Upside Down Face
Who is Upside Down Face? No one knows, not even Google. Yet, a game exists in its name, where if you write the name of your enemy on a piece of paper, follow the simple set of rules, they die shortly thereafter!
Sixteen-year-old Jordan suffers from severe bullying at school. And on Halloween, to get her mind off her troubles, she plays a Halloween game with her two best friends who are fraternal twins, and a boy she hasn't spoken to in years. The rules are quite complete all the tasks in time. If you don't, there will be deadly consequences to pay.
Although they've succeeded in accomplishing all the rules set by the game, they become aware that a sinister presence is lurking around. So when a girl goes missing, they have to ask themselves, is the game responsible somehow or is there an actual person behind the girl's disappearance? And also, can monsters be real, or are they only a figment of the imagination brought on by trauma?
These are all questions Jordan has to grapple with after playing this seemingly innocent Halloween game, one she regrets having played in the first place, even more so when she realizes that she might've unknowingly started an urban legend of her own, an urban legend by the name of Upside Down Face.

YA thriller! This is one talented author and this story is 🔥. Story hooks you immediately and draws you into the characters.
Short chapters set the pace. Story is engaging and thrilling. If you like YA thrillers you are going to want to read this.

This YA horror story was really creative. I enjoyed the tale. I have to say, if teens go through some of these things at school, I'm very glad I'm well out of school now.
I thought it had a good flow, the only criticism is that I think some of the wording didn't strike me as the way teens would talk, at least the ones that I know. A little too proper and grown up, but I was definitely hooked and wanted to know how this was going to end.

I really enjoyed reading the YA Thriller, and I’m so happy that I was offered the chance to reading this as an ARC. It definitely was better than I expected, and captured my attention. It was a really quick read, and I definitely recommend checking it out. Here are my thoughts about the book.
Things I felt could use some work:
✍🏽 Sometimes the dialogue between characters seemed unnatural.
✍🏽 I wish there was more descriptions of Upside Down Face. I had a hard time picturing it in my head.
✍🏽 I felt that the characters need more of an introduction. The book started with 3 characters hanging out, and I kept mixing them up at the beginning. I think if there was more information giving for each character it would have been easier at the beginning.

📖 I loved the relationship between Jordan and Jackson. They were so cute together!
📖 I feel like Jordan reacted the way I expected someone to reach when seeing the something as scary and unfamiliar as Upside Down Face.
📖 The plot was so good. I love that it was more than just a Thriller, there was also some Mystery involved.
📖 The twist, and the TWIST and that’s all I can say about that. The end was so good, and what a way to end it.

The requirements are simple: finish all of your tasks by the deadline or face punishment. Even though they were able to complete every task, they realized something ominous was nearby.
📌The book ending definitely made me cry a bit. Although I'm not really a fan of a hint of romance to a horror/thriller/mystery book. I did not expect myself to be attached from one of the characters.
📌It wasn't too scary for my liking but the author was able to build some scenes that are suspense and the mystery about Upside Down Face is just enough for me.
📌Three stars because it didn't give me enough scares, but the fourth star is for the mystery. I must say it's a good book and I'm sure the younger generation will like this book especially if they're a fan of horror/thriller/mystery books.

This book is by a new author and it’s written based off of a nightmare she experienced. All in all it was pretty suspenseful and I was totally surprised by the ending of the book. The only thing I was confused about was the actual character which the name of the book is based on (Upside Down Face). I didn’t get closure at the end of the book.
Jordan was being bullied by everyone (initiated by Ashleigh) in her school because of a rumor that was spread about her. The horror began on Halloween night when everyone was invited to a Halloween party expect for Jordan and her two friends. Jordan and her friends had their own party and decided to play a game that would put a hex on Ashleigh. Jordan didn’t realize that this hex would come true. Now Ashleigh is missing and Jordan because being visited by the Upside Down Face being who is wanting to destroy her.

I received an ARC of this book.
The writing is kind of childish which is suitable if the book is meant for middle grade readers. But as a book for adults (basing this on the fact that the author used swear words) I'll say it was quite childish. But I do have to say this that the way the characters are represented they are very much age appropriate- like yes teens are disrespectful sometimes and do not care about others' feelings and get irritated by small things done by their parents. This is the only book I guess where I've seen teens being teens.
Anyway the thrill is really good. I like that it has short chapters to keep your attention. At some points there are unnecessary details given.
The end though. Now that was something. It was totally something that was unexpected.
So overall the plot line was pretty good and even with a bit of sloppy writing the book definitely deserves appreciation. It's a short, thrill filled, engaging story. Worth reading.

I was given an advanced readers copy of this book. This YA story has everything! It is a mystery, with some horror, thrills and a bit of romance. I think teens will identify with Jordan. Although a victim of bullying at her school, she is a strong young woman with an attitude. When she decides to play a Halloween game with her two best friends and an old childhood friend, strange things start to happen.
I especially enjoyed the mystery that Jordan is hoping to solve and the romantic relationship that develops in the book.
The story around the character Upside Down Face has an imaginative ending and there is a thrilling climax I didn’t see coming! If you like this type of story, this is a good one.

I received an advanced copy of this book. Although this is very outside the zone of books I read for a YA mystery/thriller I enjoyed it. It was a very quick read that captured my attention and gave me a sad twist at the end.
I think the writing needs a little bit more work on such as more information on the characters and background info towards the beginning. I also had a hard time imagining what upside down face looked like (however it’s probably for the best cause I’m a chicken when it comes to creepy things 🫠)
Overall if you enjoy this genre I think you should give this book a read 🫶🏻

What a great debut for Janice!
I really enjoyed reading this book , as much that I read it all in a single day.
The story is nice and although sounds a bit predictable at the beginning it takes really unexpected twists and keeps you on the edge.
Dialogs and characters are obviously targeted for a young adult audience , but I still enjoyed my reading.
I’d like to thank the author personally as they reached out proposing a collaboration.

After playing a Halloween game, a sinister presence starts stalking a group of teenagers, and a girl goes missing. An interesting take on the sort of films like I know what you did last summer and urban legend, though I struggled to like any of the characters (just like those films!). It did have some intriguing twists though.

Not good
So much that didn't work with this book.... Very juvenile in prose such as basic sentence structure, etc. The cast is very flat & the plot was written like it was a last minute idea a teenager had one night. Do not recommend at all

This story had me hooked! The creep factor was there, mysterious things happening that keep you going until the end. With the twists and turns, and the main characters struggles making you root for her! Truly enjoyed this book! Definitely recommend!

This book is in serious need of editing. I also wasn’t aware that it’s a children’s book. The author had advertised her book in a horror book group last year and I was very intrigued. I bought the book right away but hadn’t read it til now. Extremely disappointed.
