Woody Allen

Noted American actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker Woody Allen, originally Allen Stewart Konigsberg explored the neuroses of the urban middle class in comedies of manners, such as Annie Hall (1977) and Deconstructing Harry (1997).

This director, jazz musician, and playwright thrice won Academy Award. His large body of work mixes satire, wit and humor in the most respected and prolific cerebral style in the modern era. Allen directs also in the majority of his movies. For inspiration, Allen draws heavily on literature, philosophy, psychology, Judaism, European cinema, and city of New York, where he lives.

This might sound unpopular, but it was one of the best plays I’ve ever read! “Death” play offers a compelling narrative that intertwines the inevitability of death with the essence of human experience. Most dialogues and characters are relatable. It invites readers to reflect on life's fragility and the importance of each moment passing by. Think about it this way. Don’t let the moment pass, cause the life slips by and then it’s over. It’s not gonna take too much time, go for it right now!

One of my favorite of Allen's works.
The story revolves around a maniacal killer at large and Kleinman is caught between conflicting factions with plans on how to catch him. Kleinman, a logical man in a mad world, is indecisive and insecure; he doesn't want to get involved but everyone is after him to make a choice.
Filled with laughs, somber questions about life and death the author as is his trade marks to remind everyone that not only should his stories not be taken so seriously, but more importantly if you spend too long taking life too seriously you miss out on life.

not on the page but maybe in the theater. It is not a bad play but it really is one long running joke, sort of just goes on and on. Could be a little more developed and the supporting characters could have more depth. I can go with a one joke ridden hard but I would expect more from Allen, this is an early play so it is not a big deal.

Definitely Woody Allen humor here. Lots of philosophical questions laced in the dialogue. Probably worth a read whether or not you're an Allen fan.

A one-acter written for The New Yorker and subsequently published in 'Without Feathers' before receiving a separate script release by Samuel French - the piece had a bit of a life in community theatre in the '80s, during Allen's great heyday. But really it's an excuse for one-liners and meta-theatrics.
