This book was like inception, Sal was telling an story to us about her telling a story to her grandparents about her life. You get to see all of the layers play out like a sandwich. And the lesson is taught by every single layer. in a different way. You find out at the very end that that the entire story was a metaphor- Sal knew her mother died. But she was able to be there for her grandma, and it shows how much the people in our lives matter, and to cherish them, but let them go when their time comes.
Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech is a very well written book about Salamanca Tree Hiddle aka- Sal. She tells a story about a road trip she recently took with Gram and Gramps from Ohio to Idaho. In the car, they are headed west to find Sal's mother in time for her birthday. During the trip, Sal tells her grandparents about her friend Phoebe's story about her missing mother. Through out the whole story Sal goes back and forth from the trip to telling Phoebe's story. Walk Two Moons is a mystery, quest, and a love story that really gets you reading. I truly recommend that you read this book.
"You can't keep the birds of sadness from flying over your head, but you can keep them from nesting in your hair." "Everyone has their own agenda." "YOu cannot understand a man, until you have walked two moons in his mocassins." I LOVED this book, it was great!

Walk Too Moons by Sharon Creech is the story of Sal and her grandparents on a roadtrip from Ohio to Idaho. This story is a mystery, quest, and a love story that will invite anyone to join in on this roadtrip. I have always loved this book. While growing up, it was one of my favorites. I am unsure though how I would use this book in a therapy session. It would be neat though to try and figure out a way to do so!
This book broke my heart not once, not twice—but three times. It felt like I was triple-killed by the pain, the tenderness, and the grief in its pages. One scene that stayed with me was when Sal’s grandmother said she married her husband because of how he loved and cared for his dog, Hildie. That kind of gentle, quiet love? It hit me right in the soul.
But nothing prepared me for the ending. When I finally learned the truth about Salamanca’s mother, I cried like I was in mourning. The sorrow was so deep, it was almost too much for my heart to carry. It was beautiful, but oh—it hurt.🥹🥺
My heart is still crying even tho' I read it months ago🥹✨🤌
I'm choosing to DNF this book. I picked it up in June due to my mother buying me this book for what reason, I have no clue. This book is a lower grade book and could be the next book someone loves... if they are 12 or something. I personally don't care for any of the characters and it felt very.. out of date to me. There's nothing wrong with that as it was published in 1994. It just is very slow-paced to me and I just really didn't bother to finish it after picking up a different book. If you want a quick read, I say give this book a shot however, I just don't care for this book nor its writing style. My mother had good intentions when buying me this book however it's not my type of book and I just don't ever see me finishing it. I tried to pick it back up to finish it before the end of the year but I just could not get back into it and got bored with it really quickly and closed the book and put it in the huge stack of books I have read/DNF/finished. Do not let my review of this book change your feelings about wanting to read it. You should give this book a shot like I did to see if you will enjoy it or not.
"Walk Two Steps" away from this book. Then run. An award-winning (why???) book that promises a Native American theme with the cover and title and doesn't follow through. Maybe the author waved a feather over it while writing, or something. I suppose it did help with sales, or perhaps that's why it got the marks it did with educators. The plot was random and pointless, the characters painfully thin, dialogue stilted, and it wasn't at all engaging.
Why are they making kids in school read this? Aren't there enough mean 4th grade teachers out there already?
A wonderful story told as only an imaginative young girl! Many life lessons told through her adventures, heart break and her need to imagine what is going on as she learns to comprehend a world that had lost much of its meaning.
