Detective Virgil Jones #4

STATE OF DECEPTION

Rate this book
Virgil Jones is about to learn a lesson the hard way. When the ground beneath your feet begins to shift, it’s not the future you have to worry about. It’s the past.

A young female student has gone missing from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Patty Doyle is a Senior with her whole life ahead of her. In the middle of wrapping up her final semester she disappears without a trace, and what begins as a missing person’s case turns into something much more, not just for Patty, but for Virgil as well…

A few months ago Virgil’s best friend and brother, Murton Wheeler killed the man responsible for viciously attacking Virgil’s wife, Sandy, and their unborn son, Wyatt. Just before Murton pulled the trigger, DHS agent Paul Gibson and the governor arrive with information for Murton. Information that could either change his life forever, or end it…

A group of home-grown terrorists have everything they need to build and detonate a dirty bomb right in the middle of the heartland. The Department of Homeland Security wants Murton to do something he thought he’d never have to do again…go deep undercover and infiltrate a criminal organization. But at what cost, and in the end, who will pay the tab?

Virgil thought the murder and mystery of Shelby County was right where it belonged…in his rear-view mirror. He couldn’t have been more wrong.

State of Deception is Thomas Scott’s most ambitious novel to date, one that takes his unique storytelling, character development, and real-life dialogue to a whole new level.

You’ve felt the Anger.
You’ve experienced the Betrayal.
You’ve taken Control.

Now, it’s time to face the Deception.

New to the series? Start with State of Anger, as the books are meant to be read in order. While each book is a stand alone novel, there are no cliff-hangers.

Very good suspenseful thriller.

Virgil, is like a friend you have a chance to spend some time twice a year. He talks to you about his family and people he works with. Enjoy his stories, this one is very good story, thrilling mystery. His farm, dirty bom, and couple of three letter agencies.

I'M LEARNING NOT TO GET TOO CLOSE TO THE CHARACTRS IN THIS SERIES BECAUSE THE AUTHOR MAY JUST UP AND KILL THEM. THATS ABOUT THE ONLY THING I HATE ABOUT THIS SERIES. HOLY MOLY WHAT A RUSH!!! ;D

Another great addition to the series

With great characters, lots of humor, drama, angst, mystery, suspense, secrets, lies, emotional situations, and many unexpected twists and turns, this is certainly not a story that you will want to miss! It was definitely an intense, intriguing, and complex story that will keep you guessing until the end.
Although each book can be read as a stand alone, I would highly recommend that you start from the beginning of the series. There is a sequence of events that happens in each story that kind of sets up the next story, and secondary plots that continues through each book as well. There are very brief summaries throughout each story about previous situations that will help those who have not read the previous stories, but I think that you would have a better understanding of everything if you read the entire series.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and terrific author.

I wondered if he had FORGOTTEN about her........

I think that's the problem with having several different 'layers' of stories going at the same time. Has any writer ever missed following up on a "thread" that they started? Mmmm?
If I had started with this book of the series, there were enough "tid-bits" about what had gone before that I would Have had to have searched out those books and read them also!
As I finished the 4th and am looking for the 5th to read, I have decided that sometime in the future, I would like to schedule 20 to 30 minutes of Thomas Scott's time on "Zoom" and just chat about what goes into the development of a great mysterious read such as this!

And for those of you who "skipped" all of the above to get my 'rating' , GREAT READ/GO BUY & READ THIS BOOK!!

i got the first four books in the series for free and the story line was very entertaining. i thoroughly enjoyed the story line and the characters. BUT the lack of a competent proofreader and copy editor projibits me from paying money to buy any more of the books. if you can't keep your details straight from one page to the next or one chapter to the next or even from one book in the series to the next, then you need a copy editor. if you can't tell where to, and where not to, put commas, then you need a proofreader. if the books were free, i'd read them all but i'm not paying money for an author who doesn't have enough confidence in his work to hire professionals. i see there are 24 books in the series now. maybe he's gotten better or maybe he has hired professionals, but it would have to be proven to me in order for me to read any more.

You will not be able to put this story down. Yup that good.

Thomas Scott has written a page turner plus, in State Of Deception. Like all series it's best to start with book one, also highly recommended. I do enjoy police procedurals. However, Scott has managed to write without the use of trashy language, and over descriptive sex and gore. I personally prefer this, and find it much more compelling. This is really a terrific book.

Great mystery novels

I choose this rating because the Virgil Jones series is well written, interesting, and exciting, keeps you interested and involved in the story. Also incorporates events and locations accurate to Indiana. I would recommend this series to all Indiana residents who love to read and enjoy mysteries.

Better and Better

The saga continues of Virgil Jones and his brother Murton Wheeler and Sandy the wife of Virgil. Action galore and danger lurks everywhere and seems no peace for Virgil an officer of the Crime Unit and his family and friends. Great crime series and fabulous read for the beach or rainy day.

Review of State of Deception

Great storyline, it had elements of Childhood trauma, Petty fighting among law enforcement and Greed. Virgil and his wife inherited farmland that made them rich and poor at the same time. Murton has a chance to settle the score with his father. Great storyline and great ending

Twist s and turns keep you reading

So glad Mutton and Patty were saved, justice served on the arrogant, obnoxious Wheeler, took nearly to the end for the threads to weave the plot together, best yet

This man is an incredible writer

I swear he could make the phone book a best seller! He makes twists and turns you would never expect but somehow it all makes sense. I will never not read anything he writes and will tell my friends to check him out.

Fourth in a long series. The first 4 are absolutely terrific. Action mixed with thought. Great dialogue and. characters. Writing style makes the story move fast. Plenty of cop humor.
