How could she have been so very naive?

When Stacy Adams discovered the true identity of Jake Weston, the "dreamy" man she had started seeing, she was furious. He had deliberately misled her!

But she found she couldn't resist the power of his charms for long. And he was intensely honest about his own attraction to her.

Then Stacy realized just how foolish she had been to let herself get involved with him. Handling his jealous temper was one difficulty. But suspecting that Jake was a married man set matters in an entirely different dimension!

Heroine is 19, an actress, a smokin’ hot redhead. Her co-star wants her fired since she wouldn’t go out with him (OM#1). Another co-star wants out of the friend zone. (OM#2).

Then there is the hero, the writer who wrote the pirate-raping extravaganza heroine is starring in. Heroine thinks hero is working for the reclusive writer because he is tall and hot and everyone knows writers are middle-aged and fat. She is angry when hero finally confesses he is the big man and not a lowly employee.

Has your IQ dropped just reading that? Don’t worry, the heroine’s stupidity is not contagious.

Hero was smitten from the time he saw heroine’s screen test. He has traveled from the US to England just to meet her. He is not happy to see so many men interested in her. When OM 1 tries to rape the heroine (after she gives him a second chance to prove that he’s a nice guy), hero rescues her but then can’t decide if the heroine brought it on herself or not.

The slut shaming in this one is off the charts as both OMs and the H accuse h of being a tease.

We are given the H’s backstory about 2/3 of the way into story from his lawyer who is trying to soothe the heroine after yet another fight. Hero’s wife of 20 years (you got that right – hero has been married longer than heroine has been alive) was a nymphomaniac and an alcoholic. Hero never divorced her because they had a son who died of leukemia when he was 12. After hero saw heroine’s screen test, he decided to divorce his wife, but she committed suicide before he had a chance. That’s why he’s so suspicious of the virgin heroine.

After hearing his story (from a third party) heroine is understanding, but hero is still angry she hit him and left scratches on his face. When heroine plays the rape scene with OM 1, he assaults her for real. Hero pulls him off, but is still jealously angry with the h. Heroine makes it worse by riding back to London with OM2.

Four months pass with the heroine losing weight and not leaving the house. When she doesn’t show up for the premiere of the film, hero finally seeks her out.

They marry a month later, but heroine is worried about hero’s jealousy when they return from their honeymoon. She is reassured when a stranger rubs sunscreen on her back (LOL) and hero sees them and doesn’t leap to conclusions.

Yes, guys still fall all over the heroine and she just can’t understand why they’re acting so strangely. But hero is a secure man now that sexual healing as solved everything.

Okay, now my IQ is affected from reading this nonsense. Save yourself and don’t bother with this one.

"Brand of Possession" is the story of Stacy and Jake.

Another CM gem with an utterly smitten H who is obsessed with a strong but stubborn h, and sparks fly. He is an author, she an actress. There is crazy jealousy with every OP, a creepy rapey OM, lots of bruising kisses and yearning, along with witty banter. The reason this isn't a five star is the callousness with which attempted rape and molestation was dealt with in this book, and the h was once told people would just watch as she was raped by the OM for revenge as OM was a big star. I felt that if it was handled with more sensitivity, and the h was not sent back time and again to the man who assaulted her, this would have been a much better book.

With thinking that are better left in the 80's, an average read.

Safe..ish

She was always mad, so I found her tiresome.
- No love scenes.
- Book had an amateur author vibe, this must be one of authors earliest books.

- 20 yr age gap.

Nineteen year old leading lady, multiple pseudo-rape scenes, a leading man with a jealousy problem. No...

This one was old skool in the extreme.
The H is an older man who "fell in love" with the h via a recording when she auditioned for his movie. Unfortunately he was married at the time and had been for years and years so he decided to divorce her so that he would be free to stalk the h.
in a deus machina moment the wife overdoses and dies so that the H is conveniently free and doesn't have to feel guilty that he caused it because he never got round to asking for the divorce. Its really quite sad as they had a child who would have been same age as h but who died of leukemia. She was a terrible wife but a great mum by all accounts :(
H also possesses a jealous streak a mile wide which in the end turns the h off because he goes cray cray. There is also a rapey OM who never gets his comeuppance although the h does show a serious lack in judgement when she decides to trust him one night to get back at the H and it ends predictably with her being attacked. TBF he was convincing in his offer of friendship as an actor buts he should have known better.
St Margarets has all the deets and I thank her for bringing this one to my attention resulting in me bumping it up my TBR pile.

Well... I chose to read this book because the first time I read a Carole Mortimer's book was one of her oldies, and I liked it. I have read other reviews and there are readers whom think CM's old stuff is better than her new one, and I agree with that, I don't like too much her new books.
This book started very good in my opinion, but then it started to slow down :( there were some angsty moments, but there were others kind of "lazy". It had a lot of sexual tention, but any sex scene between the heroine and the hero was described in detail. It was at the end when it was mention the consummate their love but that was all ñ_ñ I liked more the hero than the heroine, sometimes I wanted to slap her hahahah. The hero was very jealous and possessive.
It was an entertaining read, but it wasn't amazing.
I will check other oldies by CM I have in my to-read shelve and see If I would love them, I want to read something I don't want to stop reading it and that happened to me with this book, but I didn't think to abandon it ;)

This was once one of harlequin’s best sellers. Icky, jealous H eventually gets the h. She started off wise but turned into a blob when he told her he loved her and would try to control his jealous rage. Not a good idea.

"Brand of Possession" is about the independent beautiful actress Stacy Adams and the devilishly attractive author Jake Weston.Their love-story starts with a burning fire that will intensify with threatingly exploding flames.

He stilled her struggles. 'Yes, you owe it to me!' he said savagely. 'I've stood back while you've flirted with Day and Forbes, given them the pleasure you deny me, and I'm not going to stand back and watch any longer. You're very deceptive on film, Stacy, I felt sure you were as innocent as you look. And yet you're constantly with one man or another.'

'No, Jake, that isn't true! Matthew-—'

'I don't want to hear about your other men,' he snapped, standing up with her held firmly in his arms. 'Tonight I'm going to be the only man on your mind. Going on the amount of men you have interested in you here alone I would say that innocent look of yours hides an experience that could prove very entertaining.'

This is another book i have come to love by Carole. The romance is electrifying and beautiful and the intense scenes between the hero and heroine was HELLUVA HOT.There is lots of angsty and much to enjoy.Jake Weston is a true Alpha-hero who feels intense jealousy every time a man as so watches Stacy.Truly love his honesty and how he never hides his love to the heroine.

Stacy meets a man named Jake, not knowing he is actually Jake Weston a famous author/producer. She begins to date him and really enjoy his company when she finds out that he is truly Jake Weston, the one whom had come down to monitor her and the other cast members working on his film.

When Stacy finds out he is Jake, she tries to cut him out of her life and actually letting him believe she was interested in other various males. Which just makes Jake possessive, jealous and sometimes go into rage fits, all because he is truly in love with her.

When someone from the cast tries to rape her, the same man she is suppose to do a rape scene, Jake will prove how much he cares about her.

Pretty high intense emotions in this novel but overall a decent read.

It was okay.

The hero had issues (though he kind of had his reasons).

The guy on the cover looks like Ridge from The Bold and the Beautiful (is that soap opera still on?)

The movie the characters were making seemed pretty stupid, like an old bodice ripper.

The villain of the book never got what he deserved, so that sucks.

At least the H and h got a HEA, even if he's still working through his issues.

OH, and he was way older than her, like double her age.

An author I have always loved.
But this was just an average read.
I found the heroine Stazy a bit too juvenile. Add impetuous and naive to the mix.
Hero Jake is double her age. Plus he's been married before. Unhappily.

The title of this book should be "A Parade of Idiots."
All the characters are exceptionally stupid, the writing from an otherwise well established writer was almost high school-ish, and everything about the book started to get super annoying. Even the part where the hero came to confess his love was cringe-inducing.

Loved this book. Loved Jake. He was jealous/controlling/possessive, a typical favourite of mine. The heroine was a virgin of 19 but she possessed a backbone, something very few harlequin woman possess. Haha. Loved the sexual tension and dialogues between Jake and Stacy. It was a fun and spicy read.

I liked the hero more than the heroine, she was a bit childish in her actions andI wanted to hit her... Hard. The story is well developed and it has a good ending but I felt something was missing here...

Actress Stacy Adams has no idea that Jake, the gorgeous man she's recently met, is the writer of the film she has a small part in.

An OK story. Not one of my fave M&B books - although Carole Mortimer IS one of my favourite M&B authors - but still worth 3 stars.

I like Carole Mortimer - I always have loved her books.
I enjoy the Old School HQPs a lot, for the most part.
I'm usually forgiving and open-minded about the Old School books.
This one made me cringe on so many levels.
Could not justify reading beyond Chapter 3. That was time I will never get back.
