Recommended for readers seeking dirty sweet romances that curves, a cowboy, a ranch setting with western living, happily ever after, weddings, and family life readers can return to over and over as each sibling, cousin and friend brings their search for true love to a satisfying end.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Christa Wick has been hybrid publishing since 2012 (yep, she's one of the O.G. indie authors). She's written 50+ romances starring curvalicious heroines and alphalicious heroes whose stories span the spectrum of: steamy & sweet, steamy & emotional, steamy & suspenseful, steamy & paranormal, steamy & dark, and...well, you get the idea. Her darker, dirtier books are under C.M. Wick, and she also writes general fiction sci-fi thrillers and suspense novels under other pen names.
I enjoyed the story very much! With a first meeting like that, you can feel that sparks fly between Sage and Adler, but Sage and jake have secrets and those secrets stand between the two families. I love Adler even when he is being obtuse, not on purpose mind you, but still he needs to work on communication lol Sage is skittish and tries to stay out of the way, but she is fiercely loyal and so sweet with her niece. I love the push and pull and how the relationship developed..I felt the end was a bit rushed but I enjoyed the story and this family
2.5 stars. I think the story needed a little more interaction between Adler and Sage. I needed a little more background or something. I feel there was a missing piece. Also, I think a few more "steamy" scenes.
Adler James is book 1 of the Real Cowboys Love Curves series by Christa Wick and can be read as a standalone.
“Baby, who are you?” he asked, abandoning her lips to kiss just below her ear. “Who are you that I want you this bad? Tell me, Sage.” - Adler to Sage
I downloaded this book for free on Kindle and it's the first book I've read by Christa Wick. This book pulled me in right from the start and I was unable to put it down - I read it all on the same day I downloaded it. This book starts 6 weeks after the Turk family are dealt a double tragedy and after Sage has spent a long time looking for her brother, Jake. I loved meeting the Turk family and seeing the chemistry between Adler and Sage who tried to fight what they felt for each other for different reasons.
Whilst the sexual tension is very obviously there between Adler and Sage, the author focuses more on the story and plot but there are still some ‘hot' moments. Christa Wick also gives us the Turk family history and I loved learning how the family came to be what and where they are today. There's so much included in this amazing book and the author’s style of writing allows you to visualise what the characters are thinking, feeling and seeing. I wouldn't hesitate to one-click any book written by Christa Wick and 100% recommend this book
I'm excited to see what Christa Wick has planned for Adler’s brothers as we get to see glimpses of them in this book but you're left wanting to know more. Next up is Walker Pierce (book 2) and then Barrett Cole (book 3). After that, books will hopefully be written for Sutton and Emerson along with maybe some of the other family members and friends!
I liked Sage and Alder, liked how sparks flew from the moment they met. And right up to chapter 27 I would have given it 3 stars. But after chapter 27 every jumped, and I mean jumped. Well more like leaped. It was like pressing fast forward on a song and still trying to sing along.
Another thing I need to point out is when Sage makes herself a tea....
She puts a teabag in a cup and adds water and microwaves it?????
IN THE MICROWAVE
Seriously??
Who does that?
Will I read others in this series or by this author?
In the middle of tragedy, a bright light arrives to weather the storm. Every Last Doubt is haunted by secrets that try their best to overpower an irresistible romance. Wick goes from unpredictable to deliciously wicked. Adler and Sage are caught in the middle of an inferno that continue to explode with every revelation. The heat is on and only the heartache can cool it down.
Interesting story, but I'm still not sold on the reasoning Sage and her brother didn't keep in touch, especially since it seemed to end up being a non-issue. I'm glad they finally cleared the air with the family about everything though, but still didn't make sense why she left. All in all, this was a decent story.
This book was a great read with plenty of chemistry between the characters. Characters are well developed and engaging through out the pages. The storyline was easy to follow.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It was ok, nothing overly special. I didn't feel a deep connection between the hero and the heroine and some of her thought processes were mind boggling. I didn't understand her and therefore didn't connect with the story.
Although this is a romance you also get a family drama, sibling issues of abandonment, and the epilogue will be a little erotic compared to the majority of the book. You will enjoy the read. Adler is a little intense for his own good. He is trying to fill beg shoes but not dealing with the double loss he and his family have just gone through.
However, because of this loss, Jake contacts his his sister, Sage after years of him, fall off the map. All he says is ‘She’s gone my wife is gone,’ and disconnects. Being the IT person she starts researching her brother’s name and then bingo she shows up at the airport and then at his house. Word spreads in the small town that Jake brought a woman to his home late at night.
This is how Adler becomes involved because he owns the home his sister and Jake lived in with their daughter Leah, two years old and beyond adorable, but Sage is the only one there when he let’s himself in. I know, SAY WHAT? But Sage had earbuds in and couldn’t hear him knocking and well... Adler the bull was seeing red, that Jake would dare to have a woman in his sister’s home.
This is where it gets really interesting so this is all I’m giving you but it’s a fun read. Just know it’s a push pull relationship, but for once it is not on the girl. I love the family and the characters are large and bold.
The characters in this story were intriguing and very likable. Sage Ballard and Adler Turk meet under extremely sad circumstances. He is instantly attracted but from the beginning he feels like there are secrets that this curvy, beautiful woman is keeping from him. He aims to find out what she’s hiding. Sage never thought she would wind up in Willow Gap, Montana in search of her estranged brother Jake. What she finds is much more than her long lost sibling.
I really liked this story. Sage and Adler have a lot of obstacles to overcome if they can ever make a go of their relationship and it all starts with revealing long kept secrets. There’s angst and also a lot of heartbreak. The whole Turk crew and their family history along with the family tree was so amazing. Their bond is strong which is why losing one of their own is so gut-wrenching. Little Leah just stole my heart and the epilogue was pure gold. I can’t wait to read the next Turk story.
It was fine. Pretty anticlimactic. Fairly bland overall. It was written in 3rd person which I find hard to connect with in romance. There was nothing remarkable to say about the story. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very memorable either. Nothing steamy, no action or really any intrigue. The "secret" Sage and Jake kept was blah at best and honestly not really necessary of a secret. Don't know why their parents indiscretions were their cross to bear or why they felt they needed to be ashamed. It just felt like it was added to make drama in the story but it was a fail at that. I like that Sage is curvy and there was some interesting parts to the story, but overall it was rather drab and unremarkable
A heartwarming romance! I very much enjoyed reading about the Turk family. They are a close-knit group who value honesty and forthright communication. Lies and secrets don’t go over big with them. Sage and her brother Jake, though, have much to hide - with good reason. This is fascinating reading. The attraction between Adler Turk and Sage develops slowly. Sage is a smart, strong woman who keeps herself out of the public eye as much as possible. The secrets are unraveled little by little. Don’t expect everything to go smoothly. It doesn’t. Excellent writing!
This was s great read. Why, you say? Well let me tell you that Adler is tall, red haired hunk of burning love. He meets Sage under less than stellar circumstances and he’s a goner. Sage is afraid and keeps him at arms length. But he is not going to take it. He takes her horseback riding and makes his move. That warming shed is perfect for what he has in mind. That’s all your getting from me. This is a must read and I for one am going to follow Ms Wick from now on.
I wouldn't describe Sage as sunshine. She's had a lot of darkness in her life and is hesitant to trust a good thing. Adler is his own worst enemy at times by pulling away and going quiet. They have to work for a relationship that isn't full of misunderstandings and secrets after Sage has to cover for her brother's lies. The cause of the lies seems a little dramatic since it can't be blamed on her brother or Sage. He should have come clean a while ago and not kept Sage out of his life. 4.5 stars
Misunderstandings, secrets and cowboys, and family
This book is full of misunderstandings, secrets, cowboys and family that although a bit complicated certainly make for an interesting story. The back and forth of the main characters got a little old for me and I thought that the ending was rushed and the relationship wasn't as fleshed out as I would have liked but that's just my opinion. All in all an okay read.
I love stories where it shows that men love children. I bought this book cause Adler is my last name but I ended up loving the story and the Turk family. In this book the family just lost its patriarch and only daughter in the same night. Finding their way back is difficult for everyone especially the toddler left behind. I love the nickname addy so I think it's cute when Adlers niece calls him her addy.
Sage arrives in town to help her brother but the Tuck boys have no idea she exists let alone in town. When Adler sees Sage at his brother in laws house shortly after his sister's passing he gets the wrong idea but once he finds out who she is he can't help himself. He is totally drawn to her and wants to be with her but she fights him every step of the way.. When Adler backs off will Sage finally admit she does love him?
This was a complicated book. Sage had a lot of baggage that she was keeping a secret. Adler also had baggage; he was self conscious about his war scars. His sister had been married to Sage's brother but had recently died, leaving a 2 yr old daughter.
Sage arrived to help him care for the girl, but fell in love with Adler.
The author did an excellent job of weaving this tale. I enjoyed the chase.
Alder was the head one on the ranch which was three generations owned by the Turk family. His sister was in a car accident. She left her husband and two-year old daughter, Leah. Everyone was still grieving when Sage, the sister to Jake, showed up. Adler knew Jake was hiding things, especially when he told everyone that he had no siblings. So with Sage there, things slowly came out. Adler was falling for Sage. It’s a good book, a must read.
this is NOT the book cover i did have? i wonder why the one i did have is not available here on Goodreads. i read a kindle version. i found this from Bookbub they were saying it was free. not sure if that still the case or not? but always check them for FREE books. or cheaper books that is. out on July 25, 2019. These two meet under very sad circumstances...seriously, it broke my heart. Always love Christa Wick books. These two really fought their attraction, I know there were reasons, but I wanted to see them just go for it. Outside of that and the little bit of drama, it was a sweet and safe read with a wedding...woo hoo. Can’t wait for the next book.
I love the story overall. This story of a plus sized woman at peace with her curves who is not constantly whining about hot fat she is and how she is constantly complaining how other people don't like it. I really can't stand that. I loved the connection between the two main people in this story how family was their main concern.
Interesting story, but I'm still not sold on the reasoning Sage and her brother didn't keep in touch, especially since it seemed to end up being a non-issue. I'm glad they finally cleared the air with the family about everything though, but still didn't make sense why she left. All in all, this was a decent story.
I loved the pace and the relationship that developed between Adler and Sage. She was no pushover and he wasn't hard and unfeeling. I just wanted more of a conclusion for them, the ending felt so abrupt to me. We could have them ride off into the sunset on their matching horses or a small bit of them celebrating on a beach in Maui! I definitely look forward to more of this family shenanigans.
