The story about Max the little green monster who realized that it would start with him to help clean up the ocean. Max recognized that the trash had to come from somewhere and tracks down the sources. He gives explanations on what you can do to cut back oceanic pollution. And uplifts the readers to take action for the ocean.

This story is about how you can change your environment with just a little effort and small changes.

I think this story is a very good choice to read to children, and it even informed me a little about things I could do to change the way I get rid of trash. I did not think about the car oil going into drains, and all of the other small things you overlook. So this is a good book to open awareness for children in an exciting way.

I recommend this book to any teacher raising awareness or just in general. I think it gave good pictures, and kept it simple to entertain. I now know more about pollution and I think a child might take a small step in remembering to recycle or clean up after him/herself to be a little bit like Max the green monster who took control to clean up the oceans.

Summary: I Can Save the Ocean is a book about a little green monster who cleans up the beach. The book begins with Max the little green monster swimming in the ocean but not being about to enjoy it because of all the plastic bags, empty bottles, broken toys and trash in the ocean. Max then decides to find out where all the chemicals and trash are coming from and discovers they come from simple things such as washing paint off brushes, washing cars, plastic wrappers, etc. He then decides to change the way he lives by using reusable bags, drinks from reusable water bottles, using biodegradable sunscreen and picking up any litter he can find. At the end, Max teaches all his friends to be green "monsters" and help save the ocean.

Theme: I think one of the themes for this book is no one is too small to make a difference in the world. This theme is portrayed throughout the book by calling Max the "little" green monster but in reality he accomplished big events by finding the sources of the litter and trash and putting a stop to them. Max changed the way he lived and influenced his friends to live cleaner lives as well.

Personal Response: I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book because it teaches children at a young age to have respect for the Earth and environment around them. I remember as a child my school required us to recycle and clean up trash on streets as a community service project, which taught me to not liter and live a "green" life. I even enjoyed how the book used words such as biodegradable and litter but defined the meaning in the back of the book for children to get a better understanding.

Recommendation: I would greatly recommend this book to children of all ages because even though it is a children's book the meaning behind the book is extremely powerful. In addition, children need to learn how they can give back to the Earth and treat it properly. I also think children can relate to being the main character, Max, and even though small they can do mighty things!

Max and his friends don’t like cleaning up after themselves after they have a beach picnic, the go scuba diving and meet friends in the ocean. He sees what his carelessness and littering has done to the ocean. The Little Green Monsters go on an adventure to clean and protect the beach. This picture book shows kids how they can have an direct influence the environment. It shows easy ways to keep the environment clean. It shows incite to how leaving trash and litter around can impact animals. Would be a good way to incorporate the environment into a classroom. Many activities can be made after reading this book. Asking children how they can help save the environment and little changes each of them can make. The pictures in this book are colorful and fun to look at .

This is such a fun book and really straight forward for children! My intention was to use this book to present a literacy lesson to my Early Childhood class (I am a ECE student) but we were not able to get it in time, but it is PERFECT for teaching kids about pollution, littering and keep the oceans and land clean and safe for everyone!
