My personal policy on DNF'ing and rating something is that if I get to 50% and STILL want to to chuck it across the room?
I get to rate it.
And you bet your fucking ass that since I managed to trudge through 51% of this bad boy, I'm gonna call it the way I see it.
And I see it like this:
I italicized the "I" up there ^^^ because I know I am TOTALLY in the minority on this one, so take this review with the proverbial grain of sea salt.
I usually LOVE Alexa Riley - and I still do, homies - but holy fucking moly, this book.
I love quirky heroines. LOVE them.
But Zoey? Holy shit, this girl.

Seriously though. At first I was like, oh I dig this chick. She's filterless and crazy-quirky and I am totally on board.
But then?
I got to know her better, and decided,
I'm not sure if Riley was going for a genius angle? An Asperger's style Rainman chick? Or what?
But what we got was this:
And a horny fucking rainbow at that.
Within seconds of meeting Drake, Zoey - a virgin who has never before been a bit interested in the male persuasion prior to this moment, of course - suddenly jumps his bones like a randy barnyard animal that broke in Old McDonald's farm bottle of Viagra.
And I can totally handle insta-love. After all, it's par for the Alexa Riley Course. But the insta-love here was "insta" even for an AR book.
And that's really saying something.
I thought Drake was hot and I really liked him.
But reading about a heroine who acted like a hormone-driven 5 year old on acid was just not my jam.

4 'Cupcake' Stars!
I know this released a few weeks ago but I was reading other stuff and I couldn't find time to read this but.. again, Alexa Riley does not disappoint me with her short smutty books!
Guarding His Obsession is the story of Zoe Lewis (a computer geek, a super-funny and innocent woman who is being stalked) and Drake Hart (the sexy owner of the security company that is now protecting Zoey from said stalker and a man who is atracted to Zoey since the first moment he saw her picture).
For some reason, just looking at her picture made me feel protective of her. The thought of anything happening to her made my blood run cold.
I have to say that my fave from Riley is still Mechanic. Of course, this was cute and with an insta-love and I have no problem with that because that is what Alexa Riley always delivers ;) Drake and Zoey have good chemistry, not great but they are super-hot and funny together!
I’m taking what she’s giving me. Was it quick? Fuck yeah, but I don't care. We’ll have the rest of our lives to sink into each other, and I just fucking know, gut instinct, that she’s meant to be mine.
“I don’t know what’s normal and if everyone likes what we like. But I know that there’s nothing about you that I don’t want to taste or love. And hearing you say that you like me inside you makes me want to fuck you all over again.”
I also really enjoyed the secondary characters in Guarding His Obsession: Zoey's sister Elle and her bodyguard Pink. They do have a very sweet-funny relationship lol And it was great to have a little bit more of them at the end together with Drake and Zoey's HEA!
“She never complies that easy with me,” I hear Elle huff.
“Come home with me and I’ll comply with anything you want.”
“You’re disgusting.”
“You still wet from that kiss?”
Pink! lol He is such a caveman, but I love it!
So, my rating for Guarding His Obsession is 4 STARS because I really enjoyed this story even though I have to say it's not my favourite from Alexa Riley. But, if you have read this or anything by her please check her out if you want a quick fix of cuteness and sexy times! I totally recommend it!

Strange meets strange and become stranger together.
***3.5 Stars***
I’m not sure too many people can pick up an Alexa Riley without a little smirk on their face. Her ability to write a story that is completely unbelievable and fantastical…but you kind of wish (an incy, wincy bit) it was real. Who wouldn’t want a man that is so into you that once he sees you, there is no one else for him? A hero, that when we hear his thoughts and see his actions we can’t help but think…do men really feel this passionate, possessive and consumed when they’re in love? I’ve been married nearly 20 years and I know my hubby loves me, but if he started declaring himself like the way they do in these books, I’d either swoon or have him committed.
Guarding His Obsession is the story of a quirky heroine named Zoey who needs to hire a bodyguard because of a stalker. In walks Drake and the earth moves for the two of them. In typical Alexa Riley style, its insta-love, and no one would dare to keep them apart.
I think Zoey is borderline Aspergers. She has an inability to detect emotions in others, needs to be factual, and does not hesitate to say exactly what she's thinking, even if it hurts, shocks or surprises the listener. Drake has his own version of quirkiness in his lack of connection and communicating with people. He has very few people he can call friends, no family, and hasn’t really had a relationship before. Both Zoey and Drake are considered strange, but they really have a connection with each other. What other people find strange they both love and think cute.
One thing I do have to mention, I did at times feel a little uncomfortable. Zoey, at first, comes across as “special” and her sister Elle, her care provider. In reality, Elle is Zoey’s personal assistant and Zoey is a workaholic. As the story progressed it was easy to see that Zoey is extremely intelligent and her brain works super fast and just a little differently.
While Guarding His Obsession is not a deep or profound story, it is steamy. You can’t help but be drawn into the lusty tale and abandon all belief in reality. I liked it and definitely smirked, blushed and laughed.

Alexa Riley does it again!!! Another amazingly sweet and hot piece of gulty pleasure at your service, ladies! ;)
I loved every second of it and can't wait what those two ladies have in store for us next. I've read almost every book from these two talented authors and I have to be honest, their writing style is unique and hot as hell! Not to mention the characters, especially the sexy alpha ones. So, it's no wonder that whenever I hear about their new upcoming story, I add it immediately to my list of books that are simply a must read. And the best part is that I know for sure the story won't disappoint me. All I can say is, I'm definitely a fan! And if you're not one yet, believe me, one read and you will be! ;)

It took me almost two months to finish this book.

The hero was a little better but not much.
When I hate the main two characters and find the secondary characters more fun, then for me it's the book that stinks!!

That’s it! I’m cutting my heart out of my chest, marinating it in my melted panties, sprinkling it with my fantasies, and sending it to Alexa Riley because they sure as fuck know how to treat me right.
What I liked:
This is the awkward, socially inept girl novella of my soul. God, Zoey is fucking adorable and she gives me a lady boner. I’m obsessed with this ridiculously quirky girl to the point where I want to lock her up in a glass display case and when life gets hard I’d like to take her out and hug her until her ribs crack. I want to wear her skin, I loved her THAT much.
And there is Drake. I’m not saying I’d climb that piece of hulking man meat like a tree, but if my vagina had a spirit animal – it’d be a squirrel. The man is shy and socially inept in his own right but he comes with massive muscles and tattoos and he’s obsessed with Zoey to the point of distraction.
This book was incredibly sweet. It has A LOT of hot as fuck sex. And it features two totally ridiculous people completely into each other.
This book also features three of my favorite things: tattoos, cupcakes and orgasms. And it’s all wrapped up in pretty, pretty, dirty words floating on rivers of cum towards the sweetest HEA from Alexa Riley yet. So get to it, lovelies.
What I didn’t like:

Zoey didn't have a filter whatsoever...anything that poped in her mind she just said it, no matter what!!!She was kind of a sexy nerd with glasses and her cute vocabulary.... I just loved her!!!!

It was insta-super-hyper-love or how to fall in love with each other in one day. One look, one touch and it was on. And don't get me wrong, I knew that when I started it, but it was a completely new level.
It started really well. Zoey is a computer geek and generally a little freak. Her sister hired for her live-in bodyguard, because she has a stalker. And so in her life appeared Drake Hart, who smashes his way into her world in one minute.
From the very beginning I liked heroine of the book. She's a weirdo, it was cute and adorable. I love her sassy, and say directly what you think attitude. It was funny as hell. I had a smile on my face all the time when she opened her mouth. What better, the hero found himself in this perfectly. They created together a good pair, funny and charming. I certainly couldn't dislike Drake, his possessive way, is what we like most about our heroes. I also enjoy secondary characters. And hot moments are just as hot as ever with the author, and also without much taboo.
But this time it's all turned out to be too little. I'm beginning to think that the authors fall in suspense stores. Because that what supposed to be tension and action, it was a bit boring and not very convincing. I have to admit that the behavior of the characters after longer period was a little less fun and more annoying too.
So in the end I had mixed feelings. Just this one won't be my favorite, like many others these authors. But I suddenly found myself as one of their fans, and I love these short stories. You can always count on something steaming and filthy and quick. Check it yourself, because what is more important, these stories are for one evening so you have nothing to lose, except a little bit of fun that awaits you during their books.

Guarding His Obsession is a short and sweet read, with over the top instalove and provides a whole lot of fun. Alexa Riley delivers a story that will put a smile on your face and give you wet knickers in equal measure.
When Drake Hart is tasked with becoming Zoey Lewis's bodyguard and finding out who is stalking her, he gets way more than he expects when the gorgeous cupcake with sexy curves and no filter whatsoever takes over his body and soul in one go.
Completely OTT and unrealistic, but a great book to escape into.

Drake and Zoey are two very odd people coming together. Though it's not confirmed, it's safe to assume that Zoey has Aspergers or mild Autism based on her personality. My son has it so the textbook signs are all there. I get the quirkiness and when it wasn't blown up and disproportionate, it had its moments. With AR books, you take it with a grain of salt. You know the insta love is going to be over the top. You expect it, but for some reason, this one felt a little awkward to me. The sex was of course hot as hell with a healthy helping of dirty. There was one part though that made my eyes bulge out like in the cartoons lol (Dirty on the next level) So all in all a bunch of ridiculousness with an overly blunt heroine you want to shake part of the time and a sexy but apparently not as experienced hunk that is more than a little obsessed.

To my surprise, Guarding His Obsession isn’t really steamy. Yes, there is sex, but for what I am use to in Alexa Riley books, to me, it wasn’t a lot. With that said, I feel like she focused more on the storyline and character buildup.
Zoey’s character is very honest, she speaks her mind and doesn’t really have social cues on how to behave in public. I really like her personality, it’s cute, adorable and different. She straights up ask Drake, her bodyguard, if he will give her orgasms. How could you not laugh at that?!
Someone wants to hurt Zoey, so she hires Drake to protect her and he can only do that if she’s at his place and in his bed. The relationship between Drake and Zoey of course goes to insta-lust and insta-lust fairly quickly, but that’s why I love these books.
You also get a mini side story with Zoey’s sister and her bodyguard.
Anyhow, you will not be disappointed. Another Alexa Riley treat.

I thought this book was funny. Well the heroine was for sure. I was pretty convinced she had Asperger's and I loved her lack of filter. And her cluelessness provided for many unconventional moments. My guess is that readers will either love her or hate her.
The hero was not as colorful a character but he was super sweet.
In a book full of OTT the only thing that bugged me were the ILYs. I love insta everything. But the ILYs were too quick for even me.
If you want short, hot, zero angst and insta everything you should love this one.

Este libro es el mas ridículo, exagerado y divertido que he leído de Alexa Riley.
Ya estoy familiarizada con la forma en que desarrollan sus historias, pero en esta si que se pasaron. Los protagonistas se conocen y en su primer platica ya se estaban agasajando contra la pared, en su primera noche juntos ya se habían propuesto matrimonio. Todo súper irreal y absurdo. Pero bah no importa igual me la pase muy bien leyéndolo.
Esta historia fue perfecta para probar el READ ALOUD de la aplicación de google play . Obvio no es tan bueno como estar escuchando un audio book pero en una historia tan simple como esta, me funciono a la perfección.
Así que mientras doblaba y acomodaba una montaña de ropa que acababa de lavar, escuche la historia de Zoey y Drake. Ambos protagonistas son antisociales, raros y tiernos.
Por supuesto lo mas divertido, fueron las miradas de mi marido al verme reír y sonrojarme, sin tener idea de lo que estaba escuchando.

Fuck, Okay this was REALLLLLLLYYYY cute. Everything except for that "I love you" scene was amazing and made me absolutely love this book. I love how bold and non-bullshit she was, I love that vibe. Drake pretty much got streamrolled and he didn't seem to mind it one fucking bit.

Another sweet read by Alexa Riley. I just want to eat up every thing she writes.
I can't believe I'm going to say this though but....I actually liked Zoey better than Drake. Usually I'm all over Alexa Riley's heroes but in this case I think I felt more of a connection to Zoey. I see a lot of myself in her since I was the nerdy, glasses wearing girl in school. I just loved her quirky and funny ways. You never know what is going to come out of her mouth.
Drake just didn't seem as OTT as some of her heroes. He was still wonderful and I still adored him, he just seemed a bit more on the more reserved side of OTT lol. I also missed the whole breeding thing though we see a little of it with Elle and Pink. (Really, REALLY, want their story)
Overall, it was still a super sweet read and as always a wonderful distraction!

Revising my review and rating from 4.5 to 3 stars
Decent story, lovable MC's with the lovemaking being fantastic, hot , not repetitive or too OTT (if you get my drift).
The reason I lowered stars is because I found the heroine and her dialog annoying. I know this was intentional but I think it was a little overdone.
The other reason is due to a consistency error.
When the H & h first have sex, she says she's on the pill, yet in the end, it is said he got her pregnant the minute he first made love to her. I thought she was on the pill?
Lastly, now that I think about it, I get a little put off with the whole "I'm clean", "I'm on the pill" conversations that occur right before they go at it. I wish these issues were said earlier then to have it come out and disrupt the moment seconds before.

I don't know why I continue to review Alexa Riley's books. I freaking love them all and keep repeating myself every time I read one of her books. Not only does she write amazing stories with some hot alpha males but she releases them so bloody quickly.
I'm like a fricken addict and if I don't get my Alexa Riley fix a few times a month I will die. I actually don't even want to think about a world where she didn't have a few releases a month.
