Megan wasn't disposed to think much of Jerome Towers even before she had met him—all she knew about him was that he was the new squire that he wanted to take over her family's farm and that he was a first class snob.

Synopsis Even before she knew him personally, Megan disliked Jerome Towers, the wealthy landowner plotting to buy out her family's farm.
And when she eventually did meet him, he was as arrogant as she'd expected. Quite unexpectedly, though, she became deeply captivated with him—enough to care what he thought of her in return.
She certainly didn't want him to discover that she'd been accused of a scandalous relationship with his half brother, Roddy. But to her utter dismay, Jerome's opinion of her just seemed to grow worse and worse ....
Ew.
Ok in all fairness, this was published in 1981, so I should have realized going into it that there'd be a disgustingly overbearing hero, and a wishy washy moron of a heroine.
But still.
Ew.
Had I had the webcam on while reading it, you'd have seen a look of incredulity and disgust on my face for the majority of this story.
And can I just reiterate how much I hate for a main character of a romance novel to be actively involved in a romantic relationship with anyone other than the hero/heroine? Our hero had a girlfriend, and the heroine had a boyfriend, and it seemed like everyone in the bloody story thought nothing of kissing all up on everyone else. Call me a prude if you will, but to me, if you're married, kissing is adultery *shakes head*
Anyway, the hero was overbearing to a fault (and not in a delicious "alpha male" way, but rather in a blatantly misogynistic way), and the heroine was incredibly immature and wishy washy.
The premise had such great potential, but I feel like it really fell short. Again though, it was published in 1981 and from what I understand it seems to be pretty typical for the period. Next time I'll check publishing dates before I start reading.
"Point of No Return" is the story of Megan and Jerome.
OH MY GOD THIS WAS SO BAD!!!
WHY DID THE HEROINE KEEP QUIET ABOUT THE REPEATED SEXUAL ASSAULT BY THE HERO'S STEPBROTHER?! SHE GOT FIRED BECAUSE OF HIM, HE TRIED TO RAPE HER AND THEN SPREAD RUMORS ABOT HER BEING A WHORE. SHE RETURNS TO HER TOWN- HE TRIES TO BLACKMAIL HER MANY TIMES AND FORCES HIS KISSES ON HER. IN THE END, HE TRIES TO MOLEST HER AGAIN. WTF WAS SHE DOING KEEPING QUIET ABOUT A RAPIST?
And a measly apology makes her forgive him?! Everyone slut shames her and she takes it? She lies to protect everyone but herself- keeps decieving the hero and pretends to love him- accepts his slut shaming and propositions...ARGH. So yes, the evil perishes at the end, and things suddenly work out- but this was absolutely disgusting.
I was a teen when I read this. I think I need to read it again because I can't recall if the MC's had sex. I do remember enjoying all the angst a lot though and I absolutely hated the hero's stepbrother. He was such a spineless nasty lecherous villain.
A more detailed review will be done after a re-read.
How many misunderstandings SHOULD there be in one book, I ask you?
Then he had a girlfriend whom he broke up with WHILE she was visiting him. He even told her that the heroine was the reason. I know they had a no-strings relationship, but seriously? He even asked the ex to keep the heroine entertained while she was stuck in a hotel room in London.
Just freaking ew!
Only good part...the redemption of the sleezy step-brother of the hero. Before he died, he was shaping up to be a troubled soul who just needed a little love and a LOT of therapy.
I think i have said this before...Carole Mortimer is one of my favourite authors.. and she didn`t dissapoint me on this one.
The hate-love relationship between the stubborn Heroine Megan and the arrogant Hero Jerome Towers were so entertaining and hot and i just LOVE every scene with them together.
I know that many dislike this book because of too many supporting characters, and the mistress so weirdly involved, but it worked great for me. There are many scenes involved jealous-scenes,hot kissing,almost-rape-scenes and angsty. I felt very bad for Jerome in the end,it so showed that he loves her very much and to see her break his heart just made me want to shout in pain. Poor Jerome...but he did get his woman in the end!
the book gave me a bad headache ! der were three men mad for megan and so many secondary characters involved! megan was at the heart of this whole mess while jerome cud only think dat he had fallen for the town slut! it was all so comical megan being a virgin and all, yet not behaving like one. the book does entertain but in a dreadful way. one of the brothers actually died in the end after an attempted rape. only then the fiasco did end :S
Huge misunderstandings, jumping to wrong conclusions, passionate embraces, angry kisses, nasty fights with cruel words, jealousy and possessiveness- I must confess this type of books is my guilty pleasure. They can be crazy and silly but never dull.
This story had every element in it. The main male character was amazingly lovable and generous. The twist was not expected, but made the tale a real love story.
