Although still not quite a dog lover, Maggie Patterson meets with her new group of dog-loving friends for “Yappy Hour” every Friday night in the sleepy seaside town of Pacific Cove, CA. Both she and her sister Rachel have put the murderous past summer behind them, with Rachel even securing a headline feature for the Wine & Bark in the famous Doggie Day magazine. But when her sister comes down with a case of salmonella poisoning, Maggie is left to run the business in her absence. Even worse, Maggie overhears an argument between her friend Yolanda and Bonnie, who runs the Chic Chickie shop. Then poor Bonnie turns up dead.
With evidence piling up against Yolanda, the Roundup Crew is desperate to find the real killer and convince Maggie to investigate. With the help of charming Officer Brad Brooks, Maggie finds that everyone has a motive, even some of her beloved Roundup Crew friends. Maggie must put her new job as a purser on hold while she tracks down a murderer. Will Maggie’s investigation kill her budding romance with Officer Brooks? Sometimes getting to the truth is not for the faint of bark…er…heart. Between running the bar, managing her love life, and solving a murder in time for the editorial spread, things are about to get a little hairy in this laugh-out-loud cozy mystery.

Cute idea for a story-- doggie bar and multiple murders solved by a woman who has problems holding a job and her man--- A bit confusing for me as the fly leaf of the book killed off a woman that was not mentioned in the actual text. Would have been a better story if the animals did more and the ditzy Maggie was given a bit more brains and actual personality. She seemed less like a heroine and more like a gal that needs to try and sort out her life than spending so much time focusing on everyone else.
Maggie is all set to begin her new job as a purser on board a Mexican Riviera cruise line. Fun in the sun here she comes! With Gus headed to New York to participate in a cooking reality TV show, the timing is perfect. Then her sister Rachel lands in the hospital with salmonella poisoning and asks Maggie to step in and run the Wine and Bark. A magazine editor is coming to review the Wine and Bark to see if the bar is worthy of doing a cover or spread and everything must be perfect. While testing new wine for the bar, Maggie accidentally ends up in the middle of an argument between her friend Yolanda and another woman, Fran, owner of the Chic Chickie boutique. When Yolanda and Maggie go to talk to Fran the next morning at her shop they discover her lifeless, bloody body in a storeroom. How can Maggie leave now when there's a murder to solve? Officer Ellison still doesn't like her and is a little too close to the case. He seems to think Maggie or Yolanda did it! Maggie puts her career on hold until she can solve the mystery. Was it Ronnie, the chicken farmer whose rooster likeness Fran stole for her shop logo? Heinrich, Fran's ex-boyfriend? Darla, his current girlfriend who did not seem all that fond of Fran? What about Cornelia, the disgruntled shop assistant or even Fran's best frenemy? Is Rachel's poisoning related to the murder? Maggie aims to find out.
I didn't like this mystery as much as the previous one. All the suspects were way too obvious. A new suspect is introduced late in the novel which seems random and confusing, especially given who the person is. There's a second murder that's pretty awful. The Round Up Crew is hardly around, especially the four-legged members. Beepo has the most scenes but he's not as prominent as he was before. He still needs training. Pee-Wee has one scene and the others just appear with their humans. Grunkly is only in a few scenes and they're unmemorable.
Maggie acts incredibly stupid for a smart woman. She gets involved where she shouldn't, fails to report a crime, withholds evidence, and accuses someone innocent of poisoning and murder. Snooping is the hallmark of the genre but Maggie goes beyond that. I liked Yolanda better in this novel because she actually eventually makes Maggie report the crime and turn in the evidence. I'm pretty sure Yolanda broke the law snooping and she doesn't get a free pass from me. Maggie needs money but she delays starting her new job and then I'm not sure but there may be some ethnic stereotyping going on here. I've never seen an Indian person walk around in a sari ("full Indian dress") as an ordinary workday outfit but it could be a reflection of Virshali's character.
Fran sounds like a nasty woman who pushed and shoved people out of her way to get what she wanted. She wasn't above lying, stealing or fighting to get her own way. It's a wonder no one snapped sooner and killed her. Of the suspects, the only one who is really likeable is Ronnie the chicken farmer. He's kind and considerate, at least towards Rachel but Maggie doesn't know him and Rachel is not known for having the best taste in men. Cornelia, Fran's assistant, has just cause to be angry with Fran. She's young and maybe a bit overly proud -who the heck brags about designing chicken handbags (besides Yolanda)? Weird. Henrick seems nice enough but a bit obsessive and rude about his wine. He's pushy. He seems to have a type because Darla isn't all that nice either. Geraldine, with the show Poodles was Fran's best friend. We know Yolanda and Geraldine don't get along and here we can see them interact more. Geraldine is snippy and perhaps hiding something she did.
As Gus is away he doesn't play a large role here but he's supportive of Maggie and seems to care about her. Brad cares about Maggie too and he has every right to be mad at her for not regarding the law and her safety. Virshali, the dog magazine editor, is a very fussy woman. She can't be pleased easily. What DOES she want and why doesn't she state it in the beginning? (How does the Wine and Bark even stay in business anyway?)
This book does not come with recipes so you'll have to find your own Yappy Hour to attend and skip this book.
Yep I did this to myself, I gave the series a chance and shocker (not really) 🤔🙄 Maggie was just as much if not more of an idiot in this book as in the first.
#1 she literally tells you she’s whining 🤨- she sees her sister suffering from food poisoning and .. never mind.. 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️ #2 SHE REMOVES EVIDENCE FROM A CRIME SCENE multiple times even after being told over and over to 🚫🚫, don’t do that, it can ruin the case 😩🤦🏾♀️🙄
#3 this book 100% plays into the stereotype of the dumb female who bumbles around getting into trouble at every corner, getting warm fuzzy feelings from her multiple love interest (gagging here), then getting teary eyed and weepy when she’s yelled at by the big sting male for bubbling and fumbling her way through an investigation she has ZERO clue how to be a part of, or what she’s doing, 🤨🙄🤦🏾♀️
This was a very quick easy read. The main character is Maggie Patterson who is helping her sister run a pet friendly bar. Maggie gets involved in a murder case when she discovers not one but two dead bodies and starts asking questions.
Again Maggie is all set to take off on a cruise as her new job of Purser on the cruise line is set to begin. However her sister Rachel is hospitalized with Salmonella, and Maggie is needed to fill in at the bar for importance bar publicity business with a magazine who may feature the Wine and Bark on the cover of their upcoming issue. Maggie steps in to wow the editor along with the help of the whole Roundup Crew. On the way to the hospital to see Rachel, Yolanda convinces Maggie to stop at a chicken shop she is trying to buy. They find the shop open but no one there. Yolanda convinces Maggie to check in the back room, and history repeats itself by having her find a dead body.
This is definitely a series you want to read in order so that you know who all the normal players are. If it is your first foray into the Wine & Bark, you will bound to be confused and not know who is who. So do yourself a favor and read Yappy Hour before starting Trigger Yappy
Maggie is the sister we all want-one who is always there to help out in a pinch, and willing to put her job on hold until things are all straightened out. The other characters are equally loyal to helping out Rachel and keeping the Wine & Bark open. The author has done a great job of mixing friendship, family, business and romance in the series. Enjoyable from start to finish, I recommend the series and am hoping for book #3 to be released soon.
This is a great book to read if you have a couple of free hours on the weekend or want something light. Maggie Patterson has moved to Pacific Cove, California where her sister lives. Her sister has a wine bar that caters to people with dogs. When the book opens, Maggie is set to go to sea with a cruise line and have new adventures. Unfortunately, her sister comes down with food poisoning and Maggie stays in town to run the bar. One of the patrons, Bonnie, is found dead and Maggie's friend Yolanda is a prime suspect. Maggie quickly learns there is no shortage of people who might have wanted Bonnie dead.
This is a cute easy read. I love the idea of having a bar that is dog friendly and the characters are amusing and fun to follow. Two people end up dead and others are being poisoned with salmonella. Is this all connected? Another person is opening up a cat place on the corner and this may be tough competition for their dog bar. This book is the second in a series, but I am not sure I know how far this series can go with finding dead people in a small coastal town.
This is a well written cozy mystery revolving around a triangle love affair in a Pacific Coast city. The crazy characters include a sister act along with an older grand uncle. The small town has it's usual people and police force that help solve mysteries. The setting is set for the next book in this series! copy right 2016
Another story you don't want to put down. Having a lot of stress or in a blah mood then pick up one of Diana Orgain`s books, You will forget your worries and your mood will lift. Her characters are so real . I have finished the last book and eagerly waiting for the next one. Enjoy!!
Couldn’t finish it. She has terrible friends, an irresponsible sister, and is all around an idiot. I tried to give the series a second chance but as a dog lover I can’t stand people who shove their dog love down other people’s throats or refuse to keep their dog contained.
I love these stories, but again the editing isn't quite up to snuff. With a magazine feature on the line and a cat store coming in, things are crazy enough without a murder!
I like how Diana writes. Her characters could be your next door neighbor. Her descriptions make you feel like you are right there. And she keeps you guessing as to who did it
This is delightful read and of course a murder to solve. Can't agree with some of the novice tricks and by all rights arrest able behaviors. But it is a fun story.
Really enjoyed these books. Clean, no swearing, and only light mention of violence. Interesting characters. Good narration. Hope book 3 will be out on audio!!
A couple of red herrings and everybody a suspect kept me guessing until the end. Delightful series that takes place in a small California coastal town that welcomes dogs and their owners to the bar.
First off: this was a very good story. However, the author lacked the passion to write. I didn’t feel the love that I normally feel when it’s a book written with passion regardless of genre.
What a pity that Maggie is so irritating, would have been a much better story if she hadn’t been so self important then going into panic attacks in the next breath.
I enjoyed this humours, furry mystery. This is the second book in this series and it was just as much fun as the last. Each book can be read or listened to as a standalone but the enjoyment does continues on from the last and with the same great cast of characters. The author obviously has great fun coming up with food and drink based animal names, which were amusing.and I love that most of the action takes place in a dog friendly bar. The characters are say we say interesting if not oddball, I personally don't see the attraction to chickens but as Yolanda obsession it is certainly a hoot. Along with the wacky relatives. There's the normal love triangle of who she will end up with but it was the mystery that I enjoyed. There was plenty of suspects and a nice mix of motives. I had guessed the killer but the author has me changing my mind by the end. Just a nice well rounded cozy mystery and a great way to enjoy a few hours. Just days before Maggie is to start her new job her sister gets sick and ends up in hospital, with no body to run the doggy bar Maggie steps up and puts her life in hold until the next cruise ship leaves port. Serving drinks to the thirsty customers and there dogs is the least of her worries when she gets news that the bar might be featured on the cover of a popular magazine if they can impress the editor. Then Maggie stumbles over a dead body in a chic chuckle shop and chicken fashion extraordinaire Yolanda becomes the number one suspect. Somebody also breaks into Maggie s house and the last thing she can do is sail of into the sunset doing her dream job. Can Maggie and the rest of the yappy crew impress the editor? And solve the murder? even if some of the clues starting to point to someone she calls a friend? I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice and uses it well to help you imagine the story unfolding.
(E) Janet gave this to me for Christmas in 2022. I'm not sure how I learned about these books, but I'm not going to read anymore of them. The story is just okay in this one, and I feel like it needs a thorough copyedit/proofread.

Maggie is back to save the day for her sister Rachel. I like this series better than the "Love or Money" mysteries by the same author. (Still some typos though which detract from the storyline.) If you like cozy mysteries and dogs this series is for you. I suggest reading the first book in the series first("Yappy Hour.")
