps you should take to publish, if self-publishing is the direction that you are headed in. I know that I would have benefited greatly if I had read this book before I decided to crash course my way through the world of self-publishing. If you’re a writer or wanting to write that next great American novel, grab this book. You’re going to need it, and I promise you’re going to love it.

“How to Navigate the Path from Writing to Publishing” is a pretty good read when you are curious about becoming a writer. I think the hardest thing for myself when it comes to writing is finding time. The author, just like everyone else I have talked to says to “set a time frame every day where you will sit down and write”. With that said, it is still pretty hard to do with my nights being all different with 3 kids and their extra-curricular activities. Anyway back to the book, I felt like the author really did know what she was talking about and I really liked that she added her own journey and how she started writing in the first place. I also think it is good that she did not really sugar coat the process. Anyone can write and can even be a great writer. However, not everyone will be noticed and on the top 10 list or the next Stephen King. That does not mean you should give up trying. Another great thing this author did was give the reader the web-cites and information that she used herself and the fact that most authors are willing to help each other out. It is not necessarily a cut throat business even though all writers are fighting to become published. She also gives the reader different strategies in writing and just gives a lot of helpful information. This is a great “go-to” when it comes to working on your book, short stories, novels etc… It is a lot of information to take in all at once, but the great thing is that you can always go back and read which area you are needing help with or finding the sources you are looking for again and again. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is working on writing and/or wanting to get started writing a book/short story/poems etc…

This is a really well put together, informative and extremely helpful guide on how to self-publish. It includes every step of the way from writing your book, to editing, then formatting, creating a cover, the publishing process, what software is available to help the process, as well as avenues for promoting your work.
This is a ‘one-stop-shop’ for everything you may need to know about the process. It includes helpful hints and insights garnered from the author's own journey of writing and publishing. There are resource tools and a plethora of website links to help you along every stage of the way. Ms. Abbott streamlines and simplifies what could otherwise be an intimidating/daunting process. This guide can be used for publishing eBooks as well as paperbacks. In this day and age, kindle, eBooks and social media can become quite powerful tools for authors, especially Indie Authors. This book will make you want to be an author!!
How to Navigate the Path from Writing to Publishing A ‘Go To’ Handbook for the Indie Author by Allyson R. Abbott is a reference guide to help anyone with writing and publishing a book.
With this book she teaches how to go from writing your book to who, what and where to start with the publication.
In the book Allyson R. Abbott starts with writing, book genres, book lengths, book types and the writing process. Then she goes onto editing, and formatting. From here she will teach about book covers. The section on step - by - step publishing is very informative and then author support. So as you can see you can learn a lot from this book and I think it would be a fantastic reference. I like how all through the book she gave references that you can use for more information. This book is so clear and precise and gives so many clues to becoming an author.

How to Navigate the Path from Writing to Publishing by Allyson Abbott was a really informative read and did exactly what it said it would on the front cover. Although there was a lot of information provided, it was not difficult to take in. From editing to choosing a cover, everything was there.
I particularly liked the hyperlinks to useful websites so that the reader could go and do their own research in their own time. As an aspiring independent author I was keen to learn as much as I could and this book definitely gave me what I was looking for. I enjoyed the tips on choosing your genre as well as the examples of covers and choosing keywords for Amazon. It demystified the idea of 99c books and “free” books for me and also explained to me what I could get out of Amazon Prime/ Kindle Unlimited as a writer.
I will be referring back to this book as my own book approaches publication stage and I would definitely recommend it to aspiring authors who are looking to “just get some work out there”.
Thank you for an honest appraisal of the industry and for illustrating the highlights and the pitfalls for those of us who are all new to it and haven’t thought further than getting our stories down on paper.

Have you ever wanted to write a book and then publish it? Sounds easy right? Just some words to paper or fingers to keys and press print…Not. So. Fast. According to award winning author, Allyson R. Abbott there is a process. A process she has put into one book! I would like to call this writing and publishing for dummies, but that title is probably already taken. Abbott has put a call out to any author or want to be author! From writing and editing to covers and actually publishing. Allyson Abbott has thought of everything!

After reading this handy book, I feel like I could successfully publish a good book…now if I only had something to write about!

This review is more of a Thank you. Thank you from an author’s point of view (I can only imagine since I am not an author nor do I pretend to be one). Thank you from a reader’s point of view as now I know the hard work you go through. Not so easy.
I recommend this book to all aspiring authors.

Calling All Authors: The Path from Writing to Publishing A Go To Handbook for the Indie Author is written by Allyson R. Abbott. I found this book really interesting surprisingly. I didn’t think I would honestly be that into it but it was actually very informative. Allyson R. Abbott starts by talking about writing in general: genres, lengths, types and the process of writing. This mixed with the other information like editing, proofreading, covers, etc. It really put into perspective how much authors do and go through from start to finish for the entire writing process.
As part of the process to help Allyson R. Abbott explains a lot of stuff that I didn’t know much about like the different terminologies and jargon that comes with being an author. What I love most is that Allyson R Abbott explains it so clearly and thoroughly so that you fully understand what you are reading.

This book is a must have how to guide for anyone wanting to self publish or anyone who may be interested in the process. It is a very clear and concise guide that is easy to read with all jargon explained clearly so that you can get to the grit of the subject without feeling overwhelmed.

Even though this a book of instructions, the author give it a personal feel as if they are talking to you while sat having coffee. There is also some humour thrown in and I liked how the explanations of things came over so I didn't feel stupid. The author also allows for the fact that some people reading this may be complete amateurs were as others may have some level of knowledge on the matter.

This book would definitely be a well used reference manual for those branching out in this area.

This book was very informative! As a person who might want to write a book someday, this information was very interesting to read. There is a lot that goes behind the scenes into publishing a book.

There was lots of things I didn’t know about such as the process of uploading an ebook or publishing a paperback. I’ve always wondered how Amazon worked in regards to books and why there are deals and such. It was a fascinating read and definitely a MUST READ for anyone considering to publish a book.

It is filled with helpful links and even links to explain certain words and terms used in the publishing world.

There were times where it got repetitive and I felt like I already read that but it was just because of all the different places you can use to publish books through. It’s clearly divided into sections so if you were in different processes of publishing that you can easily find what you need.

WOW Allyson wrote this book just for me!!!!
I don't really ever read anything that is non fiction, but I have been thinking of getting one of the stories I wrote published. Luckily I stumbled across this book.
Now I can't make anymore excuses.
The step by step and how to get from a to b is explained perfectly and so fool proof even this fool (point's to self) can now actually fulfill my dream of becoming a published author.
If you are thinking of getting published and even if your only starting to write now, I highly recommend that you get this book.
