With this influx of the poor and desperate comes the filth of despair: blood, sweat, factory exhaust, corruption. The Duke's open immigration policy means the city is overcrowded, jam packed with hungry people who have little hope of finding work. New Promise is a dirty place. Fortunately, Grevien's business is dirt. He unearths secrets and sells them to the highest bidder. Blackmail, slavery, and espionage, it's all a day's work to him. Now something big is going down in New Promise, big enough so a resourceful dirt dealer might be able to scrape a piece of the mud pie into his pocket or maybe get dumped out with the trash.
