Hace más de un cuarto de siglo que Ediciones Cátedra publicó por primera vez una edición del "Quijote" en la colección Letras Hispánicas, a cargo del profesor John Jay Allen. En 1986, el profesor Allen modificó en parte la introducción a la luz de algunos estudios que habían ido apareciendo después de la primera edición. Posteriormente el texto también fue revisado teniendo en cuenta las nuevas lecturas y enmiendas que la crítica erudita y los investigadores han ido incorporando durante los últimos años. Coincidiendo con el cuarto centenario de la publicación del "Quijote", Ediciones Cátedra, y una vez más al cuidado del profesor Allen, ofrece una edición renovada y puesta al día de la obra maestra de Cervantes.

About the author

Miguel de Cervantes y Cortinas, later Saavedra was a Spanish novelist, poet, and playwright. His novel Don Quixote is often considered his magnum opus, as well as the first modern novel.

It is assumed that Miguel de Cervantes was born in Alcalá de Henares. His father was Rodrigo de Cervantes, a surgeon of cordoban descent. Little is known of his mother Leonor de Cortinas, except that she was a native of Arganda del Rey.

In 1569, Cervantes moved to Italy, where he served as a valet to Giulio Acquaviva, a wealthy priest who was elevated to cardinal the next year. By then, Cervantes had enlisted as a soldier in a Spanish Navy infantry regiment and continued his military life until 1575, when he was captured by Algerian corsairs. He was then released on ransom from his captors by his parents and the Trinitarians, a Catholic religious order.

He subsequently returned to his family in Madrid.
In Esquivias (Province of Toledo), on 12 December 1584, he married the much younger Catalina de Salazar y Palacios (Toledo, Esquivias –, 31 October 1626), daughter of Fernando de Salazar y Vozmediano and Catalina de Palacios. Her uncle Alonso de Quesada y Salazar is said to have inspired the character of Don Quixote. During the next 20 years Cervantes led a nomadic existence, working as a purchasing agent for the Spanish Armada and as a tax collector. He suffered a bankruptcy and was imprisoned at least twice (1597 and 1602) for irregularities in his accounts. Between 1596 and 1600, he lived primarily in Seville. In 1606, Cervantes settled in Madrid, where he remained for the rest of his life.
Cervantes died in Madrid on April 23, 1616.

Dostoievski despre romanul lui Cervantes: „Cea mai amară ironie pe care a putut-o exprima omul” (Jurnalul unui scriitor).

Cum se prezintă Cavalerul Tristei Figuri pe el însuși: „Eu sînt Don Quijote, tămăduitorul nedreptăților și obidelor; aflați că rostul meu nu-i altul decît să-i ajut pe cei ce nu pot multe și să răzbun pe cei nedreptățiți, pedepsind fărădelegile”.

Așadar, Don Quijote lecuiește nefericirile și îndreaptă strîmbătățile; este toiag și mîngîiere a tuturor nefericiților. E mînat de un scop foarte nobil: a face bine tuturor și rău nimănui. Sancho spune despre cavaler: Are „un suflet de mielușel”. La sfîrșitul romanului, cineva îl numește Mîntuitor. Trimiterea la Iisus Christos este evidentă.

În Pe urmele lui Don Quijote, 1974, Valeriu Cristea scrie: eroul lui Cervantes este „parodia christică a unui dezabuzat... Prin ea, Cervantes denunță ineficacitatea ideii creștine” (p.37).

P. S. José Saramago rezumă romanul lui Cervantes în chipul următor: „Victimă a unei nebunii pur și simplu omenești sau agent al unei voințe supraomenești de schimbare, Don Quijote caută să recreeze lumea, s-o facă să renască și moare cînd înțelege că nu a fost de ajuns să se schimbe el ca să se schimbe lumea”.

🇪🇸 So, the first version of Don Quixote (1605) - of which this review is about - certainly gives the impression the story is over, although Cervantes left little doors open in the text in case the first novel did well and he felt encouraged to continue the tale. Of course, this is what happened, the second novel emerging in print in 1615. After which, Cervantes died in 1616. Just like Dumas gave the world Twenty Years After as a follow up to The Three Musketeers, Cervantes, preceding him, gave the world a Ten Years After, or something like that, and for a time the two Quixote novels existed side by side, until one day a publisher brought them together and sold Quixote as one hefty volume.

For Cervantes’s clever plot, his witty writing, his fine parody that, secretly or openly, parodied all of life, not just Quixote’s, for all the satire and humor, I give the good Cervantes a 5.

However I confess I did not do well with the style. A character had only to open their mouth and we were treated to a long spiel that went on for paragraphs and pages. No sooner was this over when either they opened their mouth again, or someone else did, and another long spiel began. And so on for 90% of the 500+ pages of the original book of Don Quixote. I thought I’d die. Surely this is the fiction with the most loquacious characters in human history.

It was even more painful for me when it was Quixote himself who began to talk, for his flamboyant, knight-errant way of speaking gave me headaches. Yes, I’m aware this way of talking was crucial to his character and his madness and the story but, have mercy! It was too much for me. I was entertained by the novel, but I’m sure I’d have been entertained more if the garrulousness had been toned down considerably. So in the category of enjoyability I must pass down a 3.

So, then a 5 in one case and a 3 in another and I come up with a 4.

I will be a man of 1606 and the original Don Quixote will be the extent of my travels with the Man of La Mancha. In truth, I did not like his pompous character so much, nor his frequent and vicious assaults on the innocent he always took to be other than they were, usually demons or black-hearted villains. On the other hand, I liked Sancho very much, truly a better and more grounded man than Quixote. He could retort with the best of them, had wit and common sense, and often stood his ground and tried to bring the Madman of La Mancha to his senses, sometimes with limited success. It was always entertaining when he had something to say.

So, then I bid adios to this man who will outlive me in his immortality. Some love him and his story, others, like me, definitely take away some good, but must ride on to other adventures and other horizons.

Un roman care se cuvine recitit cît mai des. Măcar pentru a răspunde la întrebarea dacă Don Quijote a fost un înțelept sau un nebun? Ce ziceți?

În vremea lui Cervantes, Don Quijote stîrnea hazul, era socotit un personaj care și-a pierdut mințile: „a citit zile și nopți pînă i s-au uscat creierii”. Pentru cititorii de atunci, Don Quijote era un personaj comic, burlesc. Lectura romanului îi distra copios. Contemporanii lui Cervantes rîdeau mai mult şi mai tare decât noi.

Cîteva secole mai tîrziu, portretul eroului s-a modificat radical. Miguel de Unamuno și Ortega y Gasset l-au privit pe erou ca fiind „un sfînt gotic cu angoase moderne”. Unde se află adevărul? Înclin să cred că cititorii din secolul al XVII-lea interpretau mai corect intenția autorului decît cititorii recenți. Sărmanul Don Quijote rămîne un caraghios. Dar nu neg că există capitole din care am putea deduce și imaginea de înțelept și clarvăzător propusă de Unamuno și Ortega.

Cervantes n-a văzut niciodată vreo legătură între nebunie și clarviziune. Un nebun este numai un nebun. Dacă Don Quijote „devine” înţelept (cum cred mulţi), e pentru că Alonso Quijano era deja înţelept cînd a pornit în lume.

Într-o singură privinţă înţelepciunea i-a lipsit cu desăvîrşire, insinuează Miguel de Cervantes: cînd s-a apucat să citească romane cavalereşti...

دن کیشوت یک نجیب زاده ساکن روستایی در اسپانیاست که انقدر کتاب های عاشقانه قهرمانانه و شرح نبرد قهرمانان رو خونده که دیوونه شده.
این دقیقا بلاییه که سر اونایی میاد که رمان عاشقانه زیاد میخونن :))
جلد اول از خروج قهرمان مون از خونه روستایی اش و نبرد با آسیاب های بادی شروع میشه، و تا وقتی که توی قفس چوبی به خونه اش برگردونده میشه ادامه داره. در این فاصله هم کلی با در و دیوار و گوسفند و الاغ جنگ میکنه و هربار تا حد مرگ کتک می‌خورده اما از رو نمیره.

You, my GR-Friends and Readers must be wondering what is this cheese doing at the head of the review. And I, the fictitious Kalliope, invite you to cut a slice and help yourself and savour the flavours of Manchego cheese. Buts since you can’t grab and eat the one displayed on your screen, then I suggest you take a substitute, some Edam, or Cheddar, or any other you have in your fridge, and then think and imagine that you are taking cheese from La Mancha, from the land of Don Quijote (DQ). For according to him what you imagine is what exists.

I imagine that everything I say is true, no more and no less, and I depict her (Dulcinea) in my imagination as I wish her to be in beauty and distinction. Yo imagino que todo lo que digo es así, sin que sobre ni falte nada, y píntola en mi imaginación como la deseo>/spoiler>

This would work with the cheeses also.

My father--and this is for real--, who had read DQ four times by the time he was eleven-, would tell me that when reading Cervantes’ masterwork one had to keep on the side a platter of Manchego cheese and a carafe of red wine- Tinto, and nibble and sip whenever the characters ate cheese and drank wine. I used to think this was a joke but in this last, more careful and pondering, read of DQ’s First part (1605) I am reviewing here only the First Part – often published together, the second was written much later and published in 1616, I realized that what seemed jest on his part was a literary comment with fundamental implications.

For as this novel is about the complex and fluid relationship between reality and fiction, and the dangers of fiction if you let it dominate your imagination, the best antidote is cheese. Unless you engage your body and attend to its physiological needs regularly while you read, you run the danger of dissociating from your body and of losing your wits.

So, please, help yourself now to a slice and take a sip. I keep on my side a dish because behind that spirally kalliope there is a person who feels hungry and thirsty some times. And better stick to the wine and do not dream of trying the Fierrabrás Balm, or you will regret it. As did poor Sancho.



Food has a literary role and helps in distinguishing the various literary genres from which this novel is made. For example, Pedro, the common shepherd, eats, while Grisóstomo, the literary student who placidly and harmoniously takes care of sheep, does not. And had Quijote been called Don Gigote (meaning 'meat stew'), as Dorotea once thought, maybe things would have gone easier for him. Cheese can be a good substitute for jewellery – as Sancho reports when he tells DQ of his phony meeting with Dulcinea. The practice of chivalric novels was to offer a precious stone to the messenger as a token of appreciation, but Sancho is proud that instead he got a better deal: cheese of pure sheep milk (queso ovejuno).

DQ as a model knight-errant, does not need to feed. When Sancho offers him to share his victuals, DQ elegantly refuses – he has never read in any of his chivalric novels that the knights, with the exception of attending enrapturing banquets, do bother with eating. They just are in communion with nature and the wild weeds and herbs are sufficient to nourish their souls and courage. Sancho then offers him some nuts (nuts for the nut?), but DQ, meekly insinuates that bread and sardines would be as good as the chivalric food and finally accepts Sancho’s offer without further ado. And at another point DQ acknowledges, after having lost some teeth in a fight that will make his eating much more difficult, that teeth are better than diamonds. Life in an imagined world is not always easy.



For DQ’s goals require demanding dedication. When he sees the flock of sheep that make his fantasy fly and recites one of the most memorable passages in the novel, evoking all the grand deeds of his army of heroes, there comes a point when his grandiose personalities seem to dissolve and take the shape of sheep. He needs reinforcement against the enchantments brought by the conjurers and wizards and drinks some of the Fierrabrás Balm. The reader wishes that Sancho had given him, instead, some Tinto to drink.

And it is food, and a bit of rest, what seems to calm down DQ when he enters in a more dangerous kind of madness--a sort of dissociative disorder that only happens at the beginning of the book--when DQ imagines himself to be someone else. Once he thinks he is Reinaldos de Montalbán, from Boiardo’s Orlando Innamorato, and another time he thinks he is Valdovinos (from the Carolingian Romancier of the Marchess of Mantua) and yet another time, he is convinced he is Abindarráez. That he could not be Abindarráez I knew well, because a few months ago I attended the performance of the Historia del Abencerraje y la hermosa Jarifa, and I had gone for tapas beforehand and eaten some cheese, so I was immune to the fantasies to which DQ fell. As for Valdovinos, again, had Sancho been able to show him the Valdovinos wine…. But maybe he did, for those dissociative fits do not repeat themselves.





At stake then, is DQ’s puzzle created by his broad reading Martin de Riquer, the editor of my wonderful edition, expands on this. He could not distinguish between three kinds of writing: histories or chronicles that recorded facts; ‘historical fiction’ of various forms but still based on real people; and the then pervasive ‘chivalric novel’ made out of extravagant fantasies. The origins of this confusion are partly semantic. The Spanish word Novela (novel – originating in the Italian novella) was relatively modern. For prose works longer than a novella, Spanish could not use the French Roman or Italian Romanzo because Romance was a particular kind of poem. Chronicles, fictional stories and the chivalric works all used the word Historia (both 'history' and 'novel').

DQ, as well as the Innkeeper towards the end of the novel, have been all confused with the various heroes, whether these were the Emperor Charles V, or Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, or the real Rolando defeated in Roncesvalles, or the transformed and fantastical Orlando from both Boiardo’s and Ariosto’s works. DQ is more impressed by the Knight of the Ardent Sword (chivalry work by Feliciano de Silva) than by Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid (apart from the Epic poem there were several chronicles). Similarly, the Innkeeper also thinks that Felixmarte de Hircania, who with one stroke could cut in half five giants, is much more impressive than El Gran Capitán (Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba – the Great Captain – who defeated the French in the last Italian wars).

May be it would have helped, at least with El Gran Capitán, if Sancho had been able to show both the Innkeeper and DQ (who had also expressed not to be too impressed by him) that this heroic captain was so real that he has his own cheese.



If we can conceive of this novel as a game on the borderlines between fiction and reality, representation and truth, game that Cervantes would explore even further when he took up the second part of his work, it comes as a tease to the reader how he warns the ‘author’ of the book, the fictional Cide Hamete Berengeli, not to stray from what should be his goal, and not hold back parts of the truth. The constant and deliberate presence of food in the novel, and the care to feed his characters regularly--in spite of DQ' occasional refusals--, is part of Cervantes' aim not to stray away from reality and make his fiction and his characters credible.


The best for pursuing this aim, then, is just to cut another piece of Manchego and finish the glass of Tinto.

For me Don Quixote as a novel, was about Idealism and Bravery, Enlightenment and love of books, about every reader's desire for adventure, and finally a novel for dreamers.
To be Completely frank, I am not even sure if it was the writer's intention to make me interpret all of this about his novel, but I say for the Writer its the pleasure of weaving his stories, and for the reader it's the pleasure of interpretation.
I learned from this novel, a lesson I never expected from reading it, It taught me to read with greater passion, to breath life into the books I read, to treat them as history, or as the words of a god descending upon us from the heavens, and to live among their pages, and I think that's a greater gain than any other I could have gained through reading it.
My perspective suddenly changed about everything else I am reading, I didn't know why did it all feel so alive so suddenly, why am I enjoying reading more than any time prior?
Why am I suddenly taking these novels and fantasy anecdotes as if they were real?!
This is the lesson that i learned from Don Quixote, By Chance or by design, it doesn't really matter, what matters is, i learned it, and I'll never forget it.
It's about Idealism and its constant Struggle against Reality, for me it was never about a crazy guy who went out to live a fantasy tale, doing foolish things, The Writer mentioned it many times, to make us try and think, and enter the debate of is He Crazy or is he Sane, and what is it we should figure out from all the events that are happening if he was sane? and at the same time if he was crazy?!
While it's probably the last Great Chivalry Tale of its Age, and The first Novel in history in the style that got us to where we are today, Its also by all means a Sarcastic Extravaganza, about the Exact same thing that made it so cool and interesting, and That's Chivalry novels, I love them, i read the ancient epics, with all their flaws, and at the same time, I was laughing so hard reading this, Because i know its true, i know he is funny and got a point, i know Cervantes probably dismantled Chivalry novels single handedly with His Hero Don Quixote.
This was a translation of the first part of my Arabic review and a few other smaller lines, many of my friends who i connect with in English are reading it, and i wanted to show a glimpse of What Don Quixote as a novel means to me, i might visit this back later and translate the rest, except the parts about comparisons for The different Arabic translations, and another part was just recommendations for Arabic Chivalry Epics, that i know about and own, for any lover of old chivalry Epics like myself and Don Quixote, or anyone that might be interested in seeing why they lit such fire inside his heart, to make him what might have looked as foolish, But for me it looked like Breaking Out of your Shell, Breaking out of your Hermitage of books, and going out there and living the adventure, and creating your own story.
هذه رواية عن المثالية و الشجاعة عن الثقافة و حب الكتب و توق القارئ للمغامرة و اخيرًا رواية للحالمين
لا أعلم حقًا إن كان الكاتب قصد نقل هذه الدروس التي تعلمتها من روايته أم لا و لكن للروائي متعة السرد و للقارئ متعة التأويل.
علمتني الرواية درس لم أكن أتوقعه منها ، فقد علمتني القراءة بشغف أعظم بث الحياة في الكتب التي أقراها ، معاملتها كتاريخ قراءتها كانها كلمات الرب المنزلة من السماء و أن أحيا بين صفحاتها ، و أعتقد أن هذا أعظم من أي درس آخر كان من الممكن أن أتعلمه لأن نظرتي تغيرت لكل ما أقراه فجأة لم أكن أعلم لماذا أنا أحيا فيما أقرا بهذا الشكل ؟ لماذا انا مستمتع اكثر من اي وقت مضي ؟ لماذا آخذ هذه الروايات و القصص الخيالية بهذه الجدية ؟ انه درس ثمين تعلمته من دون كيخوتي و لن أنساه .

دخلت في العديد من المناقشات منذ بداية قراءتي للرواية حيث كانت قراءة مشتركة ، و دائمًا استعين بصديقي الأستاذ أحمد ابو الفتح عندما امتلك افتراض معين و اريد التأكد من صحته و اسمحولي أن أستعير كلمات هذا الرجل فمعارفه هي الآن معارفي
هذه رواية عن المثالية و صراعها الدائم مع الواقع
لم تكن ابدًا و بأي شكل من الأشكال رواية عن رجل مجنون و لقد نوه الكاتب عن هذا في العديد من المشاهد لكي يعمل القارئ الفكر في شخصية دون كيخوتي أكثر.
السيد كيخانا الحالم يخرج للعالم بحلة جديدة و يريد ان يعيد أمجاد الفرسان المشائين و هو في أحلامه يمثل مثالية البشر و لكن تقابله العديد من العثرات في رحلته و في هذا يتمثل الواقع و صرعه دائمًا للمثالية و تحطيمها علي رؤوسنا.
أنا أري أن ما فعله السيد كيخانا كان له أفضل بكثير من الجلوس في منزله و الموت بين كتبه فقد طوع العالم و غيره ليناسب المغامرة التي يريد أن ينطلق بها فكما يقول الأستاذ أحمد أبو الفتح للشحات نصف العالم أما دون كيخوتي فله العالم كله.
الرواية تنتمي لنوع الأدب الساخر فالهدف الأولي كان صنع رواية تسخر من و تحاكي في مسارها أدب الفروسية القديم و الذي كنت محظوظ بقراءة ملحمه من ملاحمه في سيرة سيف بن ذي يزن و الاستمتاع بها بالرغم من عيوبهم الكثيرة.
و لكن مع ذلك يعتريني شعور ان الرواية نفسها تنتمي لذات الأدب الذي تسخر منه ، و لكن بحرفية عالية فهي تعتبر أول رواية حديثة أوروبية و لذلك فأنا أعتبرها أفضل ما قدم لنا أدب الفروسية ، و هي لي بمثابة رواية الوداع لنوع من الأدب كان من المتع القليلة للبشر لمئات السنين و بالرغم من أني جربت عيوب أدب الفروسية بنفسي إلا ان إختفاء هذا النوع من الأدب يصيبني بالحزن و يكسر قلبي ، لقد قتل عصر البارود الفروسية و جاء ثربانتس ليعطيها الجنازة الفخمة التي تليق بها.

موضع آخر للسخرية هو القس في الرواية فيسخر الكاتب من حكمه و نقده الإكليريكي للأعمال الأدبية و ذلك في موضعين عند حرقه لكتب دون كيخوتي و عند حكمه علي رواية الصديقان بعد ذلك.
هناك شيئًا غريب فكرت فيه و أنا أقرا و اكتشفته متأخرًا بسبب مقولة لدون كيخوتي في الرواية و هو الحادثات التي حدثت مع انها كانت معدومه التوفيق الا انها كانت عادلة و تمثل رؤية سابقة لعصرها بشكل يجعلنا لا نتوقعها عند حدوثها و سأذكر حادثتين منهم
أولًا حادثة الراعي الصغير المربوط إلي شجره و سيده يعاقبه ألم يكن ما فعله دون كيخوتي في صالح الفتي و سابق لعصره ألم يكن هذا عدوانًا و جورًا الفتي يعمل لدي سيده بنظام أقرب ما يكون من السخره و هذا يعاقبه بجلده علي جسده و يريد خصم راتبه الضئيل في هذا الزمن لم يكن لأحد آخر أن يتدخل
ثانيًا حادثة المساجين المرسلين للتجديف في سفن الملك هل طريقة نقل المساجين آدمية؟
سلسلة طويلة من البشر المقيدين بالحديد تسير عنوة و غصبًا لحيث مكان تنفيذ عقوبتهم حيث سيقضون السنين القادمة في التجديف في سفن حربية علي الأغلب لن ينجوا أيضًا من الحروب التي سيدخلوها هذه الطريقة في نقل البشر ليست آدمية بأي شكل من الأشكال و بسبب ما قاله دون كيخوتي فكرت في إمكانية أن أغلب مواقفه كانت لسبب أخلاقي سابق لهذا العصر و لكن بمواربة تامة فروايات و كتب هذا العصر كان يجب التصديق عليها من المجلس الملكي قبل ان تطبع.
ثالثًا حادثة العباد الذين يجلدوا انفسهم اتذكر ان فيكتور هيجو تحدث عن قسوة هذه الممارسات و انها لا تجلب الخير لأي أحد
موضع آخير للسخرية كان سخرية ثربانتس من أكاديمين عصره الذين يقدمون و ينهون كتبهم بالأشعار المختلفه المكتوبه خصيصًا لهم و أشعار البداية لدون كيخوتي لم يترجمها عبد الرحمن بدوي فيه نسخته.

رواية الصديقان و هي رواية قرأها أبطالنا بداخل الرواية كانت بشعة
كل الحديث عن الأخلاق و الشرف و النزاهة و الصداقة و ما إلي ذلك و التطويل فيه لأنك لا ترتكز علي فلسفة رصينة لتقول ما تريد بأقل الكلمات هذا الأسلوب يذكرني بأسلوب ألكسندر دوماس في البؤساء عندما يتحدث عن نفس المواضيع الأدب تخطي هذا الأسلوب منذ زمن و أتمني أن يكمل ثربانتس الرواية بأسلوبه البسيط فسحره في بساطته و سخريته و ليس في فلسفته فهي بشعة.
التسلسل من قصة كوريدينيو لقصة دوروتيا لقصة الأسير لقصة دونيا كلارا لقصة حلاق لقصة جنود الأخوة المقدسة و جمع كل هذا في مكان واحد بهذا الشكل البديع يذكرك بحكايات ألف ليلة و ليلة و الأدب القديم عمومًا و المعتمد علي العجائبية و المصادفة.
مونولوج الأدب و الفروسية و فلسفته يمكن أن تناسب عصر ثربانتس و هو يستطيع أن يقول ما يشاء فهو كان جندي و كان أديبًا و لكنها لا تناسب عصرنا فالأدب أقوي في عصرنا و أهم و بالتنور ستنتهي كل الحروب مع اني لا أعتقد ان هذا سيحدث و لكن لو أصبح العالم مثقفًا ستنتهي كل الحروب فبالفعل نري الآن الوقفات و المسيرات الاحتجاجية لوقف الحروب من الشعب الذي بدأت حكومته بالحرب في العديد من الدول.
و أخيرًا سأتحدث عن الترجمات المتاحة لهذه الرواية و رأيي فيها بعد تجربة ثلاثة منهم و بعد محادثات طويلة مع صديق قرأهم كلهم
الترجمة الأفضل للرواية هي ترجمة عبد العزيز الأهواني و التي بسبب تعنت الرقابة في عصره لما تصدر كاملة قد نشر منها القسم الاول من الجزء الأول فقط و تمتاز الترجمة بأحسن نقل ممكن لشعر أجنبي إلي العربية و قد قرأت فصل كامل منها و كانت بديعة
تأتي ترجمة سليمان العطار في المركز الثاني و التي يجب الإشادة بها فهي ترجمة عنوانها الشغف مضي الكاتب أربع سنوات يترجم فيها الرواية لكي يحقق حلم معلمه عبد العزيز الأهواني في ترجمة الرواية كاملة و بحرفية لأول مرة لأن كل سابقتها من الترجمات لم يرقوا لهذا المستوي و مستوي ترجمة الأشعار أقل بدرجة او درجتين من عبد العزيز الأهواني و لكن ممتاز جدًا مع ذلك
و سليمان مترجم يهتم بالجودة لقد بذل من الوقت و المجهود أقصاه في ترجمة كل عمل في حياته و لذلك فترجمات سليمان العطار قليلة جدًا مقارنة بمترجمين ستجد انهم ترجموا 15 عمل في 3 سنوات
3 - رفعت عطفه لم أقرا ترجمة دكتور رفعت و لكن سألت صديق قرأها و قال لي أن ترجمات رفعت عطفه ليس رائعة مثل خالد الجبيلي و آخرون و لكن جيدة فقط
4 د.عبد الرحمن بدوي لا أريد أن أنقصه حقه أو قدره فأنا أعتقد انه كان له الأثر الأكبر في حركة الترجمة العربية فقد كان يجيد ثمان لغات يترجم عنهم امهات الكتب و لكنه للأسف كان مترجم يهتم بجودة الترجمة و لكن كان مشروعه الأهم و الأكبر أن يترجم أكبر قدر من أمهات الكتب في حياته و لكن ترجمته للأسماء دائمًا و ابدًا خاطئه إسبانية كانت ام يونانية و ستري هذا عندما تقرأ الأسماء لأول مرة بترجمة سليمان العطار و تجد انها لأول مرة تعني شيئًا و مألوفه للسمع المشكلة الأخري في ترجمته هو انه لا يحاول نقل الشعر بحرفية و لكن هوامشه كانت لها الأفضلية لأن ترجمة سليمان العطار هوامشها خاصة بالترجمة فقط.

First, an organizational note. I actually read this in parallel, in the original Spanish, and in the Penguin Classics English translation by J.M. Cohen. Anyone who is interested can follow my tortured progress through Book I at the link below:

In this review, I will attempt a coherent summary of my reaction to Book I, and in the process try to justify my two-star rating.

Let me start by saying that I really gave it my best shot. I can't think of another book that I've read as closely. Read it in Spanish AND in English. Even - to keep myself honest - tried summarizing as I went, in deathless doggerel ( QUIK QUIXOTE ). I've spent a month of my life with this book - it's been a mild obsession.

Why? Oh, I don't know. Can we ever satisfactorily explain why we choose to give ourselves over to any specific whim? I'm here, in Madrid. I'm studying Spanish at a school that's called "Don Quijote". The time just seemed right. And I had a strong feeling that it was going to be now or never.

But a coherent summary of my reaction eludes me, frankly. This book alternately amused me and bored me to tears. There are a couple of places where I laughed out loud. But mostly I just wanted it to be over. I wasn't about to quit. But it felt awfully like a penance, much of the time.

Some random observations, for which I am forced to resort to the dreaded list of bullet items:

1. The Spanish was often more fun to read than the English. Cervantes and Shakespeare were contemporaries (down to the urban legend (?) of having died on the same day). But Spanish has changed considerably less in the intervening 400 years than English. There were enough archaic words that I did feel reading the translation was a necessary check, but it was surprisingly straightforward in Spanish, and - traduttori, tradittori - one felt closer to the original story. So I definitely enjoyed that aspect of reading the book - it felt like a real confirmation that all the Spanish classes have paid off.

2. I have a good general understanding of the book's place in literary history, and so was willing to cut it some slack - that is to say, not to judge it as one would a modern novel. That said, I still can't avoid saying that I found it enormously clunky. The first couple of hundred pages were annoyingly episodic and formulaic - addled Don meets (a)windmills (b)yokels (c)sheep (d)funeral mourners - take your pick - is confused, through a hilarious misunderstanding (but see point 5 below) attacks them, gets the worst of the dustup, and ends in the ditch.

3. Things improved a little in the second half (of Book I), when some of the protagonists other than Don and Sancho start to appear on a recurring basis. But don't look for in-depth characterization, or much character development to speak of. Cervantes is no Shakespeare.
OK. Let me repeat that for the benefit of each and every one of my Spanish teachers, though I love them dearly. People - you are completely fucking delusional! CERVANTES IS NO SHAKESPEARE. When you make this comparison, you just make me want to resort to actual physical violence. I've read Shakespeare and, dudes, CERVANTES IS NO FUCKING SHAKESPEARE. There's more subtlety, insight, and depth of understanding of human nature in almost any single Shakespeare play (OK, "Titus Andronicus" is a little weird, but there are still over thirty to choose from) than in this entire first volume. Not to mention a superabundance of the most gorgeous language, though - to be fair - I can't quite fairly judge Cervantes on this score.

4. When the plot isn't being all episodic, it's not really any great shakes either. Mick is altogether too heavy-handed with the AMAZING COINCIDENCE method of plot resolution. Man, you wouldn't believe who all happens to mosey on by the same remote Manchegan inn, just in time to tie up a dangling plot thread. I dunno. It all seems more than a little -- lazy.
Though I guess (and I feel like I'm really bending over backwards to give Mick the benefit of the doubt here - why is that - in retroactive justification of the time I invested reading this damned book?) maybe I'm applying modern criteria and expectations here. It's not as if all of Shakespeare's plots were entirely plausible either.

5. Humor. Ah, yes. One of literature's great comic masterpieces. Well, excuse me, if I fail to climb on this particular bandwagon. I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. Let's be quite clear - the humor, such as it is, is almost exclusively slapstick of the broadest kind. If you like watching circus clowns do pratfalls, or if your dream television weekend is a Three Stooges marathon, then maybe you´ll laugh like a drain. But if you don't really find slapstick all that hilarious, or take vicarious pleasure in taunting and jeering at a deranged person, you will, as I was, wonder what all the fuss is about. (Yes: I acknowledge that there is some wit in the book's initial premise - a person addled by too much book-reading. But lemme tellya, it gets old awful quick. It really does).
One goodreads reviewer tells us, with no apparent irony, that this is the funniest book he has ever read in his life. A statement that can only be literally true if he is a shut-in with no access to a library.

6. And on the subject of those ratings by other goodreads reviewers. De gustibus non disputandum est (i.e. diff'rent strokes..) etc. But really, folks, I'm having a hard time swallowing it. An average rating of 4.69? 102 5-star ratings?
Might it not be possible, just faintly possible, that we have a slight case of what one might call "classic intimidation" going on? The (perhaps unconscious) fear that people may think less of one for not appreciating one of the world's designated literary classics? Did all these apparently rabid Quixote enthusiasts - and how can I put this delicately - ACTUALLY READ THE WHOLE BOOK? All of it, without cheating? All those pastoral poems by the love-besotted shepherds? The entire soporific "Tale of Foolish Curiosity". The limited empirical data available suggests that maybe close attention was not paid - a mere 9.9% of respondents chose the correct answer to the goodreads quiz question about the "fulling hammers".
Just sayin'. I has my doubts.

7. Because, here's the thing. Large swaths of this book are intrinsically unreadable. No, I mean it. You read a page. Your eyes glaze over. You try it again. Same phenomenon. Cycle and repeat.
I humbly submit that the stuff in which Cervantes is engaged in direct spoofing of the knight-errant genre - all the stuff about Amadis of Gaul, the Don's argument with the Canon, the priest's adjudication of the various volumes in the Don's library, not to mention the interminable pastoral interludes with lovelorn shepherds and damsels dressed as shepherdesses could be considered interesting only by the most desperate of graduate students in need of a dissertation topic. For anyone not engaged in abstruse academic investigation it's a freaking snoozefest.

Did I enjoy "Don Quixote, Book I"? Only very sporadically. Do I consider it one of the world's great books? Absolutely not. Will I read Book II? Oddly enough, probably yes.

But not this trip. And probably not this year. Let the Don lie slumbering back home in La Mancha. Myself, I hope to travel to Chile in July, and Argentina in August. I think that other, more appealing, opportunities will arise to extend my knowledge of literature in Spanish.

So there you have it. Sorry. I told you that I probably wouldn't manage an entirely coherent review.

What can I add to the volumes that have already been written about this book, which some people consider the first ‘modern’ novel? Not a lot, to be honest, so let’s suffice it to say I found it very funny, quietly sad and more than a little meandering.

I’m glad I’ve finally read this. I’ve been meaning to get around to it since I saw the spoof of it on Danger Mouse when I was still in school, lo, oh so many years ago! Crumbs, DM!

Η ιστορία του βιβλίου νομίζω είναι λίγο πολύ γνωστή σε όλους...
Ένας μεσήλικας ιδαλγός χάνει τα λογικά του διαβάζοντας συνεχώς ιπποτικά μυθιστορήματα και αποφασίζει πως πρέπει και ο ίδιος να δράσει ως ιππότης προστατεύοντας με το σπαθί του και το δόρυ του τους αδύναμους, τους φτωχούς και τις όμορφες δεσποσύνες.

Ο Θερβάντες λοιπόν μέσα από την ζωή και τις περιπέτειες αυτού του ανθρωπάκου, αποδομεί και σατιρίζει τα ιπποτικά μυθιστορήματα που μάλλον ήταν ευρέως διαδεδομένα εκείνη την εποχή.
Ο Δον Κιχώτης μπλέκει σε διάφορες περιπέτειες, γνωρίζει διάφορους ανθρώπους και ανοίγει κωμικοτραγικούς διαλόγους με τον αφελή φίλο του Σάντσο Πάντσα.

Δεν μπορώ να πω πως με ενθουσίασε το βιβλίο...
Μάλλον θα έλεγα πως αρκετές φορές βαρέθηκα με τις κάπως αφελείς απόψεις του συγγραφέα και τις παρατεταμένες εγκιβωτισμένες ιστοριούλες του. Για μένα το βιβλίο έχει μια κάποια ιστορική αξία αλλά σίγουρα πια δεν μπορεί να με ιντριγκάρει σαν αναγνώστη. Καταρχάς δεν με ενδιαφέρει η σάτιρα πάνω σε ένα είδος λογοτεχνίας που έχει εξαφανιστεί εδώ και χρόνια. Ίσως στην εποχή του να φαινότανε αστείο, αλλά δεν μπορώ να το ξέρω...
Η γραφή του Θερβάντες είναι βαρετή. Γεμάτη αναφορές, λάθη, λογοπαίγνια που μαζί με την κάπως περίεργη μετάφραση των "Γραμμάτων" το βιβλίο ώρες ώρες καταντούσε ανυπόφορο...

Σίγουρα υπήρχαν και οι καλές στιγμές μέσα σε αυτόν τον πρώτο τόμο. Κάποιες περιπέτειες του Δον Κιχώτη μου άρεσαν αρκετά και μπορώ να πω ότι ήταν διασκεδαστικές. Αλλά δυστυχώς ο δεύτερος τόμος δεν με τραβάει...

Και κάτι τελευταίο...
Παρόλο που το βιβλίο φιγουράρει στην κορυφή τον παγκοσμίων λογοτεχνικών δημιουργιών θα έλεγα πως δεν έχει τον οικουμενικό χαρακτήρα των Ομηρικών επών, των έργων του Βιργιλίου και του Δάντη και έτσι χάνει το ειδικό βάρος που θα ήθελε να έχει.

¡Cuantas cosas me ha dado esta primera parte de la historia!

Momentos de risa, de meditación y hasta momentos de tristeza. No miento si digo que mientras leía el final sentía que me iba a reventar el pecho de pura ternura hacia Don Quijote.

Puede sonar a invento o locura pero es la verdad. Cuando estaba en 3er grado de primaria tuve un accidente, el porton del garage de mi casa me cayo encima, despues de tener un yeso en una de mis piernas (no recuerdo bien cual) por casi un año completo, tuve que asistir a fisioterapia. un dia mi mama llego a la casa y puso en mis manos un ejemplar de una ediccion que dio el gobierno de mi pais de Don Quijote de la Mancha, con sus dos partes y un prologo de José Saramago excelente, y me dijo que era uno de las mas grandes obras de la literatura, yo, inocente del mundo de la lectura lo tome y me fui a mis terapias en la pierna, desde ese dia mis terapias dejaron de ser aburridas y la gente me empezo a mirar raro porque un niño tan pequeño preferia leerl este libro que jugar con su GameBoy y se olvidaba de todo el mundo a su alrededor cuando lo hacia. Con las aventuras de Don Quijote y Sancho Panza mis terapias dejaron de ser unas torturas y se hicieron mas entretenidas, es un libro excelente y con unas historias muy emocionantes y enredos divertidos. Claro me costo un poco, para no decir mucho, leerlo siendo yo tan pequeño asi que esta en la lista para una merecida Relectura.

Negalėčiau paaiškinti kodėl, bet seniai nešiojausi įsivaizdavimą, esą šį romaną kada nors perskaitysiu kaži kaip esmingai: imsiu ir suprasiu iš esmės :) Gal taip atrodė, nes mokyklos laikais skaičiau sutrumpintą versiją ir man labai patiko? Vėliau, 2015-aisiais, tėvų namuose atsiverčiau pirmąją dalį ir susidomėjęs skaičiau, bet sugrįžęs į Vilnių romaną numečiau.

Neseniai pagavau save galvojant, kad mano naujas kūrybinis sumanymas pasąmoningai gali būti susijęs su Don Kichotu, todėl būtų sveika romaną perskaityti. Taigi ėmiausi „Išmoningojo bajoro Don Kichoto Lamančiečio“.

Kadangi nesu pajėgus apie Don Kichotą pasakyti ką nors naujo, tai pasidalinsiu keliomis mintimis, kurios liko nuo perskaitymo praėjus kelioms savaitėms:

1) Nėra lengva visa širdimi įsijausti į keturių šimtų metų senumo tekstą. Tie patys teksto elementai ir blaškė, ir įtraukė. Pavyzdžiui, didaktiškas tonas, išlendantis ne tik dialoguose, arba pompastiškas personažų kalba. Kartais tai trukdė pajusti personažų savitumą, bet kartu tai lyg senovės reliktas, leidžiantis įsivaizduoti Servanteso laikų pasaulį.

Beje, sudėtinga skaityti ir dėl to, kad nuolat reikia žiūrėti vertėjo paaiškinimus.

Šiaip ar taip, romane buvo ne viena istorija, per kurią pajutau skaitymo džiaugsmą.

2) Nustebino grubios Servanteso klaidos. Pavyzdžiui, viename puslapyje Sančas Pancas netenka savo asilo, o jau kitame puslapyje sėda ant jo ir nujoja paskui šeimininką. Sančo Panco žmonos vardas romane pasikeičia tris kartus: Chuana, Teresa, Marija.

Kaip suprantu iš lietuvių vertėjo Valdo Petrausko pastabų, Servantesas neturėjo redaktoriaus. Gal tai viena iš priežasčių. Apie kitą galimą klaidų priežastį kalba profesorius Ilan Stavans savo kursuose „The Novel that Invented Modernity“. Jis pasakojo, esą rašytojas Sančo Panco personažą sukūrė jau gerokai įsirašęs, todėl galbūt keitė kai kuriuos savo romano elementus.

Užbėgdamas už akių pasakysiu, kad antrojoje dalyje Servantesas gražiai sužaidžia su šitomis klaidomis.

3) Sunku suvokti, kaip Servantesas parašė tokį modernų kūrinį, kai aplink jį panašių pavyzdžių nebuvo. Juk tai 1605-ieji. Romano struktūra ir Servanteso naudojamos technikos tiesiog stulbina. Pavydžiui: jeigu rėminimo technika (istorija istorijoje) jau buvo panaudota „Tūkstantis ir vienoje naktyje“, tai visiškai neįtikėtina, kaip Servantesas sugalvojo sukurti nepatikimą pasakotoją - žmogų, kuris išvertė arabų istoriko tekstą ir perpasakojo Don Kichoto istoriją, kaip galima įtarti, šiek tiek ją pakeisdamas.

Jau nekalbant apie Servanteso sukurtus personažus. Įprastai tų laikų personažai atspindėdavo kokį nors šaržuotą žmogaus tipą, idėją ar vertybę, o Servantesas sukūrė netikėtai gyvus personažus.

4) Kaip jau minėjau, perskaityti romaną nebuvo labai lengva. Reikėjo ir prisiversti. Bet. Nors Don Kichoto jokiu būdu nepavadinčiau savo mėgstamiausia knyga, bet jau antra savaitė, kai galvoju apie Liūdnojo Vaizdo Riterį :) Romanas tikrai turi kažką nenusakomo ir skaitytojas nelieka abejingas.

Δεν νομίζω πως χρειάζεται να δικαιολογήσω τα 5 αστεράκια εδώ. Ο Δον Κιχώτης είναι το μεγαλύτερο αριστούργημα της παγκόσμιας λογοτεχνίας, για μένα, και απόλαυσα την δεύτερη (μετά από πολλά χρόνια) ανάγνωση, όπως και την πρώτη φορά.

Šis romanas ne tik tuometinės Ispanijos istorijos, politikos, kultūros ir t.t. enciklopedija, bet ir nuostabi istorija apie draugystę, meilę, iliuzijas, gerumą ir žiaurumą. Ir dar ši knyga yra apie tikėjimo svarbą žmogaus gyvenime ir apie tai, kas atsitinka, kai žmogus jį praranda.

چیزی که توی این کتاب بیشتر از همه چیز برام جالب بود، ترجمهْ محمد قاضی و مهارت و پشتکار خارق‌العاده‌ش توی برگردوندن اصطلاحات و ضرب‌المثل‌ها بود.
اما راجع به خود رمان، به اندازه‌ای که ازش تعریف می‌کنن wow نبود و فکر می‌کنم توی زمانهْ خودش یه اثر بدیع به حساب می‌اومده. به هر حال، از اینکه براش وقت گذاشتم پشیمون نیستم و اتفاقاً، با اینکه خیلی طول کشید، موقع خوندنش خیلی هم بهم خوش گذشت؛ ولی فکر نکنم سراغ جلد دومش برم.

O capodoperă care te fascinează încă de la primele pagini citite. O minune de roman ce te poartă de-a lungul întregii lecturi într-o lume fascinantă de aventuri, cu cele mai "discernatoare" maxime/proverbe ale celor mai cunoscute personaje cheie din literatura universală: Don Quijote de La Mancha și al său scutier, Sancho Panza.

Chiar dacă-i știm cu toții povestea lui Don Quijote (citită pe scurt în copilarie sau văzută într-un desen animat), fascinantă este starea de bună dispoziție și timpul de calitate pe care le câștigi la finalul lecturii acestui roman compus din două părți/volume.

Motivul alegerii acestei lecturii, în această vară, a fost unul categoric de admirație și profundă recunoaștere a valorii de capodoperă a acestui roman, dublat de plăcuta vizită a orașului în care s-a născut Miguel de Cervantes, Alcala de Henares, acum 4 ani în urmă. Am fost impresionată de tot ceea ce am văzut și trăit pe parcursul celor 7 zile pentrecute pe meleagurile lui Don Quijote.

دن‌ کیشوت بهترین شغل دنیا را دارد؛ سرگردانی و در جهانی خودخواسته زندگی می‌کند که با خیال‌هایش ساخته. دیگران تلاش می‌کنند تا او را از این وضعیت نجات دهند؛ اما دن کیشوت نمی‌خواهد نجات پیدا کند. می‌خواهد پهلوان افسرده سیمایی باشد که لگن را کلاهخود می‌پندارد و گمان می‌کند که آن‌چنان قدرتمند است که می‌تواند بیچارگان را از بدبختی رها کند. آیا دن کیشوت خوشبخت‌ترین آدمی نیست که می‌شناسیم؟

The stars move toward an infinity not to be counted. Yet so accessible. They shift over making a space for me around the campfire as we listen to Cervantes’ narrator tell us tales nested within tales. The emergence of modern tropes. I follow the Don who will not cease to follow his life source; his imagination; his seeing the actual reality agreed upon lacking. Robed in humor there is a biting edge of honing books as the source of life. The inner life over the outer life? Breeding laughter while breeding thought.

What a reading experience! I am so glad that I now have this volume as a part of me. What I am perplexed about is that Volume 2 was written without permission by someone else and therefore a decade later Cervantes writes his; a reaction or a creative urge. Does anyone know the answer. It would help me greatly in deciding whether to go onto Volume 2.

از اون‌جایی که نمی‌دونستم دیگه کی انرژی و حوصله‌ی کافی برای خوندن جلد دوم رو پیدا می‌کنم خواستم لااقل کتاب اول رو برای خودم تموم شده اعلام کنم و یه نقطه ویرگولی در پایان این ماجراجویی به جا بذارم از خودم. دن کیشوت از اون کتاب‌هایی بود که از صرف خوندنش و آشنا شدن با جهانش خوشحالم؛ حتی اگه فاصله‌ی زیادی با توقعاتم داشت. فکر می‌کنم با یکی از بامزه‌ترین شخصیت‌های داستانی عمرم تو این کتاب آشنا شدم: سانچو پانزا. بعید می‌دونم لحن حرف زدنش هیچ‌وقت از خاطرم زدوده شه! کامو نویسنده‌ی محبوبم این اثر رو جزو قله‌های ادبیات دنیا قرار داده بود، فکر می‌کنم منظره‌ی این قله و راه‌های فرعی بالا رفتن ازش باب طبع من نبود.

I love the story, but I bought this (for £2 at a village fete!) because of Salvador Dali's many illustrations: double-page ones in colour, but even better, the stunning sketches in ink, throughout.

Frumos. Amuzant. Don Quijote ..un smintit plin de înțelepciune.

هرچی به آخر این جلد نزدیک می‌شدم داستان‌های فرعیِ گاهاً خسته‌کننده و ساده‌لوحی و به قولی بی‌عقلی‌های دن‌کیشوت بیشتر به چشم میومدن. لحن کتاب هم اوایل سفت‌وسخت و مقداری سنگین بود اما بعد روی غلتک افتادم. نسبتاً خوب اما نه درحدی که فکر می‌کردم.

Δον Κιχώτης, ένα έργο της παγκόσμιας λογοτεχνίας που πρέπει να προσπαθήσουν να το διαβάσουν όλοι! Και τονίζω το «να προσπαθήσουν» γιατί δεν είναι καθόλου εύκολο να διαβαστεί στην εποχή μας που έχουμε συνηθίσει στην τάχιστη εναλλαγή πληροφοριών, καταιγισμό εικόνων και γενικά μία «fast food» ζωής χάρις τα social media. Έτσι λοιπόν όταν πέφτει στα χέρια μας ένα βιβλίο που γράφτηκε τον 17ο αιώνα, ένα βιβλίο αργό, γεμάτο πλατειασμούς, ε θέλει ιδιαίτερη προσπάθεια για να μείνει στα χέρια μας και να μη πέσει στο κεφάλι μας, αφού μας έχει πάρει ο ύπνος…

Προσωπικά έκανα τέσσερις απόπειρες για να ολοκληρώσω τον πρώτο τόμο, αλλά νιώθω αυτή τη μικρή δικαίωση, όχι γιατί τέλειωσα το βιβλίο, αλλά διότι άξιζε! Ο «Ιππότης της θλιβερής μορφής», Δον Κιχώτης μαζί με τον συνοδοιπόρο Σάντσο, θα ξεκινήσουν την πιο αλλόκοτη περιπέτεια που έχουμε διαβάσει! Χάρις την αθωότητα και την αλλοπρόσαλλή φαντασία του Δον Κιχώτη ο οποίος δεν ανέχεται ένα «πεζό» κόσμο, θα μπλέκουν συνεχώς σε αστείες (και όχι μόνο) καταστάσεις! Ένα βιβλίο που σατιρίζει με τον πιο καυστικό τρόπο τα βιβλία της εποχής και τον «ιπποτισμό», αλλά μέσα από αυτό ο αναγνώστης θα θαυμάσει τον ήρωα μας για την ατσάλινη ακεραιότητα και τιμιότητα που τον χαρακτηρίζουν, καθώς και την ακαταμάχητη επιθυμία να βοηθήσει τους αδυνάμους.

Τα μηνύματα που κρύβονται πίσω από τις λέξεις (ιδεαλισμός, σάτιρα, φιλία, ακεραιότητα κ.α.) είναι πανίσχυρα και διαχρονικά, αρκεί κάποιος να έχει την υπομονή να τα βρει. Όποιος το πράξει, σίγουρα θα ανταμειφθεί!

خب این کتاب شرح قهرمانی‌های کمیکِ پهلوان پنبه‌ی خود قهرمان پندار ،جناب دن کیشوت به همراه اسب نحیف و سانچو مهتر بخت‌برگشته‌اش هست که بعد از خوندن کتابهای زیادی درباره پهلوان و پهلوانی ،با هدف کمک به ضعیفان و زنانی که مورد ستم قرار گرفتن! از روستای خود خارج می‌شن و بعد از از سرگذراندن انواع ماجراهای خنده‌دار به زور برای مداوا!به روستای خود برگردانده میشن!
داستان میشه گفت که شباهت‌هایی به هزارویک شب داره و خرده داستان‌های زیادی در متن داستان اصلی روایت می‌شه!
فقط خیلی از زنان بدگویی شده تو این کتاب!
تا ببینم در جلد دوم داستان به چه صورت جلو میره!
و از همه مهمتر روح جناب قاضی نازنین بخاطر این ترجمه عالی شاد! چه جایگزین‌های فارسی بی‌نظیری برای ضرب‌المثل‌های این کتاب انتخاب کردند.

Such a beautiful and hilarious novel.

It has heap loads of danger, insults, foolishness, comedy & love. It’s all stories interwoven within stories and it’s just brilliant!

I think the part I love most about this book is the affection each character has to someone else. No one person seems without direction to send their passion and receive in turn. The long scene in the Inn on the way back from Don Quixote’s isolation in the wilderness and following deception in returning home by Dorothea and company is a wonderful example of this. I found the episode in its entirety so engaging and exciting as you get to hear of masked arrivals, Don’s imaginations of giant slaying, brothers being sent out by a prodigal but loving father - only for one of them to be caught and used as a slave who then gets aided in escape by a beautiful Moor who eventually ends up at the Inn with the rest. All of this passage is so beautifully interwoven and expressed, with the odd intermittent humour of Quixote that it probably surpasses anything I’ve ever read.

I’ve seen somewhere that some readers of this book have found it ‘lacking in vivid power’ and it’s quite true. Very few parts of the first half of the book I thought expressed themselves with much brilliance, fuel for the imagination so to speak. Whether it’s to do with the writing style or the pace with which the characters move from one adventure to the next I can’t tell, perhaps a mixture of the two and some but it’s certainly lacking. The odd thing is though I didn’t feel it detracted from the elegance and power of the novel. Far from it, you soon begin to learn that anything could be cropping up around the next corner and it’s likely to be far detached from what was expected.

Very long and complex book but I'm very much looking forward to reading the 2nd part in the near future. It was brilliant.

هكذا بدأ الدكتور سليمان العطار في مقدمته بترجمة خرافية لا تقل روعة عن الرواية ، دون كيشوت هذا العمل الذي تقريباً فاق كل أعمال الأدب شهرة ، يعرفه القارئ ومن لا يقرأ ، حتي أنه أحياناً يدرسون لنا منه لمحات في المناهج ، وربما تسمع عنه في الأفلام أو من المعلقين في مباريات الكرة حينما يصفون لاعب عظيم وسئ الحظ ..
مقدمة للدكتور سليمان العطار عن الرواية لا تقل عظمة علي الإطلاق عن عظمة الرواية ، ترجمة دكتور سليمان وحواشيه لا أعلم كيف كنت سأقرأ هذه الرواية وألمس المعاني الشعرية والقوافي والجناس التي هي مرصعة به في كل سطر ، حقاً أن الترجمة لأمانة وأحياناً تفوق أهميتها العمل لأن المترجم يجهد حتي يجعلك تعرفي المعني المبتغي من وراء الكلمات التي يريدها حقاً المؤلف ..
دون كيشوت الموهوم المجنون الطموح الحالم يمثل طبقة من الرومانسيين الأرستقراطيين الذين إنتشروا في أوروبا في وقت سيطرت فيه المدرسة الرومانسية قبل ظهور الواقعية ، متأثراً بأداب الفروسية التي غبر الزمن علي فرسانها يخرج حاملاً فوق كتفيه عبأ تحقيق الأمن والعدل ورفع الظلم عن المظلومين ، أما سانشو بانثا يمثل تلك الطبقة من العوام السذج الذين يسهل خداعهم بإطماعهم في ملك زائف سيؤول لهم في النهاية .. لدرجة تجعله يصدق الكذب ويثبت حقيقة الزيف وواقعيته ..
أما عن ثربانتس فهو أديب متمكن ، مطلع ومثقف ، يدري أحوال العالم من حوله ، ويقدم لنا في روايته تعرية للواقع الذي عاش به وما ساده من إختلافات في الفكر وصراعات دينية ويمثل لها بدون حياد ، وهذا كلامه لن أوضحه وأزيد فيه عما قاله الدكتور سليمان العطار في مقدمته .. يبرع في إختيار الألفاظ ، ومتمكن جداً في وصف الأحداث لدرجة تجعلك تتخيلها وتري الأماكن مصورة أمامك حتي أنك تسمع أصوات الأشخاص ونبراتهم .. وتكمن بلاغة ثربانتس وتمكنه الشعري في العديد من الجوانب ولكن لعل أبرزها كان في هذا الرثاء الذي رثي الشاعر نفسه به في موقف الحبيبة مارثيلا ، ويتميز ثربانتس بحس فكاهي عال فنعم تلك الرواية ستجعلك تضحك حتي تدمع ، كوميديا حقيقية ليست مزيفة ليست مصطنعة ، مواقف تلقائية لا تري الإصطناع في دون كيخوتيه وتموت ضحكاً حينما تري أن شخصاً يتصرف هكذا بكل تلقائية .. وأكثر ما برع فيه ثربانتس هو تضمين رواياته العديد والعديد من القصص القصيرة والأبعاد للشخصيات وقصص لا علاقة لها بمجري الأحداث ، لدرجة تشعرك أن هذا الرجل كتب الرواية وهو في الأصل يهتم بالتسرية عن قارئه بقصص أكثر وأجمل حتي لا يمل .. حتي في عنواين الفصول وسرعة الأحداث وكثرة الفصول في مقابل قلة عدد الصفحات كان ذكي حتي يتغلب علي فطرة الإنسان في الملل والضجر .. ومن أمثلة تلك القصص التي أعنيها " لوسيندا - مارثيلا - الصفيق الفضولي - الأسير المملوك " وجميعها ليست قصص من أجل المتعة ، ولكنها تحمل العظة كل العظة وأجمل عظة في طياتها كما رأينا في قصة الصفيق الفضولي كمثال .. والتي ناقشت بشكل موسع فكرة الشك والتجسس التي تسود كل مجتمع بل كل دين وذكرتني تلك القصة بآية قرآنية عظيمة وإختصرت تلك القصة وغيرها من القصص حينما قال الله تعالي : " يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَسْأَلُوا عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ إِن تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ " أيضا برع ثربانتس في كتابة الدراما الرومانسية ولعل هذا رأيناه واضحاً وجلياً في المشهد الرباعي : " لدون فرناندو وكاردينيو ودوروتيا ولوسيندا " ، ولا يخفي عليك عزيزي القارئ أن ثربانتس من أتباع المدرسة الواقعية وأن كل تلك الرواية ربما أقامها ساخطاً وناقماً علي الرومانسيين ، فرأينا النقد اللاذع القاسي الذي ساقه ثربانتس علي لسات الكاهن القانوني مع القسيس وتهكمه علي روايات الفرسان .. وعرض ثربانتس للكثير من الأمور الإجتماعية التي دارت في هذا العهد من صراع الفقر والغني والنبلاء والأقنان وأستطاع أن يعرض لنا صورة كاملة عن المجتمع الذي ترعرع ونشأ وتأثر به في كتابته لتلك الرواية الخالدة إلي أن تقوم الساعة .
