Dannah Gresh, a mother/daughter communication coach, has sold well over three quarters of a million copies of her books—including And the Bride Wore White and 2008's best-selling CBA youth book, Lies Young Women Believe (coauthored with Nancy Leigh DeMoss)—making her one of the most successful Christian authors targeting teens and preteens. With the belief that today's culture has been seeking to rob little girls of their innocence, Dannah has been fighting on the front lines to protect them. Her fun line of Secret Keeper Girl mom/preteen daughter connecting resources and live events that tour the country provide moms with just the right tools to fight back. She has long been at the forefront of the movement to encourage both tweens and teens to pursue purity and is often called upon to defend the conservative position of abstinence in national news media like USA Today, Time, Chicago Tribune, and Women's Wear Daily. She is also a frequent contributor to FamilyLife Today, Midday Connection, and Focus on the Family. Dannah lives in State College, Pennsylvania, with her husband, Bob, and their children, Robby, Lexi, and Autumn, whom the family adopted from China in 2007. She and her husband founded Grace Prep, a new model in Christian high school education, which Bob administrates. She is shamelessly in love with her labradoodle, Stormie. (DannahGresh.com)

I definitely came across this book at a fortuitous time (okay, I totally take it as "divine design" as Elder Ronald A. Rasband likes to bring up that phrase)--not that it taught me a ton, thankfully, or that my life was all at sixes and sevens or anything, but just that it went along very well with my own thought processes and the pattern of my decisions recently, and the cool thing about this book is that I'm pretty sure I've never actually seen a book before that actually does describe the particular things Dannah brings up here; I've just always had them in my own head and observation. But if you had asked me, out of hundreds of books I've read and many people who talk about many aspects of many things, which resource I know of that talks about these things that I have floating around in my life and my brain, until now I would have said I really don't know if there is one; it seems that these particular things aren't really talked about or this pattern isn't recognized "out there" in the wide world. So now I do know of one book that talks about it. This is valuable for me to know because in my own lifelong experience, if I were trying to get some concepts across to people that are really helpful and true, there isn't much chance that people really listen to me--my voice seems to be eminently discountable. But for whatever reason, when my voice can just be pointing someone toward a difference voice and source that I can judge as being trustworthy, and I give people that, they are much happier to take what I give them and run with it. (And I guess I get the added benefit of not having to be the main "bad guy" in their minds if they don't like what I pointed them to.) So I will keep this book in mind and if it ever comes up for me or anyone else to read in the future, here it will be.

The five stars is because honestly, many books with a religious bent and that quote scripture have one or more elements that make them not quite recommendable to me, but in reading this one, I can't remember having found anything that would take off a star.

This book helped me get back on track to where God wants me to be. I did honestly answer the questions and journal her suggestions.

Highly recommend this book. It is an easy read, full of short interesting biographies that related to the topic being discussed.

since i recently finished the book that this journal is based on, i purchased this companion text and started the first study yesterday. thus far, i'm not finding it as helpful as the book itself was, but time will tell...

7.10.11: obviously not the right time for me to go through this. perhaps sometime in the future.

Insightful. Thought-provoking. Good material. I would have rated it a "4", but the last three or four chapters were not as well-written as the first several. Nevertheless, it's a worthwhile book and definitely not a waste of time.

Finally got a chance to read this one. It was pretty good. My only complaint is that it wasn't super relevant to my life right now, but there was still plenty to think about with it. Plus I just like Dannah as an author. She's a little strict, but she does have a good grasp on things.
