Liam O'Connor should have died at sea in 1912. Maddy Carter should have died on a plane in 2010. Sal Vikram should have died in a fire in 2026. But all three have been given a second chance - to work for an agency that no one knows exists. Its to prevent time travel destroying history . . . The end is approaching for the TimeRiders. In a final effort to prevent time travel destroying history, Liam and Maddy jump forward to 2070 to confront the enigmatic Waldstein and prove once and for all if he is friend or foe. What they discover is more shocking than anyone could have imagined and soon the TimeRiders are on one final mission - back to Biblical times to save the whole of humanity...
I live a nomadic existence with my wife Frances, and son Jacob. For now we're living in Norwich. I spent the first 10 years out of college in the music business chasing record deals and the next 12 years in the computer games business as a graphic artist and eventually a games designer. For those of you who like their computer games, here's some of the titles I've worked on: Waterworld, Evolva, The Thing, Spartan, Gates of Troy, Legion Arena Since signing up as an author with Orion, I seem to spend most of my time hunched over my laptop in various cafes and coffee bars sipping lattes, tapping keys and watching the ebb and flow of shoppers outside on the street. As I write this, I'm awaiting the launch of my next book - the sequel to , LAST LIGHT, and getting ready to find a publisher for the first book in a separate series, ELLIE QUIN. Ahead of me, lies research work for my next thriller, and also some screenplays I'm looking forward to writing. Although I'm glad to be where I am now, I do occasionally kick myself for not having succumbed to the writing bug much earlier. But then we all just muddle along through life, don't we? There's rarely a plan. -Source: http://www.scarrow.co.uk/page9.html
I was really disappointed by this book. The whole series beforehand was great, and I totally recommended them, but after The Infinity Cage I feel that the entire series has been a complete waste of time. The writing in itself is quite good, but the actual things that happened in this one I didn't like at all.
• The book dishonours Jesus. As a Christian, that would never make me like a book. It ‘quotes’ things that he ‘apparently’ says that are just modern thinking and so wrong. It portrays Jesus’ crucifixion as a terrible mistake that never should’ve happened, rather than his act of salvation to all the world. The whole Jesus thing made me cringe in disgust. IT WASN’T EVEN NECESSARY!
• The actual idea that the whole world from Jesus time until 2070 is a fun experiment for some alien peoples, and it just keeps looping over and over because we can’t get things right. Just…egh…why did that even have to be there?
The characters were okaaay, though I liked Maddy much less. The way she treats Bob and Becks as brainless animals who can’t think for themselves is so horrible. They’re just as human as she is. Liam was still great, although I couldn’t help liking him less than before just because of the actual plot he was involved in.
This book basically completely ruined the series for me. It annoys me to no end that I have spent months reading through this series only to be so disappointed by the finale. The Holy Grail stuff that started off in book three came to a very anticlimactic end finally, and I couldn’t help being annoyed. I was on edge for books to find out THAT?!
I have so many other things but this review is basically an all out rant as it is. The Infinity Cage could have been so good, but was ruined for many by the unnecessary involvement of Jesus and the scorning of many points of Christianity.
Having stuck with the Timeriders series from start to finish, now that it's over I feel a little unsatisfied. It's not that Infinity Cage is a bad read...it's just that once all the secrets were revealed and all the questions answered I just really wasn’t happy with how it played out. I'm not sure why...it just felt as though it finished with a whimper instead of a bang.
On a side and more personal note, as a man of Faith i really didn't like how Jesus Christ and in fact Christianity as a whole was portrayed in this book. I found the concept that the Christian message had been radically changed from the actual teaching of Jesus to be somewhat offensive.
Overall this was an OK book, but I wouldn't read it again

NON SPOILER review. The least adventurous instalment but narratively wise a superb conclusion to a brilliant thought provoking series
This final novel in the Timeriders series is a little disappointing in terms of maintaining an exhilarating narrative that the previous 8 books delivered. Having said that, the purpose of this final instalment was to drill a definitive message on the state of our world in ecology, religion and the nature of humanity. It does so with an aggressively preaching approach and very much directed at the the fresher minded youthful generation. In fact, at the end of the book after the end of the story, the author Alex Scarrow, writes a special message to readers inviting ...no, strike that...instructing us to offer our opinions...coaxing a certain train of thought. I noticed that Alex has been touring around schools and I thought nice tactical idea to market his books but having finished the book, I realise there is more to his touring the schools than that. I realise he is spreading the messages of the books to encourage young people to think of the world's future and what religions are about...its a commendable mission. Although I ahve to say he may be brainwashing his readers and schools that he has visited! But you know what, if I had to be brainwashed then I rather be brainwashed by Alex Scarrow! Well in all honesty I am too old to be brainwashed, I already have my own opinions which I admit are not so extreme as the authors.
So know this, the author is very aggressive with his opinion on world religion and ecology in this final novel. Its very blatant and hardly subtle so keep it in mind.
Sorry, let me get back to the book itself. Its always a joy to be alongside our familiar protagonists and the author maximises the poignancies of their epic experiences and developing maturity and relationship. Unlike many other YA series fiction, the author does not dwell on romantic slush and in fact makes realistic choices for each of our protagonist's directions. The author keeps it real with our protagonists journeys and destinies as well as emphasising love, friendship, trust and loyalty.
Its all very very subdued, though. There is a somewhat lack of dynamic to the journey's conclusion. Its one long journey of contemplation and reflection. Although there is a fair amount of tension in the air, there are is no sense of adventure here as in the previous books just a few dotted around but nothing on a significant scale. Perhaps its inevitable and deliberate but I cant help feeling it could have been injected with something more in the narrative. Nevertheless, there are several moments of brilliance, some especially taking advantage of one of the major settings...ie 2000 years in Jerusalim. Perhaps the most significant setting in the whole series to advance the authors ultimate delivery of the story's morals and message. It is quite ingenious in fact. Very very clever, I loved that...as well as a little worried where the author was taking this regards to a particular historical figure of the time.
What really satisfies me is that all the secrets are revealed, no stone was left unturned. However, it feels to me that the author was so impatient to deliver these revelations and moral messages that he did not bother to give this last instalment a more visceral finale and a dynamic reveal to all these secrets. Instead, all revelations are done in conversations. In fact the whole novel is mainly filled with conversations on basic philosophy, religion and thankfully some much needed humour. That's no bad thing by any means just be prepared for a lot of talk in this one. When I think of other popular series, I realise there is a similar pattern with how final books conclude. Ie a long desolate journey of contemplation.
The concept all through the narrative is powerful and in fact deliberately depressing. The revelations are suitably satisfying for the series. They dont quite knock me for six but it pleases me that the revelations serve a purpose in moral and a means to have younger readers thinking and perhaps encourage them to make a difference in the world's troublesome direction and for that I absolutely commend and recommend this series to be enjoyed by everyone.
As I have only just finished the book a few hours ago, time will tell how much this series will leave a mark on me but I have been a fan, owning all the collector's editions. This final instalment, despite all of my criticisms, justfies my collection. Its a satisfyingly thought provoking and moral conclusion to a wonderfully exciting and heart pounding scifi series. I highly enjoyed the journey.
For the whole series, this gets a 9.5/10 from me. For this book 9 final instalment, I'll give it 7.5/10
its depressing to see that the last book in this looong series, the one where the main mystery we've been waiting for gets revealed, also gets two stars. so yeah, i feel like i wasted however many months of my precious time on this series ... if anything, this should be a lesson for my future where i just plain don't read mid books. this book was so mid, the main reveal was so underwhelming and also didn't make much sense. like, that's what i waited this long for? also this series is just so WHITE in so many aspects ... it doesn't treat the non white characters it has well at all like i'm actually speechless. also baffled by how christian it got suddenly ??? (but also in away that offended hardcore christians too??) just such a mess
whatever, sal deserved sm better and that's all i'll say now
also the little i listened of the audiobook was so physically painful bc i couldn't handle the two characters i appreciated be ruined by the absolutely racist and criminal accents the narrator chose aaarghhh
itna trauma diya hai yaar ye series ne (don't even get me started on the criminal usage of indian and made up indian slang from the pen of this painfully white author i had to endure) why do i do this to myself
The last and final book in the series. I read the book in one day. After 300 pages there was still no hint how the story would end and I was near the edge of diappointment. But the last 100 pages have been most satisfying. There is even the possibility to return to the main characters one day.
Until then there is enough stuff to think about.
What a great time travel series with a worthy final!!
2021 52 Book Challenge - 23) An ending that surprises you
Sooooooo. The entire point of this book was to completely invalidate every other book in the series. Great. That totally doesn't make reading them feel like a massive waste of time.
Character wise, Maddy is just intolerable through the entire book. She treats Bob and Becks as if they're lesser than dirt when really the two of them have shown more character growth in one book than Maddy has over the entire series. In regards to Becks and standing up to Maddy, I've been waiting for it for ages. Bob had the same conversation with Liam in a previous book and it went down so well and Becks has the same conversation with Maddy and she basically blows Becks off. Becks deserved better in this book than being stuck with Maddy.
Liam is much better as a character, though he does have some questionable comments that make you want to wince. The unfortunate part with Liam is that his entire plot in this book was so bad. It was a massive bash-on-Jesus and religion in general. I'm not religious in the slightest but it made me feel uncomfortable to read.
Rashin dies by eating a tin of chocolate pudding. I'm not even joking. It came out of nowhere and just happens. I didn't really like Rashim as a character, but hey, they finally started elaborating on him in this book (Maddy admits that she thought he was lying about how important he was in the future and that was why she could use him as a dog's body in London. Wow. What a great friend) so it was a little bit of a disappointment that he died out of nowhere.
The plot was really boring. If you like the Hobbit, you'd probably like some of this book because most of it consisted of walking around the desolate US in 2070 and first century Jerusalem. For being the final book in the series, I think I'd been expecting something more, especially for the fact that I guessed most of the ending by page 50. I literally cannot describe how much I hate the "humanity was an alien science experiment" and how the entire book ends on a cliffhanger as Liam is bid to do better by said aliens, because if he doesn't, they'll destroy all human life. The mystery that has been driving this series was resolved with a whimper and the author literally just had to explain it because it was so bland. And the whole Pandora message essentially is pointless because the author implies that Maddy abandons Liam to go and find Adam. Also, I would have liked to have seen Becks go back to raise Charley, if indeed she didn't join back up with Liam and Bob, if only to show that she hadn't made her first and only lie, and to exemplify the emotional growth that she'd made over the series.
This was just such a disappointing ending to such a cleverly written series.

Time Riders is one of my favorite series OF ALL TIME. It's rare that I love a series as much as this one. It's nine books long, and got more incredible with every book. I was constantly surprised while reading. It's an incredibly well-thought out and researched sci-fi time travel series, and those of you who follow what I read know how much I love a great time travel story! Everything tied up perfectly at the end, which is a MUST for a fantastic time travel book. I got chills when the loop of time was figured out. It's like a puzzle, where you can't see the entire picture until the final piece is put into place -- but you know that every piece in the picture has a place and purpose that was planned ahead of time.
I'm constantly amazed by Alex Scarrow's research. In each book there's a main period in history the characters travel back to, and it's so well-researched that it felt like I was right there, time traveling with them.
I'm sad that this series ended, but happy to have read a series that will always be one of my favorites, that I'll never forget. It ended perfectly. I even cried while reading the acknowledgments. Alex Scarrow is awesome for encouraging his readers to write fan fiction to continue on the series however they want! Fan fiction is how I got started writing myself, so reading that was touching on a personal level.
3.5 stars. To be honest, I'm disappointed with Liam's way to write new history. I was expecting something more - what, neutral? This way, it contains too much christian 'truth'. Not wrong - am a christian myself - but for such big issue, I think it needs better conclusion. And Waldstein's end was also an anticlimax; or is it meant to be a loose end, to be elaborate in the next sequel series? Rashim's end, btw, was simply dumb. If anything, I think Scarrow needs to make stronger characters. His characters were good, but at some point dubiously act outside his/her character. The solid team decribed on first books was unnecessarily deteriorating as the story unravelled, while they were facing hard situations together. Of all three, only Liam has constant, clear character since the beginning. And the girls should have no less character than boys. Different way of thinking is good, but should be no weaker, nasty and undecided. Just doesn't make sense to me. Anyway, iwas quite a ride. This series was nicely planned from the start, and creatively elaborated until end. I like the way the story developed, the twists and turns, mostly.

Astoundingly satisfying conclusion to what has become one of my favourite series. No whisper of a cop out here. Author faces the deep underlying themes of the story head-on, and does a brilliant job of tying up the various time travel conundrums and loose ends. The characters that we've grown to know and love are on top form here, and it is compelling to watch them deal with mind-blowing revelations akin to what was dropped on them in City of Shadows.
All in all, TimeRiders has been a wonderful series, that not only satisfied my thirst for time-travelling sci-fi shenanigans, but provided a cast of wonderfully developed and memorable characters, and a whole host of entertaining adventures in a variety of vividly realised historical settings.
After completing the TimeRiders series, it has forever occupied a place in my heart. Truly, it could defeat a well known series too. It has a left a mark on the way I think. I read the entire series tagged along with Maddy, Liam and Sal. It was such a wonderful adventure, the way they thought and how the mysteries unfolded themselves. I won't forget Rashim, Adam, Bob, Becks, Computer Bob anddddd Sponge Bubba! They were incredible, humourous and supportive... I highly recommend this series.
I also love that the author, Alex Scarrow knew how the ending was going to be well before writing the first chapter of the first book.
I have adored this series and reaching the conclusion of its ninth and final novel was a painful business - I will miss it enormously. You can tell Alex Scarrow mapped out the complicated plots and ending at the very beginning. It means that the end is not only satisfying, pulling everything together, but it also honours the spirit of the all the books that went before - no mean feat!
Nine books later, and it's over. It's sad. But I'm satisfied.
(This book: TWD feel, sad sad sad, gritt, half an hour left - how will it end?? and when it was all over, the author's note with the interesting thoughts from Alex's mind. The perfect end touch.)
I was not aware that on my first read of this series, I missed so much detail. In this glorious finale (let's not count the unfinished 10th book) we get to know all the secrets. What Pandora means, why Waldstein wants to help the world end and why the Timeriders were created.
It blows my mind to think that this ending was written before Liam, Maddy and Sal ever appeared in the first novel.
This series honestly should have won awards at the very least, in my eyes it's a modern classic. I am confident I'll never love characters as much as these. I am going to re-read these books over and over, because I have grown so fond of these characters, I'd hate to leave them behind.
Last one of the series and to be fair it was a good ending but I was a bit disappointed at the same time. I loved the build up to it and the chapters I liked the best were the year 2070 with Maddy and Becks but once the alien "caretakers" came into it my interest did drop. I do like to think that Maddy would return to be with Liam and Bob and let's face it, it's open ended so there could be room for more but I think Alex Scarrow wants us to make our own ending for this so there probably wont be more. A great series but overall I loved the first half more than the second half!

Wow! Incredible series by Alex Scarrow. The storyline is excellently devised, with revelations worked out so well, so subtly woven within the story, and yet it makes so much sense when the author actually exposes it. Still, these revelations can be so mindblowing that it takes a while for the reader to play catch-up. It left me reeling and wanting for more. And it was just the same with the ending of this journey with Maddy, Liam and Sal. Amazing. I've loved being taken along for the ride.
A good ending to a good series. I'd love to say I'll come back to it someday, but I'm not making any promises - after all, it does have 9 installments. But honestly, that's the only reason why I'd hesitate.
Overall, I just enjoyed every book, and I got so, so much from it (honestly, it made me feel a little queasy at times, with the author's depiction of the future. I feel like if everyone read this, they'd be a little more inclined to solve some of our planet's problems lol) and I'm really sad to be leaving Liam, Maddy, Bob and Becks. But also glad, because I got to read this series. Go figure.
Admit that I have mix feelings, loosing good friends and coming to end and wonder how it will be.... Author knows what he does, that's for sure.
Even his message at the end of book shows that he has clear vision and plan for the story to go on in each of us :)
This book is not fully packed with action, not anymore, there is no need for it. Last who are here need to dig deeper and check what's inside them and then make decision. Hardest in their life.
Liked that book and series had a message all the way through and that it's very clear what could happen and how it can change everyone. As well how preventing it can move you to world where is all going to an doomed end... Without any spoilers it was great read and I wish there are more stories :)
I've been so torn all the way through this book... I'd been desperate to finally get those answers, but didn't want the series to be over. I feel that all questions have been answered (unless I'm forgetting about any - as there was many!)
It's apparent how good an author Alex Scarrow is when you figure out this is the ending he's always had planned. The story line was mapped out from the very beginning.
I'm positive I'll be thinking about these books for years to come, and I'll definitely come back to the series at some point.
After really enjoying this series, I was very disappointed with this final instalment. It's shorter than the other books and suffers from the lack of Sal and Adam. It's also just a bit dull compared to some of the others. I don't like Rashim's end, which was rather sudden and disappointingly unemotional. And I don't like the religious tones to it either.
I feel really quite flat and let down now, which is not how I expected to feel after investing a lot of time and affection in the TimeRiders team over the last few years. I didn't hate the last book, and it did hold my attention all the way through... but just... overall, it's quite blah.

An ending I wouldnt have guessed but with many questions and loopholes and I didnt really like the way he got science (and history) wrong here and there even though it is a story about changing history. Anyway the containment field the aliens set up proves that time travel is possible without chaos space since it created chaos space hence they could still time travel, they just need to discover another way. Another problem with that is they travelled beyond the containment field to the time of the dinosaurs and that journey still had chaos space. It was a good try at a time travel book but there were just too many gaping loopholes
I guess I was always more interested in the time-travelling adventures of the series, less so in the mysteries of Pandora and not at all in the post-apocalyptic landscape of 2070. This last book was all about these things I did not love, as well as a lot of wrapping up and explaining, which was... meh. Interesting series overall, though, with maybe 5 or 6 great books.
