Valérie Rouzeau is my favourite French poet. Her language is original and her style always renews it, she writes like a child with a vision of a seer. Each poem is profoundly moving yet is also playing with words. Susan Wicks is the perfect translator for her and has done a magnificent job, conveying the freshness and vivacity of the French. Rouzeau is the best introduction to contemporary French poetry.

One of my favourite books of poety. I think (I hope) Wicks' translations do Rouzeau's syntactic play justice. Beautiful and mournful poems about the death of a father, combined with exquisite images, and tightly executed language.
