The Message: Job: Led by Suffering to the Heart of God, Eugene H. Peterson.
Delightful hardback book. I spent a day on a mountain and read this book. It is a record of intense quarrelling, accusations, court adjudications, summons, defence arguments, appeals to justice and precedent.
God’s answers sound very similar to the ‘friends’ and yet God finishes by saying those friends did not speak right, but Job did speak right.
Lots of references to lightning and thunder, with much Frankenstein-like dialogue.
Peterson says in his introduction: "Job suffered.. He refused to let God off the hook."
"Every time we let Job give voice to our own questions, our suffering gains in dignity and we are brought a step closer to the threshold of the voice and mystery of God."
Thank God for the servant work done by the late Eugene Peterson *****

Let me be frank - this is a sad book. I thought it would be a lot funnier than it ended up being. And, contrary to the title, it’s not really about finding and having and living with the stress of an occupation.
