USA Today Bestselling Author Stephanie Morris enjoys creating a story that combines a sensual energy with a captivating storyline. Sometimes her heroines have an edgier persona to them and sometimes they are of a softer essence. But all the time, her heroines are like real women, just trying to make a living and keep on going no matter what challenges life brings them. In Stephanie's opinion, there is nothing like curling up with a good book that you can't put down, and she is addicted to writing them.

I wanted to read Morris' book 'Cutting to the Chase', but it's not available on Kindle or iBooks. This book caught my eye and I bought the Kindle Edition.

So, the beginning was pretty nice. When I read ebooks, I highlight and comment on lines or confusing parts. The first part was after the "reckless night" Bayleigh had. Great lines in this book for Dane. Throughout the whole book, I was rooting for him and annoyed by everyone else.

Unfortunately, there were some places where I wish Morris would have shown us. It was the first day back to the office for Bayleigh and she knew she had a meeting with Dane. It would have been nice to read about how much he threw her off her game since she's so reserved and conservative or even how he squirmed during the meeting. Either way, it would have been nice to see this struggle. Missed opportunity!

Again, Dane's lines in the book were awesome! I loved them, but I couldn't really picture him after awhile. The description for him seemed so long ago. This might have just been me reading, but I felt like I didn't have a clear picture of him. This line, "Do you know what you do to me?" was used twice! I love this line, but there is a better way of describing this feeling.

At the beginning Bayleigh has three friends Maylea, Deidre, and Giselle. I get to chapter two and there is Lani. Who is Lani? (I think it's suppose to be Maylea and Morris changed her name during the editing phase.) I had to go back to the beginning just in case I missed something. I didn't know. Lani just decides to show up from no where. Lani turns into Lana as well in chapter 8. Also, when Bayleigh and her friends go into club Onyx Dane's name changes to Josh. I had to read and re-read everything again because I thought I missed something.

Let's talk about Bayleigh. Now, Morris describes her coming from an emotionally abusive relationship with Erwin. Also, Bayleigh blames herself and ultimately obtains low self esteem from it. Morris continues to describe that Bayleigh is smart, not much of a fashionista, did very well in school, very conservative, and reserved. This is all fine and dandy, but what else? Morris reiterates the same description over and over. She even recycles the part how bad of a relationship Bayleigh had with Erwin, but never ever goes into the details. This became annoying. It would have been nice to have been fed bread crumbs about Bayleigh and Erwin's relationship.

Bayleigh's relationship with Erwin is the part of the reason she doesn't want to be with Dane. Also, Dane is her best friend. That is the only "ammo" Morris gives her. There is a part where Dane and Bayleigh run into Erwin at the coffee shop. After a few unkind words, Bayleigh tells Dane that Erwin did a lot more to her than she told him.

Again, this was another missed opportunity! As a reader, I wanted to know these juicy details. In a way, it had been build up until this point. I'm sitting at the top of the biggest slide in the world ready to take off only to hit the ground after 2 seconds.

Overall, I love the storyline. It's a great idea, but it needs more meat. There were so many missed opportunities to this book. I love interracial romances, and I still plan to read more from this author. I love the cover! This review is honest in every way. I don't mean any disrespect at all.

This is my second series by Stephanie Morris. I am enjoying her Protectors Series so much I thought I would start this series.

I found Bailey 100% annoying. Here she takes the plunge to do something different in her life and shake things up a bit. She has the good fortune to make this experience with her best friend Dane who has only shown her true friendship and kindness.

Due to their one night together Dane wants to take the relationship to another level and become a couple with his best friend Bailey. Now we all know that a relationship stands a better chance of success if the couple are friends first and lovers next. So it was totally inconceivable to me that Bailey could not see what was right in front of her. Everyone else could see that Dane was the man for her and that loved her, except for her.
I was rooting for Dane and I thought he was incredibly patient and loving to allow Bailey to go through all her amateur dramatic before finally realizing what a special man cared about her.

Bailey: “I closed off my heart, feelings trust and faith. In the process I ended up hurting the one person who gave me everything he had and never asked anything of me in return”.

The story was all about Dane for me and not so much about Bailey.
This was the first story in the series so I am expecting great things from the rest of the series.

providing an honest review after receiving a complementary copy from the author via BookFunnel.

I did not finish this book I could not stand Bayleigh and how silly and immature she was. No one forced her to have sex with her friend (several time in one night even). Why the hell was she so shocked that he would want to discuss what had happened and that he had feelings for her.

what did she think was going to happen? hiding from him for days and not talking about things was just stupid and not being a good friend to him. She made herself a victim or her own bad choices and Dane had to suffer as well.

I did not enjoy this book I don't enjoy weak female characters who don't know what they want and can't make up there mind.

Best friends to lovers

Despite the grammatical errors, this story was everything. Bayleigh and Dane are best friends and coworkers and one night after working on a project they cross the line to lovers.

Their story has all the feels, humor, anger, sadness, happiness. I really enjoy a book where the hero is madly in love with the heroine and just has to convince her she is worthy to be loved by him.

This story was really hard to put down until i knew Bayleigh got her happy ever after with Dane. I’m hoping the next book in the series provides a look into the future of Dane and Bayleigh love life.

Reckless Drama

The book held my interest, but Bay really got on my nerves. The flip flopping was just too much to stomach. Please ease up the repeating insecurities and the lack of self respect and confidence. Bayleigh finally came to herself and went after her man.

I just finished reading One Reckless Night and like the previous reviewer, the cover drew me in. I met Stephanie Morris at the 2013 National Black Book Festival in Houston, Texas. Bayleigh Williams has a weekly dinner ritual with her three girlfriends and they talk about doing something exciting. Her friends drag it out of Bayleigh that she slept with her best male friend, Dane Holden. I don't know why but I didn't care much about Bayleigh. I found out through reading that she had very low self-esteem when it came to her love life. Like the previous reviewer wrote, her previous boyfriend, Edwin, took her through some changes. Exactly what changes I don't know. Was she physically abused? He was certainly emotionally abusive toward her. When she saw him in the restaurant she and Dane were dining at, I wanted her to deck him. I guess that's the way an emotionally abused woman might act but I was like the corner man in a boxing ring, yelling in her ear: "C'mon, Bayleigh, tell his behind off!" or "C'mon Bayleigh, men friends can be lovers, too!" She sort of served as a source of frustration to me. I, too, would've liked more backstory about what happened with her and Edwin.

I would read Ms. Morris's work again, yes I would.
