“I AM SPEECHLESS!” - Goodreads Reviewer

You never truly know a man until he asks you to ghostwrite his life story…

Finley Matthews is done writing for other people as a ghostwriter. She's tired of seeing her work with someone else's name slapped on the cover. She wants to make a name for herself, even if it means starting from scratch and saying goodbye to a steady paycheck.

So when Emerson Whittaker, the famed, mysterious novelist convinces her to take on one final ghostwriting project in return for good money, she doesn’t even think twice. This could be her gateway into the daunting literary world.

Finley finds herself captivated by the enigmatic Emerson. And there's something about Finley that Emerson can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves digging deeper into each other’s lives, and Finley soon uncovers things — shocking, hidden things that she can’t just brush aside.

The only problem is, Finley is falling in love with Emerson. And she’s not sure she can overlook the provocative secret he’s been hiding for eight years.

The Love at Work Series consists of interconnected standalones, all having to do with falling in love at work. They can be read in any order!

I have NOOOOO idea how this book is rated so high. The hero is disgusting in so many ways. This is why i always check for spoilers so a book like this doesn't ruin my week. Now I'm off to find something else that doesn't make my skin crawl.

Finley Matthews desperately wants to be an author, but has spent the last several years ghostwriting for bestselling authors, never getting the recognition she deserves. When she’s approached by famous author, Emerson Whittaker and offers her a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Finley can’t say no, even though she’s vowed to be done with ghostwriting. The catch? She has to move in with Emerson for 6-months while they work together.

Emerson is immediately enamored with his younger ghostwriter and knows from the get-go that there’s something special about her. But he’s harboring a secret that he knows is bound to tear him & Finley apart.

Between the Pages by Amanda Richardson is book 1 in the Love at Work series. It’s a series of true standalones; they all are romances about people who work together. I really enjoyed Emerson & Finley’s romance. I didn’t see the big twist coming at all so I truly was shocked. Their chemistry was great and their romance was a little slow burn. Definitely recommend if you also enjoy bookish main characters, as both our love interests in this are authors. 4/5 stars.

This was a BR read with Zo. So those in the know already understand this read is NOT safety-gang-safe.

NO graphic OW scenes, only allusions to the sporadic sexual relationship between the H and his fuckbuddy. She was there way before the h and I'm not sure the h was even on the H's sexual radar when he hired her. So...that kinda makes the h the real OW in the novel. But the OW fuckbuddy doesn't have much interaction with the H that you have to experience as a reader. And the H doesn't have any feelings for the OW.

This was actually a great read. The writing is excellent. In the top 10% of the mountain of trash I devoured this summer. The plot is superb...it's subtle enough you can miss signposts until they retrospectively flash in your mind. It was 50% before I had an inkling. I read a lot of mysteries (shocker, I know) so I was impressed with the overall plot and flow. It's stellar for this genre.

I liked the h. A rare occurrence. She was believable, not TSTL or so immature I wanted to poke her eyeballs out. Dare I say, her actions/thoughts were age appropriate!?!? I know that's a foreign concept in this genre. We also share a career so that's awesome...lol.

The H is not my favorite, but he's such a great tortured character. I liked him, don't get me wrong, I just needed more POV from him to love him...he had about 1/4 of the novel's voice. I understood him...his thoughts/actions...that's another rarity in this genre. And his reasoning for the push/pull with the h is sound.

Basics:
H: 35, famous author with a slightly suspicious past who's had a ghostwriter on each book after he wrote his first breakout novel. Had a fucked up childhood then ended up in foster care. Had an almost "Forest Gump" like experience for 4 years between high school and college while he traveled Europe and then South America.

h: 25, ghostwriter from wealthy fucked-up family, after sister's suicide she completely cuts ties with parents. She lives hand-to-mouth with her lifelong bestie in the village after graduating NYU.

I'm being purposely vague on the rest of the deets ;) I think the plot is best discovered without any more spoilers than I've given. But if you're looking for a spoiler whore, PM me, I'm always your girl ;)

Loved it! After The Realm of You: A Novel and And Then You (both 5* reads), I was anxiously counting down the days until Between The Pages would be released. But luck was on my side when I won an ARC! Needless to say I dived right in. And. I. Could. Not. Stop.!

The author's writing is eloquent and confirms once again why I fell in love with her writing in her previous novels. All of the author's characters are well developed and easy to love. Her stories are unique and captivating from the very first page.

Finley & Emerson are both writers, though each of their lives completely different from the other. Finley, the unknown ghostwriter, and Emerson, the popular author of several novels.
When Finley accepts Emerson's request to ghostwrite his book, and has to start working together with an attractive and captivating Emerson, she's slowly discovering there's more going on than what's on the pages. Emerson has a secret, but with the help of her friend, Hannah, Finley's adamant to find out what exactly Emerson is keeping from her.

“It’s a book that brought us together, and it’s a book that will tear us apart.”

While they both continue their part of the job, you can see them slowly becoming closer. Buttons are pushed and bounderies are crossed, and the tension between them becomes unbearable!

From the start, we were like two sticks of dynamite, strings tied together.
When we met, we sparked.
When we kissed . . . we exploded.

When Emerson's secret is discovered, Finley's left devastated. Will Finley be strong enough to ignore her feelings? Is she strong enough to ignore their attraction? Or is the friendship they've built not strong enough for Finley to overcome, and understand, the secret Emerson's been hiding all this time...? You'll have to read it to find out!

Finley Matthews . . . what have you done to me? More importantly, what are you doing to me? What will we do to each other?

Told in alternating point-of-views, Between The Pages is a highly passionate and captivating story of friendship, trust, love, and ultimately betrayal, you don't want to miss! Highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great set of characters, a unique plotline, and flawless writing. You'll want to turn the pages faster than you're able to read.

I have grown to love everything Author Amanda Richardson releases. With each release, her stories are more in depth, with more feeling to each of them. And with Between the Pages, that depth grew tenfold. This is the type of book I have grown to enjoy, more and more. The stories, within a story. This book in particular shows the great range, that Ms. Richardson has. She has become my one-click go-to Author!

As I mentioned before, this book is a story within a story. But this isn't something that will bore you, if anything it will surprise you in many ways. The beginning chapters are filled with Finley trying to reach so high for the stars, and somehow just grazing them. And as her story progresses, her reach becomes easier. See she is a ghostwriter, working with the "Big Time Authors" on their stories, while she is trying to make it mainstream with her own stories. And in one opportune moment, her life changes in a blink of an eye; Author Emerson Whittaker, somehow falls into her lap and gives her what she has been looking for. He is a "Big Time Author," whom Finley adores. He has everything that Finley doesn't; Structure, money, more money, and all the time necessary to write a book. After a little bargaining between these two, Finley (heroin) and Emerson (hero), they are able to reach and maintain an agreement. The agreement goes as follows, help him write the story that he is working on, and then he will help her. But when an agreement too good to be true falls into your lap, what would you think? Are there risks? Will Finley really get the help she needs to go mainstream?

Let's talk sexual tension and angst. This book is loaded with it, which gave me more reason to love it. These two characters are charting new territories. Which makes you really feel the depth of what they're both wading in. They have learned to feel one another out, but at what cost? We see Finley and Emerson really make light of a few situations, even though their sexual energy flows through the pages. It amazed me how reserved these two were, in terms of their neediness and sexual desires. Many times I wanted to just scream at them to see what they were both missing. But I get it. The work was the most important. And that is what brought these two together. The work, something that can change the course for both of them....one little twist and anything could happen.

As the story goes on, things become more intense. The desire is ever increasing, but also things start to come to light. Secrets. Secrets that can cause pain to both Emerson and Finley. These secrets run so deep, that I wasn't too sure how everything would pan out. It was heart wrenching to see the pain that was lying in wait. I know that Finley and Emerson are both human, and mistakes happen, but when do you say enough is enough and try to fix the secrets? It hurt watching how these two handled these issues, but it also felt right. This is where the feelies come in. You're breaking and want to cuddle both Finley and Emerson, and reassure each of them that life does go on, even when a secret like this will crush you. DO you think they have what it takes to right the wrongs?

Now this book wasn't all intensity, secrets, sexual tension, and angst, it was actually very cute and sweet. Humor was laced through the pages, but there was an undercurrent that I felt the whole time. And another I don't think I mentioned, was the chemistry these two had. They clicked instantly. It was almost like a match made in heaven....

Between the Pages sucked me in. It had me wondering how all of these lines crossed, and then how they could possibly be connected. So many scenarios ran through my head, but by the time I had reached the end of the story, everything made complete sense. This book is packed with some sexually charged scenes, lots of sexual tension, some feelies, and a little angst. But mostly it is a sweet story that leaves you wanting more with every character. I loved Finley and I loved Emerson, too. Their story was endearing and very well written. This is a story that will take you by storm, don't pass it up.

I read this in one sitting. This book is filled with great imagery - the beaches of Montauk (which I always wanted to visit) and the fast pace of NYC is superbly mixed together! It's told in dual point of view which I love, the chemistry between our H and H is awesome and more importantly, this is a story with elements I haven't read before. The notion of ghost writing, or at least the way it is depicted in this book is a fresh idea and written smartly. Great Job!

I struggled to get into this one. It took until halfway through the book until I really started to enjoy it. I also didn’t love our MMC, Emerson. He still wasn’t that great by the end. The storyline was really good, I just didn’t connect to the characters very much.

Between the Pages is a unique story of a writer who can’t write without love.

Emerson Whitaker had immense success with his first book, but after a tragic event in his life, he couldn't write anymore. He has the ideas but the words won’t flow. So, he hires ghostwriters to help him complete what filled the pages between the covers.

Finley Matthews is the most recent writer he hired to assist in the process. Young and beautiful, she has the power to change the course of his life...

I loved this book from the start. Finely is creative and fun, but takes no prisoners. She's a bit sassy and inquisitive. I often wondered if she could be a journalist hunting down a story. Writing is her life. She dreams of publishing her own story but staying afloat in New York City isn't so easy. So, she takes one last job working for Emerson.

It was interesting to see the paradox of how our lives are a journey. Wheels are put in motion in times and places we are never part of. They have the potential to change the course of our lives forever. As with both Emerson and Finley's, a tragedy set each of them on a different path. Her, on a path of living her life honestly and for herself. She's real and genuine, and I love it! Him—on a path of hiding in plain sight.

This is a complex story of life and love. How our past affects our future. How living an honest life for ourselves, and for love, is what life is really about! ~ Heather, 4.5 stars

This is a giant leap from the usual novels that I've been reading - starting off in the same vein as the norm, then taking a "Chick Lit" kind of branch, with a cerebral vibe, then to a mature Alpha Male Romance, it hits one of my hard limits almost losing me, and finally the Happily Ever After. The sex, although there is a very steamy scene, isn't the focus in "Between the Pages" - it's the build up of a Friends/Mentor to Lovers, Super Emotional & Sexual Tension Love Story. Amanda Richardson truly focuses on how a Life lived on the outskirts of someone else's, can become not just the subject of a Love Note but a literal Love Story.
"Between the Pages" is Deep, at times almost Hypnotic, and Romantic, but it's also Fun, Sweet, and Cute at others. Amanda Richardson's book is different than the usual fare I typically read and it definitely was a welcome and refreshing change of pace. Other than the presence of one of my major literary "Hard Limits" - which was necessary and important to the conflict and also the resolution of the novel - I loved this story ... so hard!

I AM SPEECHLESS

I love this book so much!

Emerson and Finley are incredibly built characters. The relationship between them develops in a fast pace, but with every turn of the page yo will know how right they are for each other.

This story is filled with mistery, you will have questions and more questions through the story and little by little you'll get to know the truth. I have to tell you this, when I unfolded the last question and found the answer, I was SPEECHLESS. I keep asking myself how couldn't I imagined it earlier, or why it never crossed my mind. The plot twist is huge! But it's amazing! The author work with the questions in the story and the time given for you as a reader to find out the truth in the best way possible! I never saw any of this coming. I loved every bit of it!

This story will grab you and won't let you go until you are done. Until you know the truth. It's a story that won't let you go even if you already finished the book. It has an important value, a message of hope and second chances. It teaches about love, friendship, forgiveness and living without regrets.

Besides, it's a book with hilarious moments, strong characters, and lots of love.

So go, and immerse yourself Between The Pages <3

Amanda has woven a story about wanting what we shouldn't and the irresistible pull we have to one another. I'd been in a reading rut for a while, and it was Emerson and Finley's journey that got me out of it. This novel is sexy, beautiful, and incredibly poignant, all while focusing on written word and how those words affect our lives and hearts. Be sure to check this one out. You won't regret it!

Emerson is a bestselling author who just can't seem to write his own material after his debut book, and Finley is a ghostwriter who has always dreamed of doing her own stuff. And Emerson just so happens to be Finley's favorite writer. When Emerson hires Finley to help him write a novel based on his own life, he knows it will change the way she feels about him. He has secrets that connect to Finley's life, so when he starts falling for her, he fights it all except he doesn't expect Finley to fall for him too. But just when Emerson and Finley find their happiness in each other, life always has a way of fighting back, and all the secrets Emerson feared come out unexpectedly in full force.

I found Emerson, the hero of this book, very creepy. Their relationship was fine aside from all of the secrets he has related to Finley and her dead sister; that stuff was really weird. The points of view of Emerson and Finley also came out really similar, and while they bonded over crappy childhoods and similar tastes in things, they were too similar and that made it hard to tell them apart. Well, hard to tell apart aside from the moments when Emerson talked about his youth, which was even crazier than it was believable. I rolled my eyes every time I read about some other crazy, unrealistic thing that happened to Emerson when he was younger. I'm also a little mad that Finley forgave Emerson so easily for everything that went down; all of that would make it a lot harder to be around him even if he does confess his love to her by writing another book by himself. Side characters - I was glad the main characters had close friends who served as their confidants and pushers, and it gave the MCs more characterization, but other than that, the side characters were bland or hardly present in the story. Which reminds me, Emerson cheating on Sylvanna was horrible. I really didn't like the romanticization of that whole thing.

Overall, you have a boss-employee romance of a guy who falls for his dead ex's little sister. It was weird, but the writing itself was mostly okay. I think the characters just put me off of this book.

Finley Matthews' dream is to become an award winning author; and like every aspiring author, she has bills to pay and a dead end retail job to make it happen. Her sidekick and roommate Hannah is a gold hearted legend who's always got her back and vice versa. It's been them against the world since they were young.

When life starts to seem like it's hitting rock bottom; with no money for a girl's night out and no inspiration to start her own novel; Emerson swoops in with a once in lifetime opportunity. Not only has Finely always admired his work, but the offer comes with a hell of a payday plus benefits. Surely it's all too good to be true?

Emerson needs Finley to be his Ghostwriter and he'll make it happen however he can. She's smart, gorgeous and talented; and just the thing he needs to help his next book become a bestseller. If only he could focus more on the book than on Finley herself.

What could possibly go wrong when two passionate creative's are contained within close proximity to each other everyday, working and writing by the beach, learning each other's souls.
Truths are revealed, trust is broken and all is not what it seems.

Slow burn, lots of longing and temptation before finally giving in.
Should've seen that twist coming, not until right before the reveal I put the clues together.
Never knew about ghostwriting, I'm curious how many authors do this.

Epilogue was sweet with him adding the extra chapter for her with his dream ending.

Fin is a ghost writer tired of writing for somebody else and wants to try her hand as a novelist. Of course, this is not as easy as she thought it be even though she was trained to write and her writing has reached the bestseller lists. Perhaps she just wasn’t meant to write her own stories.

Then she meets a handsome stranger, who happened to be one of her favorite authors. He wants to hire her to help write his next book at his house in Hampton. Finley, curious about the mystery of this fascinating and talented author, wants to learn more. How will she reach when his dark secrets are revealed?

This premise certainly piques the reader’s interest. It’s mostly on the big mystery surrounding Emerson’s life. The characters share a deep connection, apparently. It’s kind of long at times. The reader is constantly teased by the lust of these characters. Either get it on or go home!

The part about Finley hoping he wasn’t one of those authors that reads every bad review couldn’t be more on the nose for me. Authors that scrutinize every word and every syllable in all reviews will just drive themselves nuts.

As far as this book is concerned, this was a decent read.

Wonderful Book

Finley dreams of being a writer. Of people falling in love with her words. But she’s not been able to write anything of her own. So she is a ghostwriter for other famous authors. Many of which end up on the best seller lists. But she decides to truly focus on her own work. Which means no money coming in. When author Emerson Whitaker offers her more money than she’s ever made to write his book, she jumps at the chance, even if it means living for six months in his house in the Hamptons. But as they begin working, an attraction begins to form. But secrets from Emerson’s past may tear them apart.

I absolutely adored this story. The characters are all wonderfully written. And it is such a beautifully heartbreaking and heartwarming story. It instantly drew me in, and I could not put it down. You feel their pain, and sadness, but you can see their love growing in the page. I definitely recommend this book.

Unexpected

I found this book sitting pretty far down in my unread list on my Kindle and after reading the synopsis, decided why not. So glad I did. I love books about books and am fascinated by ghostwriters but this book was so much more. A little dark and mysterious but once I was able to put two and two together, relatively quickly I might add, I just set back and enjoyed the story. I liked the characters, Emerson came off as sexy and yes a little creepy at first. Finley made things very interesting and I was ok with her reactions to Emerson. Things do become uncomfortable but I enjoyed the story and how it was written. This book was published in 2016 and until I realized that I was thrown a little by the timeline. I did have some unresolved issues, namely with Finley's parents and would have liked more on supporting characters Hannah and Isaac. All in all I am glad I found this one.

Honestly can't believe how good this was.

For me, it's so, so important to have main characters with believable flaws. It makes them more relatable and easier to sympathise with, and I was hooked from the first page.

I find it really clever that Amanda Richardson set this book in the world of ghostwriting, which is something of a dirty little secret in the writing community, and made it sympathetic.

I loved Emerson. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough, desperate to find out what was really going on with him. And it did not disappoint.

Emerson makes mistakes. He makes poor judgement calls. But his journey back to the light, and how much he loved Finley, was mesmerising.

One of the best books I've read for a while, and I can't wait to read more from this author. Five stars, zero hesitation.

WOW!

Finley is a very popular and successful ghostwriter living with her platonic soulmate, childhood BFF and unemployed actress. Finley has decided to stop being a ghostwriter and write her own books but that means their income is very limited. She decides to go to her favorite coffee shop and do some serious work on he book. As she sits there a man comes over and sits down across from her. He looks familiar and suddenly she realizes who he is…her favorite author.

Anderson is struggling. He needs help with his book and he knows she. Is the only one who can work the magic that will get him through. He buys her breakfast and offers her a sizable fee to ghostwrite his book. Then sits back holding his breath waiting for her answer.

This is definitely a book not to miss. Emotional on both sides, up and down. Take a deep breath and dive in!

I thoroughly enjoyed this emotional and touching story.
When Finley was hired to be Emerson's ghost writer, she had a hard time convincing her heart that this was to remain strictly professional. The more time they spent together, the harder it became for both of them to deny their feelings, although it took them a while to work things out. I felt a real emotional connection to both characters and could also feel the tension and chemistry that was between them.
This book drew me in from the very beginning and I was eager to see how it would all unfold. There was just the right amount of drama, humour, romance and mystery. I look forward to hopefully reading more books in this series.

Finley and Emerson

Emerson Whittaker the writer, one of Finley's favorites, wants her to be his ghostwriter! He has a contract and everything! Plus it's one of the most generous ones she has yet to see! Her and her best friend Hannah will be set for at least 6 months! The only catch is she will be living at his home in the Hamptons on the beach! She vowed, to her sister Chloe never to go in the water again when she is sure a shark brushed her leg, when she was almost 14 years old and has kept her promise!! Only Emerson is keeping secrets! What happens when she finds out what they are? How will their arrangement come to an end? You will not want to miss a single word of this remarkable story by Amanda Richardson.

Enjoyable read...3.5 stars

I enjoyed this book. I didn't really like Emerson at the start though and found their pov's were written very similarly which made it difficult to work out what was happening. I liked the idea of the story but felt it had a dark element to it that made it more creepy than romantic. It also felt a little rushed with a touch of insta love and it took me a while to warm up to them as a couple. This made sense when the twist came out...overall though I did enjoy the story and I would read something by this author in the future.

It was okay

This book was okay.

Normally I really love books like this: slowburn, OM/YW, friends to lovers type of stories; however this one just really didn't do it for me.

In the table of contents the author has the chapters numbered 1 through 43 then Epilogue, Epilogue and then Chapter 44 and Chapter 45, which led me to think there were an additional two more chapters of the story. Nope they were part of the next book.

The MC's were pretty okay and the side characters could have been better written.

Also I felt the first part of the epilogue had nothing to do with the storyline and it also ended very abruptly as well.
