You can't keep a great indie anthology down! The boys at Indie Spinner Rack have been producing the premiere indie comics podcast for over three years, and in 2007 produced the aptly-titled Awesome anthology. Now they're back, along with a few dozen of their friends and favorite guests... who happen to be some of the greatest cartoonists in the industry! This second Awesome collection is edited by Charlito and Mr. Phil, hosts of Indie Spinner Rack, and designed once again by Eisner nominee Jonathan Adams. Contributors include Chris Duffy, Sarah Glidden, Fred Van Lente and Ryan Dunlavey, Jonathan Hickman, Jeff Lemire, Ted McKeever, Aaron Renier, Alex Robinson, and MANY more -- with a cover by the legendary Jeff Smith!
Not as good as the first one. Also had one page printed upside-down, which, come on, how is that acceptable? Mostly work by unknowns and recent grads of CCS, a couple familiar creators but nothing really amazing. Came with a little mini-comic attached to the back cover which leaves a spot that looks like you dropped bacon on it after you remove it. I guess it's all for a good cause, though.
As far as comic collections go, this was one mediocre and boring; I found most of the stories to be too short and quite lacking, and a surprising number of the authors in this collection elected to use language that bordered on being racist and rather sexist.
