She was old enough to know the facts of love

Chelsea's father had packed her off to London to distance her from the shock waves surrounding her mother's death. He couldn't have known that a further shock awaited her there . . . .

It was bad enough that Chelsea's childhood idol didn't immediately recognize her. But she hadn't recognized him either! Lucas's capacity for love and laughter seemed to have disappeared.

Lucas might be years ahead of Chelsea in experience, but as far as she was concerned, he couldn't know the first thing about love without realizing that you can't fight it--not when it's the real thing.

What can I say about Carole Mortimer’s “Cherish Tomorrow”? Sadly, that I wasn’t really feeling this one. The romance aspect of the book was fine, kind of adorable, actually, with a very young heroine, Chelsea, in pursuit of the much older hero, Lucas. She knows she wants her man and is willing to fight for him. I really wish the hero and heroine could have had a better book to go along with their romance. It was the story that had me going, huh?

Chelsea’s mother has just suddenly died, and since her father is a famous tv celebrity, he dispatches her from California to England to get away from the press. He sends her to stay with Lucas, an old family friend, whom Chelsea hasn’t seen since she was 12 and he was 27 when she had a HUGE crush on him. Kind of creepy, but whatever. Since they haven’t seen each other in years, neither recognizes the other, leading to a bit of a misunderstanding that’s quickly cleared up. He thinks she’s a hooker on the prowl; she thinks he’s an uptight prig.

Chelsea upturns Lucas’s staid life, from his disapproving housekeeper, to his very disapproving mistress. But the sparks fly between the two, and Chelsea quickly realizes she’s in love and will do what she has to to make Lucas believe her love is true.
That was the good part of the book.

The bad part?

(And don’t forget all this while falling in love in a week)

I’d have at least some turbulent emotions to deal with and wouldn’t be as happy-go-lucky. But maybe it’s me, and I’m just a judgemental, emotional curmudgeon.

Re Cherish Tomorrow - This one is a bit different for HPlandia, this is another CM May/December romance but it is the h and NOT the H that is setting out to get her man.

The h is 19 and was sent to stay at the 34 year old barrister H's home when her mother dies. Her father and mum were divorced and the mum committed suicide - the dad was trying to shield the h from the attendant publicity and did not realize that she knew the mum had done it deliberately.

When the book opens, the h is knocked down by the H in front of his home, but they don't recognize each other. She follows him up to the penthouse as it is the address she was given, and the H accuses her of being a prostitute and tries to kick her out, then she threatens him with himself. Then they both recognize each other at the same time and the H tells her she can stay in the room his sister uses when she visits him.

The H has a girlfriend who isn't happy about the h staying there. The h also gets conned into talking about personal family details which wind up published in the local tabloid along with speculation about the H and h's relationship. The H and the grlfnd get into a huge fight and the h decides she is in love with the H and is going to win him from the OW.

She flirts with the H and there are plenty of passionate kisses, but the H keeps valiantly trying to resist as he thinks the h is too young. She resents being called immature, so she tries harder. Things come to a head when the H's sister shows up unexpectedly. The H and h finally wind up in bed together and then the h's dad arrives. He is fine with the H and h being together, the dad is chasing after the H's sister.

Turns out the h's dad had fallen in love with the sister years earlier, but the h's mum threatened suicide if the dad left her.
When the dad finally divorced the h's mum, he married the H's sister but did not tell the h, only the mum. The mum then decided to take a bunch of pills in a ploy to hurt the h's dad and manipulate the h - only everyone who was supposed to show up and save the mum did not, and then she died. Everyone feels really guilty about her death (except for the H who just feels bad about lurvin' up the h with her dad in the next room, so he kicks the h out of his bed.)

This sets off a little spat between the h and H so she takes off and the H figures out he is in love and the dad the sister are happy and every one hopes the dead mum is at peace. The h decides to be aggressive again and seduces the H some more for the HEA.

Not a bad book, more frivolous for this CM writing period than we have seen before, and for those who like the lady to do the chasing, the h definitely hits the goal. The H is suitably befuddled by the charm and magical allure of the lurve kitten h and the dialogue is fairly snappy with some good one liners. It probably isn't a keeper shelf forever book, but I wouldn't kick it out of bed either.

Wow, what can I say other than mood can definitely affect your opinion of a book. Sadly to say, on re-read, I couldn't stomach this one. It's a shame trees had to die to publish this story. I'm downgrading from 4 stars to 1 little tiny star.

I don't expect plausibility in my HP's, but this went beyond the pale.

My original review is below. "What was I thinking?"

This is a cute fast read...and has a unique twist to it...in that the heroine is the one doing all the chasing. But the author does a good job letting you know that he really does have the "hots" for the heroine but is acting reserved towards her due to the large age gap. He is 15 years her senior.

My only regret is that it ended too abruptly and I didn't feel as if they really worked through their issues.

4 ½ Stars! ~ This is a marvelous love story where the heroine is the one who is determined to make the hero hers, she wants him and she’s going to get him! Ms. Mortimer has created a thoroughly delightful heroine. Chelsea may be only 19 (as was the norm in the 80’s the heroines were very young) but she’s very mature and sure of herself. Lucas is 15 years older, and I know some may say ick, but this really works. What’s truly delightful is the way Chelsea keeps at him and doesn’t give him any way out. She lays her feelings out on the line as soon as she realizes she loves him, and he’s astonished and totally at a loss as to what to do with her. Lucas is a strong hero with a strong sense of right and wrong. Chelsea has a tough job in convincing him that she’s all grown up and knows what she wants. This was a refreshing change from Ms. Mortimer’s usually highly emotional love stories. Another for the keeper shelf!

Cute sweet romance and weirdly enough not angsty. That's a first for CM!

The h throws herself at the feet of the H. She chases him and he tries to keep her off. That’s because she is 19 and he is 34 and because he is a friend of her father.

But ultimately after she keeps saying she loves him and she keeps trying to seduce him, he surrenders and they have sex.

“Yeah, because no man could continue to say no to a beautiful young woman’s naked body begging him to have sex with her”, that’s what I thought. Maybe that’s too cynical, but I just didn’t feel that he loved her.

Actually every time she says she loves him (and that’s many times), he doesn’t say it back. He admits he doesn’t know what he feels for her. Until the end when he suddenly out of the blue realizes he loves her.

In this book the woman chases the man. I don’t like it when the woman does the chasing. I don’t find that romantic at all. I want the man to be crazy in love and to be relentlessly pursuing the woman. This story is the opposite.

But it is written well, so I’ll still give it 3 stars.

Okay, the lovey dovey comments at the end of the novel make my heart sing. I do so love the proper ending to a novel and this one certainly had it. It was a bit confusing with suicides, marriages that no one knows about, a reporter and so on and so forth but a good read.
